A big thumbs up for such a thorough and comprehensive review - you’re the 1st to highlight a lot of subtle differences. I can’t believe my luck - picked up a 114060 last year and a 124060 last month - both from different UK AD’s with whom I had no previous purchase history 🙂🍀
Agreed. The amount of detail that went into the comparison was mind blowing. It has got me spotting those nuances on my 116613. And congrats to your new watch too. Cheers.
Hi, did they try to put you off by saying without purchase history you have no chance? I went to the rolex boutique on bond Street and they said they could take my details but I would have zero chance, they couldn't wait to get me out the door so I didn't bother. Went to watches of switzerland, they took my details but said they would get a warning if they sold me a sub without a purchase history, they will let me know if the policy changes! And another David M Robinson, I emailed to enquire about the process and they never got back to me. So, I'm not holding my breath. They implied that of I buy something else in rolex then I would stand a better chance but there was no guarantee. I asked if they had the had the new tiffany op, they said there is a waitlist. 2 branches of WoS tried to push the datejust 41mm just because they have it. I asked if I could try any sub to see the fit, one guy said he has a gold in the back, went to get it but then came back saying they don't have it (changed thier mind).
amazing. have watched dozens and dozens of vids on this watch and this is the only one that's so technical. love it, well done and well researched sir! thanks for this. a very refreshing vid.
Really great review. I agree with all of your points. I think that people who are new to Rolex could love the blocky supercase Sub. I get that. But many people, like me, that have owned 4 digit and 5 digit references for decades saw the supercase as too far of a departure and a "mistake". I am absolutely loving the new Sub (I have the ND on my wrist). It seems like the new Sub is the proper evolution and update to 5 digit reference. So many little changes add up to a much more elegant design while still retaining the positive improvements that were made with the SubC. Thank you Rolex!
If you guys ever get your hands on a 5512/5513 or any other vintage Sub, it would be great if you add their measurements to your Sub measuring guide and/or maybe do another video and include them.
This is the best comparison out there. 9 watches to compare! Only wish you mentioned which is your favourite. I am debating between the 124060 and 126610LV. Tough choice but at least I can't go wrong.
This is excellent💯. I love the attention to minutiae, these tiny differences only us watch geeks truly appreciate 😜. To me the Sub41 is the best of both worlds. You get the nice lines of the 5 digit models but retain the upgrades you get with modern pieces, i.e. solid links, fully milled out clasp, ceramic bezel, higher power reserve, better shock resistance and antimagnetism. You now even get AR treatment under the crystal. I didn't like the supercase either, I'm glad they killed it. This was my deal breaker for the TT Bluesy. Now finally I was able to indulge in the new 126613lb. Not everything was improved with the Sub41 though. The new clasp is unnecessarily enlarged. Also, the 3235 movement is noisier, but most importantly it seems less accurate than the 3135, judging from my own watches. My new Sub41 is already at - 2s/d after 4 months and my SD43 is at - 5s/d after 3 years. My older YM40 116622 has flawlessly been ticking at +1.5 s/d on average for the past 6 years, sometimes even less, closer to 0 s/d if I self regulate with the resting position.
I still found that the 14060M is the best design piece. The 2020 model is better than the first ceramic bezel supercase one, but still to bulky and not as beautiful as the 14060M
I prefer the maxi case subs. And this chaps over enthusiasm for the newer case is just so obvious. Side by side, the last generation and the new watches look virtually identical and no one, but no one will ever be able to tell the difference.
This is the true definitive guide. I owned 124060 and a 116600 for 4 days. I think the narrowing of the lugs make the dial/bezel look a lot bigger than a 0.3 mm increase. The AR coating appears to be making it look bigger. I think that's what's happening
@@LongNguyen-ho9qf they’re all completely wrong. I played the game with a bunch of 8-12 yr olds who were at my house. “Which one looks bigger?” They all chose the 41mm.
@@LongNguyen-ho9qf Note that Rolex measures from 10 to 4 for the diameter. That’s why people think the thing didn’t grow a mm. They’re all measuring wrong. Admittedly only an handful of RUclipsrs seem to have measured themselves. It’s sort of hard to do. Then the masses of channels just repeated the numbers.
Another wonderful video - all questions answered! For me, I’m in the minority who love the maxi case. Hoping as the 12’s flood (ha) the market, the maxi prices drop a bit
Great video, impressive detail. Having both 116610LN and 126610LV in my collection, I do agree that the 12 is superior to 11 in most areas. It wears far better, has much better proportion, and is just overall a slightly more beautiful, better executed piece. Though in my experience, the 3135 family movement in 11(and in my older DJ) are far more accurate out the box than 3235 in 12 (and 3285 in my Pepsi). With 3135, I gain 1 second per two weeks(resting position dial up every night), while for 3235/3285 I gain up to 2 seconds per day and lost 3 second per day respectively. Unsatisfied, I took these watches to the Service Center, where they tried hard to help me, though the best achieved results for 3235/3285 were -1second every two days and -1 second every four days respectively. Not to sound picky about it, but the best results in term of accuracy are still much less impressive than the much older 3135.
Not a Rolex guy but the detail and passion in this video made it compelling for the whole 20 minutes and made me examine/appreciate my Blancpain in ways I never had before.
Videos like this is why I subscribe! Thank you so much for this amazing content! I'm on the hunt for the new 12 reference. Let's see if / when I'll be able to get one :)
Late to the game but appreciated just the same, your video review played a big part in me getting the new 126610LN and saying goodbye to old faithful Hulk. I will miss the big green guy but the new 12's just wear so much better and dare I say...'smaller'
I have owned all 3 generations over the last 30 years and now own the Sub41. The new Sub41 IS modern Sub perfection. The new Sub41 with all its changes really is significant over the 11 series Sub. FYI: the hour hand is also fatter on the Sub41. Rolex nailed the Sub41. Its gonna be extremely popular.
One thing no reviewer seems to have mentioned is how much more comfortable and balanced the new 41mm watch feels on the wrist compared to the 40mm. The reason is because the bracelet is 1mm wider and the clasp is also wider and bigger which stops the unbalanced "top heavy" feel of the 40mm that I found would "tilt" on the wrist due to the wide maxi case and very narrow, small clasp.
Great video, I love it! Congrats! I have the 116610 LN, the 116610 LV and the 126610 LV and my favourite is definitely the new green bezel Sub, Cermit, Starbucks, whatever... The new Sub wear really comfortable and looks fantastic, stunning...
There is another major difference between the 31 and 32 movements. The direction of wind to set the time. 3130: Wind clockwise to move hands clockwise 3135: Wind clockwise to move hands clockwise; wind clockwise to move date forward 3230: Wind counter-clockwise to move hands clockwise 3235: Wind counter-clockwise to move hands clockwise; wind clockwise to move date forward You may argue that it's not important, but whenever I see anyone trying to set the time on a 32 movement, they invariably start off by moving the hands in the wrong direction. That would annoy me. There are a lot of benefits to the 32 movement over the 31, and the 12 series is definitely more elegant and attractive than the 11 series, but why did they need to change the direction of the time set function?
Super show Nathan. Wonderful that you took all the measurements and size comparisons. Your excitement and enthusiasm is so amazing. Thank you and staff for the hard work. Stay healthy and safe.
great video but why would it include any sort of background music?? It's not loud but smoother without it I believe...Other than that, fantastic comprehensive..Thank you for making it!
I loved this video. I’m 3rd on the list with my AD for the two toned bluesy. I have a 5 3/4” wrist. Do you think I can handle it? Please let me know. Thanks, Lori
Thanks for the vid! 💯 May I know how we get to know the caliber parts made of what material? And is there gold in submariner caliber? Thank you in advance.
What a great video.. I truly enjoyed the real comparison between the old and new and newest.. subs.. it makes me wonder now, how does the new sub w/date compare to the sea dweller.??? After listening to your comparison I want to know your thoughts or differences on the two watches... Is the sea dweller the same as the newest sub w/date? Just larger dial & bezel? Can YOU say the sea dweller is really just a larger sub for people like me with bigger wrists... thanks again for your great video... I look forward to your response . Cheers
"The super case was a mistake" and yet we've seen time and time again in the vintage/resale market it's these 'mistakes' that fetch the highest collector interest.
This is some of the best content I have see. Great job! So correct me if I’m wrong but the new 41mm Kermit submariner would be your choice now over the pre ceramic & the Hulk even for smaller wrist like yours?
If I wanted to put a jubilee bracelet on this the new sub 41, would the jubilee of the datejust 41 be suitable? As I know, is the only jubilee in the actual catalog with 21mm width

Objective, empirical evidence on aesthetic superiority? I happen to agree with you that the new sub is visually superior to the prior ref, but I don't think it is driven by data.
The Pepsi GMT has always been called the Pepsi no matter the case or bezel material. So why would you call the Kermit anything different then a Kermit. Black dial + Green bezel = Kermit The 126610LV is the New Kermit.

I picked up a 114060 today and I love the super case! Had a 11600 SD and I loved it too! Everything has a cycle.
Opps, I meant a SD 16600.
I still found that the 14060M is the best design piece. The 2020 model is better than the first ceramic bezel supercase one, but still to bulky and not as beautiful as the 14060M
Good video. Modern sought after GMT,s have the proportions of the maxi case sub. Beauty is in the eyes of the beholder.
The supercase looks way more masculine than the older and the newer references. There, I said it.
Thank you
Yes, more masculine in the way a bodybuilder looks more masculine than a gentleman
I'm masculine enough, no need to try and compensate lack of masculinity with an ugly blocky watch.
I prefer the maxi case subs. And this chaps over enthusiasm for the newer case is just so obvious. Side by side, the last generation and the new watches look virtually identical and no one, but no one will ever be able to tell the difference.
I kinda like it. The only reason I’d go for the newer model is the new movement, but I think I could get by with the 3135.

Make vlog for the new cherry red submariner. Thanks alot!!!
So the non-removable links difference means the tapers at 6 o'clock is over 3 links and 12 o'clock over 4 links?
Of course not
Did you say the lug to lug measurements?
If I had to pick one I'd take the 5 digit sub.
bro tell me this isn't Napoleon Dynamite's brother Kip😂😂😂
Another great in depth video about the watches we all love and wish we can own. Keep the dream alive.
Very good review. However I don’t agree with the main point. A diver has to be a little bit chunky.
I believe in 4:07 you mention the easy link is it me or is it called glidelock. i believe Easy link is for the gmt ☺️
Correct - glidelock on the Sub. Easy link on non-divers like the Explorer.
Objective, empirical evidence on aesthetic superiority? I happen to agree with you that the new sub is visually superior to the prior ref, but I don't think it is driven by data.
Why does every review of the new 12 reference ignore that there is now an AR coating on the underside of the crystal?
Thank you.
What the difference between 124060 and 126610 ?
Hey trickydownunder vids,
The 124060 is the No Date and the 126610 has the date at 3:00. Thanks for watching!
The Pepsi GMT has always been called the Pepsi no matter the case or bezel material. So why would you call the Kermit anything different then a Kermit.
Black dial + Green bezel = Kermit
The 126610LV is the New Kermit.
Wow, when you put it that way, it makes 100% sense haha.
Ugh. Now I want both.
For those who bought the Sub recently, they might find that Rolex may have fixed the dip at the center post.
Fascinating. Can you point me to any forums that have mentioned this? Would love to see a pic!
@@RebirthBeyond I bought mine recently and it does not have the dip. Maybe I am just lucky.
how about the new clasp; is it bigger, smaller or the same? and if it's either bigger or smaller, then by how much?
It still is but more aesthetically like the old 5 digit subs.
The planet ocean line is chucky and the bathyscaphe a better watch overall
