    This one was a bit of a shock. After the recent release of two new Mako Divers from Orient. I wasn't expecting another, let alone a smaller diver. It seems like Orient has been listening as this is exactly what many of you have been asking for. Well almost, there is one big issue that will be fixed sooner than later.

    Check Out Alton's Take on this: ruclips.net/video/1hMOmaL80jA/видео.htmlsi=imAFVNZtt4vCvTVs
    Also, Tom from Tus says that they will be sent replacement dials once produced. After that, they can forward the new dials on to those who have bought them, or they can swap the dial out for you. Still waiting to see if you can send these directly to an Orient Service center.

    It looks like they fixed the one thing I don't like about my Kamasu, even though, with an unpainted bezel insert, it wasn't really necessary. The crystal sits higher than the bezel.
    I wear my Kamasu a lot and the insert shows it because everything that touches the watch winds up damaging the paint on the insert. All the paint on the entire inside of the bezel has gone now and turned to dull aluminium.

    Note that the minute track spacing from 33-34 is also a bit too wide. 2 mistakes on the minute track. Weird. The design choice that I would change is the wide bracelet. I have a Hydroconquest, and while it is a great watch, the constant width bracelet really holds it back for me. I have been wearing it on a blue rubber strap for the past several years and I really prefer the look over that of the wide bracelet.

    I was thinking about getting this watch to use and abuse at work, as it involves truck driving and outside activity in sometimes not the most favourable conditions.
    For me the pros is the perfect size 40mm, stainless steel bezel that wont become unlegible if scratched up, no crown guards for easy manipulation of crown, and a very legible dial.
    Cons are as usual the horrible clasp, and the misprinted dial, what a disaster.

    My attitude about it is that on a watch like that, because it's not a chronometer, and not a chronograph, and it's going to be off by 3-4 minutes per month (all of my Orients - slow), seconds are purely decorative artwork anyway, and minutes are approximate. I would say they should own that fact and go ahead and hand-paint the seconds on the dial to begin with :P.

If you could make a video sharing your knowledge on use of titanium on watch and how it may fare on an expensive phone, I think that would be a great video. Just a suggestion....

    • @RelativeTime
      @RelativeTime  10 месяцев назад

      Great suggestion, I don't have a lot of extra time over the next few months, but I'll see what I can do.
      From what I remember, the wear issue with titanium isn't that is easier to scratch. It's that the oxidized surface layer takes on a slightly different color than what's just underneath it... So when the oxidized layer gets scratched (removed) it's much more obvious.
      Steel does the same thing, but the oxidized layer has a similar look so it's harder to tell.
      I read Apple is using a grade 5 titanium, which is good. As well as a brushed finish which should reduce the visibility of scratches. Although personally, I think it's a little gimmicky, the frequency that people upgrade their phones why waste titanium on that.

    And what about the 32-33 min markers? (actually it's the 33) Doesn't anyone see that they are also too close together?!

      There may be a little more of a gap there, but might be the camera angle. I'll have to take a closer look in person.

      @@Intelligence3 I think the big change was because orient wants to make the power reserve indicator and orient star exclusive.
      So that was taken out, and they removed the ISO rating on the water resistance. Plus added some more colors.
      How you enjoying it?

    • @Intelligence3
      @Intelligence3 4 месяца назад

      @@RelativeTime I really like it. I am not a huge fan of day/date on contemporary designs so I had resisted the other models and this one grabbed me. Apart from the truly-absurd endlinks I really find it well-made and there’s a nice individual character to it, the edges are rounded and “softer” than most dive watches, giving it a really comfortable everyday feel and making it wear well for the size. I like the blunted deep bezel serrations a lot and the way the bezel is matched to the slope of the case is really attractive. I have the green one and the color is marvelous. Caseback isn’t too deep, which I commonly dislike on dive watches, so it feels like it wears closer to the wrist. I’m going to try the Mako 40 next now that it’s showing up again. If you want to borrow this I’d be happy to lend it.

    This video is showing that it's two months old. Just wanted to give an update for mid December 2023, I just bought this watch with white dial direct from Orient USA and the minutes are completely symmetrical at the 20 to 25 minute markers. There is no issue on my watch, so they were able to correct it under two months since this post.
    I'm loving my watch. The size on my 6 and 1/2 inch wrist looks better that my Kamatsu does. I like it so much so that I'm considering a second in blue or black just for variety while maintaining the dimension and visual appeal of the model.
