Hi everyone. Great reading your comments. Thanks to all those that appreciate the build and for those that don't - you are entitled to your opinion anyway. It is my car and many of you are right - the Leadfoot hillclimb is not what the car is best suited to, and these runs were all on tyres that were 10+ years old as we were just going to have fun. We put new tyres on for 2018 but did not get any video from outside. On a proper track the car will only get to 280kph (yes I have had it there) because none of the tracks here will support much more speed, so that is what we geared it to do. Search RUclips for 'F40 nz' for some more video from when we use to run on the circuits. The car was built from 1997-2002 as a project because I always loved the F40 shape and enjoy building cars. The Lexus was chosen because it is a strong engine and we knew we could get good power out of it. It has a Quaife 6 speed sequential with paddle shift that is the weak link in the car, and that stops us putting the 1000hp that someone has suggested. It is only running 15lb of boost and would take 20, so the 1000hp is very achievable. It has no ABS or power steering but does have traction control. I'm happy to answer questions on this post, but please remember NZ is 12 hours different to Europe time so I may be asleep when you post. Cheers. Steve

I think the only reason it doesn't sound right is the fact that it doesn't have a flat-plane crank , which gives Ferrari V8's their very distinct sound. I'm curious what the donor was because it's proportions are almost just right aside from the the wheel stance.

I've yet to see anything more oddballl than this and I love it to pieces. It sounds so mean.~♡
Indeed it has a nice rasp to to it
The way all Ferraris should sound! Great build!
Replica or not that is very very cool and unique
What a totally awesome badass build!! The motor sounds out of this world incredible!!
Makes a lot of sense, I think. The engine's more reliable than Ferrari, and although it doesn't sound quite right, the LM look probably throws most casual observers off. Personally, I'd have painted it one of the race team colour schemes, but again, it looks the prototype/racer part. Very clever!
I think the only reason it doesn't sound right is the fact that it doesn't have a flat-plane crank , which gives Ferrari V8's their very distinct sound. I'm curious what the donor was because it's proportions are almost just right aside from the the wheel stance.
@@josephgraham1590 The chassis and body are custom built, one-off! I can only imagine how much it all cost, but still cheaper than a genuine F40.
Oh man I remember reading all about this car and following / checking in on the build on some long forgotten forum all the time. Feels like decades ago now. Glad to see its still around.
I thought it is true Ferrari F40,in this case swapping it for UZ engine would've been blasphemous and owner deserved a death on bonfire. But its replica that runs as good as original if not better so its great.
+Fr0ggy Than what would you think about Rene Ruch and his Zytek V8 engined Ferrari F355 Challenge? He decided to get rid of original engine and replace it with Zytek 4.0 V8 since it's more powerful than F355's engine.
@@hillclimbracingfan5821 was it possible to install forced induction kit on Ferrari engine? If no,it would've made sense since ferrari engines don't have high tuning potential.
@@fr0ggy220 Speedhunters did a cover of this car and talked with driver. Here's the link where everything's explained:www.speedhunters.com/2014/08/ferrari-f355-built-climb/
Damn... that is one proper build... dream sound and dream looks... congratulations
*THANK GOD!* a V8 that isn't an LS...
I love that this isnt a weird looking replica over some economy car, its accurate to the original this actually took skill and craftsmanship to build
JDM V8 in a F40 replica? mmm, not bad :)
I think this car is Dope, capable, and very well thought out; excellent work!! 👌
At least you didnt put in a 2jz or anything. nice job
As a owner of a V8 Lexus and a lover of F40...this is perfect:)
its a damn good replica. couldve told me it was real aside from the sound.
Great work man!!! Hats off to you!
" Steve Cox´s Ferrari F40 Silhouette"
To me, this is the spirit of hillclimb events - the most amazing cars built by a bloke in a shed, and driven to their limit on a twisty piece of public road that's been closed for the event.
Wish my SC 400 went like this
It can if ya slap 2 big ol turbos on it lmao. I love SC400s btw but there always maintained like ass n the leather is chewed up like no tomorrow. Still beautiful cars tp this day tho and reliable
@@Grimm-Gaming Mine is cloth and owned it 18 years. Totally stock but if i had the spare coin i think i would give it a birthday and a couple of turbos!
@@Scotty70 Nice. I have a 2004 Scion xB and 1992 SW20 Mr2 Turbo .... And a boring 2007 Chevrolet Impala.
@@Grimm-Gaming Im in Australia so had to do a quick google on the Scion and 17 Impala! Mr 2 turbo very cool.
They would be getting close to collectable in Australia these days.
Pity Toyota didnt replace it but good news for you !
love the GR8TOY plate, good spirit here!
Really impressed by the fact it's a replica build, awesome work forever beyond my reach - respect!
One thing is for sure, this replica will smoke an original f40 with the original motor on this same course.
It did by about 5 seconds, and the course is 58 seconds for me...
Impressive.....not many replicas perform as good as they look........... Bravo...👏👏👏👏👏
When you go with Toyota cuz Ferrari is too unreliable. Lol jk sick build
I'm actually contemplating getting a honda v6 in a Toyota mr2 for reliability.
And affordability, turbo Toyota v6s would be expensive, and unreliable in comparison. Honda J35 with a turbo. I just am looking for criticism and opinions.
Props to the builders you guy's did a very cool looking replica that is fast and driveable. Don't mind the haters because their are a lot of keyboard warriors talking the talk but most haven't built a bicycle so they have no idea how many times you have to bust your knuckles and all the work and sacrifice that goes into a project car like this one.
Gt40, Ford engine into a Lola body....
I'm loving that power to weight ratio. The braking and acceleration are endless joy.
Please write "REPLICA" for first in the title...or someone can kill you 🤣
We´re fairly confident people will just appreciate the car for what it is. A cool Monster ;)
@@HillClimbMonsters Don't act like you don't know what you're doing. You're bad and you should feel bad.
You couldnt afford the replica panels alone mate. Read the description.
@@raisinade Please elaborate.
@@HillClimbMonsters You knew it would make people rage, thinking a beautiful Ferrari was defaced. It was literally the worst thing you could have done to anyone, ever. Literally.
Epic, how can some not appreciate the quality of this build. Only thing I was going to say is that it sounds like your tyres are knackered, how ever I can see you addressed that below, I took my widebody rex on track with old tyres, never again.
Toyota = Better quality of a engine
hah
Better than Ferrari? HAHAHA
Not to bag on Ferrari, they make great performance engines but,@@erasmopantano400, how many Ferrari's with a million miles on the engine are there?
Yeah Nissan and Toyota make the best engine in the world, performance engine that can last until 1.000.000km
Quality yes but Ferrari engines are much more funny and sound mostly better:)
Fuck thats incredible!!! Well done amazing job
I'm not sure how to feel about this one....F40 with a Lexus engine?
Issa replica
@@marcobrancorsini2479 oh, I read the title too fast lol my bad
at least we know that engin won't break down unlike a real ferrari lol
@@kmann4343 *sigh* seriously?
@@marcobrancorsini2479 relax dude just kidding and i know it's a replica
What a beauty both in looks and sound. Great build!
If you know nothing about the car, and came in blindly off of the internet... why make a fool of yourself and comment? The internet is the ONE sure fire place I’ve always seen grown ass men & women act like toddlers. Smfh.
Killer build, I’m very inspired to mod my 3uz by this!
That's a pretty cool replica, I can even imagine this with a 3.0L 11,000 rpm Twin Turbo Judd V8.
one of the best replicas i have seen
I appreciate anything that pisses off Ferrari and it's following.
And I'd like to thank Steve for bringing that out of them.
Looks amazing. Sounds awesome. Ur a lucky man to have such a great machine. Great work on building it. Health to enjoy as we say in Ireland.
Great car! Looks mad cool power slidin up the hill!
Absolutely beautiful build great job unique and functional
what I wouldnt pay for a ride along, this is pure awsomeness
I do like the wing and the car in general. Cool F40 rep now I might build one some day.
Amazing build!! I generally don't really like replicas, but this one is quite a masterpiece!
Cool replica, I love this engine sound of the Lexus
You could see the throttle bodies moving ! Very cool
he did a hell of a job to replicate it so well
