I didn't like this release personally, but i enjoyed very much the fact that Orient moved to a smaller case. Nothing against the 42mm divers (i own a Kamasu II myself), but giving everyone options is a great move. Same for the Bambinos. It's also time for Orient to release some GMTs, because they have such in-house movements, as far as i known.

Love that they went with a 40mm for us with smaller wrists. Also love that they didn't add large digits to the dial and the bezel font is more subtle

I love how it looks, it´s very pretty looking in all colour variants. Orient needs to make this one in GMT version, this would be a hit!! I won´t use it to dive, so I can live without the lumed pipe, but it´s easy and cheap to fix this point, so hope they do

I loved my Kamasu when I had it but always found it a bit chunky, especially with the 22mm lug width. So I'm glad to see they downsized but I wish they had kept the same handset and indexes as the previous one. The same look as the previous generation but downsized would've been a real winner, for me.

  • @Mirel.

I've go this watch today and all I can say is it's amazing. I have a thin wrist and this mako 40 fits better than Kamasu. I don't dive and I don't need that lumi pip actually for the design it looks better as it is. The 26th second error makes it more interesting and I am happy I've got one so early until the fixed ones comes out. This actually is one of the reasons I was rushing into buying one and for only £200 of eBay.. I've changed the strap for a silicone one and it's just beautiful.

I always appreciate your honesty in your reviews. Sometimes I have to remember to put my preferences aside and realize that watch brands have to sell watches or they will not be in business very long. I would imagine Orient’s research marketing group has determined that this particular model has a likely potential to sell. I always wish every watch manufacturer success. The bracelet, lack of a lume pip and long last lume on the markers and an ISO rating would all be detractor for me personally. However I really like the way the watch looks overall when paired with a black tropic strap! Excellent review as always! 🥃

Don't rush to pick one up when it is just released since you are going to find ti closer to the actual retail price. Its the same scenario that happened with the Bambino 38mm models but now the prices have settled between $200-250 for the models currently. Just wait a few months for Orient to catch up with demand and you can easily pick these up for below $300. Definitely it won't reach the lower price range like the older Makos and Ray but definitely a great option for $200-300. I got the white (silvery) dial variant and enjoying it on a tropic strap, perfect combo for the summer.
    Again, great camera work 👏👏👏

That is a shame about the lack of lume pip. I can't even say it's an aesthetic choice, because it would really look the same either way, but more functional with the lume pip. It must have been a cost saving measure. The lack of taper on the bracelet is unfortunate, but more expensive watches make that same mistake, as mentioned. The taper on my Explorer II bracelet and even on the Seiko bracelet for my "baby Alpinist" are really defining features that take the wearing experience to the next level.

I don't think this is from the Mako line, RA-AA0818L19B is the Mako III, and this new 40 mm diver is just a generic one inspired from orient star line. Anyway, even with a few things missing (like the mentioned loom pip on the bezel, for me this is not an issue) I would say Orient is stepping up their game when it comes to design. I own the Blue Ray 2, and I always compared the Orient watches to Citroen cars. They are a bit quirky. For example the first gen Mako Ray that had a pusher for date changes, or their retro inspired calendar watches and so on. They have their own unique style that can be polarizing. You either like it or you don't. But with this new designs, that are more main stream, Orient is reaching a larger client base.
In the end they managed to make it a true Orient design missing the placement of the 26 minute marker. Modern and appealing done in a true Orient way quirky and appealing. I like it!!

I pre-ordered and got the 25% off, a total of only £260 (€300). I went for white dial as I have no watches that offer 200m in white in my collection. I have a small wrist (which is also why I've got a BB54), they are the same lug width so I've gone out a got a nice black tropic strap and a a few different coloured single pass natos. I agree the bracelet is quite poor indeed. This watch will remain on straps and will take a beating given the price.

Good choice for a first automatic?
Its either this for 450 euros or seiko models which cost 670 euros for sapphire crystal ones, other brands are unavailable here in India

Solid for a first auto. And way better than a seiko 5. In my region, both brands are expensive as well. Compared to the States prices.

I like it very much, especially the size of the case and lug width, however for the price WISE Hitman is a much better purchase.
Incredible watch in almost every aspect.

Wow. So much complaining. Personally I like the bracelets on Orients. I like that they do not taper. I prefer it. It also does not bother me at all that there is no lume pip on the bezel. So many enthusiasts complaining of «deal brakers» in the community, and I also see it in the comments of this video already. Rolling my eyes…

haha! taper is a matter of personal preference, not mandatory. in my view it would had been welcomed on this case design. to keep the same angles of the case falling towards the lugs.

The taper is such a trend rn I swear.

I agree, especially about the lume pip. This isn't an ISO certified diver, so the missing lume pip is meaningless to at least 90% of those that buy this watch. How many people that buy divers actually dive? Very few.

I think it's gorgeous. I love the design, could be an Omega or something and it looks way more expensive than it actually is. Also I love the features. It could be 600 dollars more expensive and it still would be great value.

The misaligned second markers between 25 and 30 are driving me crazy and every single one of theses seem to have this mistake. Even on the press photos. I mean sometimes little mistakes make your watch unique but its not special or unique when everyone has it

First ive seen about this, I think it looks great but that bracelet belongs in the bin. Looks great on both the rubber options you displayed.
