I have both these exact same watches. The OP was first, followed a year later by the sub. The Sub gets worn daily… but when I do pick up the OP and wear it, I’m reminded of how easy it is to wear and how versatile it really is. Love them both.
Hi Tony, I agree with you 100%. Love my Sub, but I finally got the call from my AD for my green dial OP36! It has not left my wrist for the last two weeks. So happy to finally own it. Waited 15 months for it and it was well worth the wait. Perfect everyday watch, I absolutely love it. And that dial, wow, nicest green dial I've ever seen - it is Rolex green. My AD told me it was the first green dial OP36 they've received in two years. Cheers :)
I gotta agree, both are iconic, classy, comfortable. However, if I could only have one, it would be the OP in 36mm or 41mm, - the aesthetics, the gentle curves, shapes and dimensions on the wrist and eye just tip it for me.
@@talkingtimepieceswithtony I have just bought a 2023 OP yesterday from a jewelers in Belfast , cannot wait to get it, it’s coming to me next week , Blue Dial, it looks amazing 👌👌👌
Which watch do you find to be more comfortable on the wrist? I would imagine having the easy glide on the sub would make it better comfort wise - since you can dial it in better ?
Hey Tony, awesome channel! You need a drummer at any point in time let me know haha 🥁 But look i need some advice, gonna get the call for a 36mm silver dial OP with the gold markers and hands, took a few years but I wanted a time only dressy rolex to go with my blue Tudor BB58 for a 2 watch collection but ive been eyeing a 36mm explorer what you reckon is more special and dressy?
The dial on the OP 41 looks massive, would only consider this watch in a 36, same goes for a day date, datejust or explorer. I have 7 3/4" wrists. do not like the maxi cased subs nearly as much as the pre maxis.
With a wrist size 7" or above the 41mm would be the one to go for IMHO, but you shouId try one on if you can. I have 6 3/4" wrist and am waiting for the OP41. They don't wear big but you make a good point on the dial, compared to the datejust 41mm my AD was keen on selling me (for £2-3k extra!) the OP appears a much bigger dial the bezel is thinner/narrower by around 1.5mm and the dial is bigger by around 3mm difference on the diameter but on the wrist it looks much bigger and also better.
I have a Sub “Smurf” just not a daily, use my Z-blue Milgauss for that because simple three hand is so much easier to wind and go with no Sub or GMT complications, in the market for the OP just not sure on size 36 or 41, that’s a lot of dial on the wrist for 41mm, thanks for the info!
I'm not sure how this would even be a debate. I'm curious to hear a concise argument for anyone who would prefer an OP to a Sub assuming the wrist size is appropriate for a Sub. Obviously there's a rather significant difference in price, but assuming money isn't an issue here, it's an easy choice. Then again having multiple watches is the key! Just remove that equation altogether!
@@Anthony-bc2cw you can't debate someone's taste in watches. Believe it or not, some people aren't in to dive watches and would prefer a more traditional watch. There's no concise argument needed, people simply have different tastes.
I wear an OP34 (skinny wristed and prefer vintage sizing). I like that Rolex’s depth rating is to the actual depth rather than just a pressure rating. People’s boggle over depth ratings is silly. Combat divers such as SEALs usually dive at around 60ft. So unless you’re saturation diving as a commercial diver, a Sub is not needed. I have a Black Bay 58 which my OP replaced as my daily wear watch. And I do like divers as an aesthetic, but I agree that the OP is the better choice for daily wear. Mine is rarely off my wrist since getting it. Generally only for sleep and showers. My only complaint is kind of typical of most people looking at these. I paid retail at an AD because I was willing to wait. I don’t think it’s worth what it’s pulling on the secondary, but I guess those prices are not up to me. I don’t buy watches to flip.
Great video! I’ve really been wanting to add a no date watch to the collection and I keep going back and forth between a no date sub, or the OP41 silver dial. Already have a 126613ln so not sure if adding the no date sub is too much overlap in the collection but that’s kind of the one I can’t stop thinking about.. 😂
I would like both too,the perfect collection,i think the op is more confortable to wear for every day but i love the sub,i am in damned waiting list for an oyster perpetual 41mm black,i sell mu op 34mm for buying the op,so for now i dont have anymore rolex...but i survive to this horrible situation, just hope they call me soon, the ad speak about 8 month waiting...sick
I like yourself own both the 126040 and the green OP41.Great minds think alike lol. In terms of aesthetics I agree with you the sub is more versatile but the weight, fit, and comfortability makes the OP41 the better option for me!
I’m more a Seadweller guy and wish the OP was a bit more substantial, but …. Seeing those two together was Awsome! 😎 I got emotional when you said they were icons 😂
Both awesome timepieces .they are absolutely versatile and can be used as a daily . It’s a hard choice since I am such a lover of blue anyway the sub would be my every day choice .
the blue DJ - looks a wee bit larger, very legible .I have a date /sub - the true ROLEX ICON ( imo ) both are wonderful . that particular DJ model is the one Biden wears, and I still like it. I do not have a DJ , would really like a DD - but.... ~ live well ~ JDS/CT
My man, 2 absolutely perfect watches. That sub is beautiful but I think I agree that the OP might be just a tad more versatile. Dressed up, the blue might have just a bit more pop. And the sub is probably the most iconic, well-known watch in the world. This is a great idea for a video 🤙🤙
I second that opinion. The op is the dressier of the two options and is more versatile day to day. It also has 100m of water resistance so you can use it as a true sports watch just like a submariner and you could take it swimming in the ocean or even snorkeling as you won’t be anywhere close to 100m. Submariner is of course an amazing watch as well. Not really a wrong choice
For now it´s the OP 41(blue) for me, maybe because i bought it just a couple months ago. Actually we got them only days apart, i got mine on the 23 november 2022. Still love my Omega Planet Ocean Chrono, and absolutely adore my Ball Engineer III Bronze with the beautifull green dial, but i must admit that they got less and less wrist time :) Maybe it will change til summer?, or maybe that is when i find the need for a GMT master II to make my life complete🙊 Have you ever looked at Ball Watch Company?, i have owned a couple of them and they make really great watches. Bang for bucks. Keep up the good work✌
Tony 2 Beautiful watches !! Cant go wrong with either. But for me The Sub ( no Date ) is the King of Cool !! That being said. I would love a Silver dial OP !! 🤙🤙
This speaks to their genius in design and their ability to create the most iconic cases of all time. Love how people complain and point out that their releases are “boring”, but if you were Rolex why would you change anything??? Demand has never been an issue and is actually a problem so what make their pieces even more desirable and harder to get and then complain some more (only throwing this is because everyone feels the need to apologize to the Omega fan boys that have p3nis envy over Rolex - we have better technology blah blah - who cares…). When you pointed the use of Mercedes’ hands it got me thinking who was the first to use and popularize thee use of the Mercedes’ hands? Absolutely brilliant move on whoever came up with that. Take one of the most existing iconic designs and make it the functional piece of the dial that moves, F’ing brilliant…
Great video and agree with your analysis 👍 If we add the Datejust 41 to the mix, do you think that could be pretty much as versatile as everyday wear as the OP (and Sub for that matter)?
I think the DJ on Oyster w/ smooth bezel would be a great everyday watch. Fluted/jubilee not as much, but you can still wear it daily if you prefer. 🤙🤙
The datejust 41 is better then the op.. the op is good watch great value.. better off buying op then omega.. on sub prefer the 2tone subs or full gold 🎉
Out of those two it has to be the OP although I prefer the Explorer or Air King to both. The Sub is just too much of a Vajazzle. Too ostentatious and I always think someone is over compensating for something when they wear the sub or especially the Daytona.
I would go op. I have the DJ and would love if it came with brushed oyster bracelet instead of polished center links. Great video once again and a wonderful 2 watch combo.
Hey Tony, as you mentioned Omega Fanboys……. Have you noticed how similar the Spectre symbol (in Bond movies) is to the Omega logo? Coincidence? I think not 😈
I have the same OP but in 39mm. Just love the Simple clean looking design. Like you said, you can wear it every day. It fits in pretty much every situation.
