    What a great little side tip you gave around 9:06 - "Always put these back in by hand. Don't try to put them by a socket, you can cross thread. If you don't feel it with your hands you won't know what you're doing so put them in by hand, turn them by hand, go as far as you can"

    A friend reported that her 2012 CLS550 with 90,000 miles on it started to display the "Check Engine Light". She said she experienced no other symptoms. The Mercedes dealership said she needed to: REPLACE ALL CAMSHAFT SENSORS ALL CAM MAGNETS ALL O2 SENSORS ALL INJECTORS (CHECK ENGINE) at a cost of $7,220. Also, the dealership wanted to REPLACE ENGINE WIRING HARNESS (CHECK ENGINE) for a cost of $6,075, REPLACE ME CONTROL UNIT (CHECK ENGINE LIGHT) for $1,175.00, and 3.00HRS TO REMOVE SPARK PLUGS AND INSPECT PISTONS FOR OIL INCURSION . (CHECK ENGINE). A paltry $489.69.
    But wait, there's more. Much, much more. As an added bonus she gets a complimentary car wash, vacuum, and tire shine. Such a deal.

    Hello from Cancun, excellent video!
    I have a doubt, did you actually replace the parts? Because it seems like you clean both parts, replace the O-Rings and gasket and put them back.
    If you did that, when you do that and when you need to replace the hole parts?

    Did you perform the relearn procedure for the camshaft position sensor? I saw some videos for other vehicles where they used an expensive scanner to do the relearn. Do we need to do this relearn for an ML350 2011? The reason I am asking is because I took out the 2 camshaft position sensors and rotated the crankshaft to 305 degrees and found the 2 circles centered perfectly. However, I still got the dreaded P0017 code after I replaced all 4 sensors i.e., 2 new Bosch camshaft position sensors and 2 new Mercedes camshaft adjuster magnets on the passenger side. I don't know what is the issue that is causing the code to remain. Is there a possibility that one of the new sensors is not working?

    I know this video been out for a while, but I caught at 7:04, you said it really bothered you that they did not put the bolt back in. Someone may have pointed that out, but I did not read all 438 comments. You took that bolt out when you did the first sensor removal (which was the bolt you were referring to being missing). Great video.

    The video was well done. Thanks for sharing your knowledge. I however would like to clarify some information.
    The item you replaced is not called a gasket, it’s called an “O” ring. And “O” ring you replaced on what you called the magnet sensor is incorrect, it’s a VVT solenoid (variable valve timing solenoid). It controls the oil control valve.

    Hello , nice troubleshooting. I have an 03 ML500 . Did the oil change and this time oil filter got pinched and oil leaked all over towards the passenger side soaking the front of the engine. Fixed the “o” ring problem , cleaned engine,, started it , all good . But a 15 minutes drive , parked it . Engine off . 10 minutes later engine won’t start. It cranks in lot more RPM. After half hour engine cooled bit more and first attempt it started drove home , towards the 15 minute drive got the check engine light. Put my scanner code 0340 I believe, reset check engine ran an hour rat idle truck did not stalled. Few minutes later ran another 15 minutes and it did shut engine with check engine light. Your thoughts on this issue . Everything else works on the car . Is this sound like a shorting something when the car get hot ? Your thoughts.

    @iRepairAutos Thank you so much for this video. My 2004 c230 is leaking oil (109k miles). My mechanic says it looks like leak's coming from the camshaft magnet/sensor. He said the OEM parts alone cost about $500 each! I started to research this bc it sounded too much money for these 2 little round things! I found online these cost around $50-100/pc. Needless to say, I'm looking for 2nd/3rd opinions and info. If oil is actually leaking from these magnets (the 2 round parts), would there be accompanying parts requiring replacement that might make each one cost this much?? Also, is it possible only the seals (rings) need replacement --how could I find this out? By chance would you know of a good MB mechanic (not stealership) in the NYC area that charges reasonable labor rate? Much appreciated!

    Great Video! Need to ask a question as you seem to understand this well. I had the Check Engine light pop up on my 2006 SLK280 . A scan showed the P0015 code. It was the only code pulled up. Researching it, I found your video and saw what an easy job it was. Then, I notice the Check Engine light is now off after a few days of being on. My dilemma is should I take that as a defective sensor (for it to go on & off) and replace it anyway or am I OK and good to go? I just purchased the vehicle and had it checked prior to buying. Carfax was clean. The car only has 44K miles and the pre-purchase inspection came back good. I have less than 150 mi on it yet since I got it. Any recommendation? Thanks in advance!

      Thanks for watching! I have seen guys use oil on the 'O'-Rings. In this case, it shouldn't hurt because these o-rings are oil resistant. Some o-rings that are used in a non-oil environment may not be oil resistant and may break down because of the oil - In that scenario, silicone lubricant grease is supposedly the best for this. I am an enthusiast amateur mechanic myself ;) Thanks for watching, liking and sharing and most of all the leaving a comment.

      iRepair Autos and Don Gunasekara I've the same C203, 2005 car in Europe (Sweden) with a 1.8 motor and when reading the failure it says bank 2 which I don't know where is it. Just found one the same sensor right under the engine cover and replace it, but after I deleted the engine light, the light comes on and off most of the time. So I'm thinking that I've replaced the bank 1 sensor, because I don't know where it's the bank 2 location. Any tips!!

    Hi there, have been your subscriber for a while. That was the first video, I've seen on youtube while trying to resolve the rattle noise issue on my w211 (m273 - 2007 model). Can you pls answer my question: My car has slightly noticeable rattle noise for about 5 seconds once engine started. What I've noticed, that it happens once car left for sometime but mostly on cold engine. I do guess the problem might be with oil insufficiency in a drip pan and when I run the car after leaving it for sometime drip pan gets some kind of emptied, so first 5 seconds there's no oil coming to the engine. (have to mention that there's no oil leakage on the engine).
    However, its still my personal assumption...Could you pls guide me, what could be a possible reason of the problem?
    Thank you in advance.

      Check your oil level, it might be low. Also what grade of oil are you using? You should be using synthetic oil. Check your manual for the correct grade.

    What was your car doing? what were the symptoms?
    My car started by having problems to start. Check engine came on and codes pointed position sensors a and b? (or bank a and b or something like that) Yesterday a replaced the 4 CPS and it continues with the same problem. Before the position sensors i also replaced the Crankshaft position sensor, the fuel relay and spark plugs. Now im thinking the magnets could be the problem?

    • @iRepairAutos
      @iRepairAutos  7 лет назад

      No Symptoms at first. Just the dreaded check engine light with the same codes. As the sprocket continued to get worse I would occasionally have an engine misfire at highway speeds. Requiring me to pull over and turn off the engine and restart to be on my way again. The engine began to not have as much power, coupled with the check engine light and more frequent misfires. What's the year make and model of your car? Also shoot me a quick email with your vin number. I will look it up to see if your engine is one of the ones with the balance shaft sprocket issue; My email is keith.joi@gmail.com

      iRepair Autos so, get rid of this car is what you're saying?

    • @iRepairAutos
      @iRepairAutos  7 лет назад

      I'm not saying that at all. You have to make sure that the problem is truly the balance shaft. Let's say that it is the balance shaft... Your options vary depending on the miles on the vehicle. Mercedes will fix the problem with no cost to you if the vehicle is under don't quote me on this (verify with Mercedes) 120k miles... Please verify with Mercedes. I
      If you are over the miles for the free repairs then weigh your options on how much it will cost to get it repaired vs how much a new car will cost you.
      Many people trade in their car once they find out that they truly have this issue.
      This job is a big one requiring the engine to be taken out of the car. Its a pain. Then you have to pull the motor apart and get the timing and everything correct when putting it back together. I wouldn't recommend you doing this job by yourself

    Hi I’ve got code P0016
    Status: Confirmed
    Possible decryptions (note control module):
    OBDII: Crankshaft position/camshaft position, bank 1 sensor A
    Changed the magnets but keep getting engine light for that code bank 1 sensor A.
    I even put the crankshaft on 305 degrees and looked trough the sensor holes and saw the circles are in center so I’m hoping my crankshaft it’s not off timing. My next thing is switching the sensors from bank 1 to bank 2 if I get same reading it’s not the sensors.. wish I did it before when I change the magnets it’s really hard to get the bank 2 the screws are behind the power steering pump. You showing the easy access site 😅 I had to unscrew the power steering reservoir and prime it risking to crack the plastic which holds in the pin but didn’t want to drain the power-steering fluid and remove it. Also need flat star E8 wrench to get behind especially the last 2 lower screws ..
    Could that be just bad sensor A?

    • @iRepairAutos
      @iRepairAutos  7 месяцев назад

      Yes, a malfunctioning camshaft position sensor (CMP) can lead to various symptoms in a vehicle. Some common signs of a faulty camshaft position sensor include:
      1. Engine Misfires: If the sensor is not providing accurate timing information to the engine control unit (ECU), it can cause misfires, which may result in rough idling, hesitation, or stumbling during acceleration.
      2. Difficulty Starting: A failing camshaft position sensor can lead to issues with starting the engine, including extended cranking times or the engine not starting at all.
      3. Decreased Fuel Efficiency: Incorrect timing information from the camshaft position sensor can lead to inefficient fuel combustion, resulting in decreased fuel efficiency.
      4. Stalling: In some cases, a malfunctioning camshaft position sensor can cause the engine to stall unexpectedly, especially during idle or low-speed driving.
      5. Check Engine Light: A faulty camshaft position sensor often triggers the check engine light to illuminate on the dashboard. Retrieving the trouble codes using an OBD-II scanner can help diagnose the issue further.
