It's a great way to finish the knot off. You just have to make sure the uni is tied in such a way that you can pull it tight toward the FG. Thanks for commenting.
I used your tutorial por fg knot my friend but i added a little change: just in the beggining of the knot, i tied the braided line to the mono line to embed it on mono...that way i found out the knot gets stronger. Thanks for awesome channel, cheers !! 🎣🎣
Nice tutorial. I use the Albright. That's really all you need. The FG is a good fishing knot I ky it from time to time but it's time-consuming as well and difficult than any other you better practice it before putting it to use and use enough half hitches to finish the knot
My man, this is much better than the original knot demonstration. This is one of three knots I use and is the only leader to braid knot I use. I will do a video of how I do it, and I will incorporate the way you wrap it. However I will trim the tag ends and tie it off the way I normally do and when its posted I will let you know and you can tell me what you think.
Okay, keep me posted on your progress. Thanks for watching and commenting. I find the part that seems to take the longest is cutting those tag ends super close.
Good videos, thx. Don't need the burn or glue. Put pressure on the knot after the lock-in. That is critical to get the braid to dig into the leader. I use my knees to push my hands apart. Once done it won't move. Trim the leader tag close then finish with 4 alternating half hitches and then the 4 turn uni and trim close. Does not get caught up in the rod guides. Hope this helps. Thx for your videos.
Hi JC. The Uni to Uni and the FG are great knots. I would replace your first knot with the improved Alberto knot. It works on the "constriction" principal like the FG and it's fairly slim and very strong. I think it's much easier to tie than the FG. Thanks, Mickey
Great idea Mickey. I've actually been practicing that Alberto knot periodically. It's going to be a fast knot to tie when I master it. Thanks for participating.
Buddy,I'm a freshwater Bass & Walleye angler;& some of those arrogant Bass guys make the FG knot so complicated on purpose.U have simplified it in a way I can wrap my head around it,so I'm truly grateful for that.Thank you!!(I have a tendency of catching big fish, too)Was that FG fish a grouper?
Yes, I would estimate about 125 lbs. There are a lot of ways to finish off the FG. I've modified the end knot tying a bit and also have started trimming the ends much closer and adding super glue to the knot.
Oh yeah, it's the perfect knot for when that big school of Spanish mackerel is plowing by and you just got broke off...Thanks for watching and commenting.
Great stuff man... Yeah the double Uni Knot is good for lighter lines at least. But if you want to go from say 30 lb braid to a heavier leader it's just not the right knot. But hey man you do a great job breaking down how to tie these knots.
Great video and knots! One little criticism, I have seen other vids with the FG knot and melting the mono, maybe ‘protect’ the braid from the lighter with your finger tips/nails. Good job, thanks 🇦🇺
Great video. I'm still not sold on the braided line. I prefer the uni to uni for making whined on leaders or sometimes a small bimini twist for heavier fish
Thanks for sharing Matt. Really the only frustrating thing about braid to me is when it gets knotted up, I almost always have to cut the line and rig up again.
Great graphics.. However I'm a trout fisherman using 6-8lb line. The Knotts are easy with the the line wt your demoing with. For failing eye sight guys I struggle also will the light line and leader I use stay together. Thanks for the video.
Your videos are awsome! I have been trying the loop knot for my jigs. When i pull the knot tight the loop part pulls to a inch long. What am I doing wrong? When you did yours your loop is just big enough to give the lure action.
I had the exact same issue when I first started tying the knot. I still will get that final loop to big sometimes and have to retie. Practice will get you there. I'm not exactly sure how I do that now other than trying to keep the entire knot tying process "small". Lubing it really good and pulling hard will shrink it some. I can pull pretty hard because I'm using eight pound leader. I hope this helps. Thanks for watching.
New subscriber .. new salt water fisherman... If I select 20 to 30 lb braid as my line do I have to use a monofilament leader for casting jigs, etc? Is that a must? You never tie directly to the braid? I'm going to purchase a 4000 series reel for inshore and surf fishing.
Knot #1 is a Surgeon's Knot which is a multi-turn overhand knot. The video shows how to tie it at 90 degrees to the main line which is good for droppers and can be paired with a blood knot to make a T-knot for a snag free dropper rig. If you tie the Surgeon's Knot using the working end of the main line (short end) and standing end of the leader (long end) by pulling this pair through the loop, the finished knot will be in-line with the main line instead of 90 degrees. Try this if you want a more streamlined knot. Trout fishermen use the Surgeon's knot for adding tippets and droppers.
I've never tried a Blood Knot. The FG is my favorite because it has the slimmest profile, but takes the longest to tie. When I tried to tie a Blood Knot I thought it was difficult.
Only knots needed for braid to FC are the FG, Alberto, gt, and uni to uni. That's it. For most hook to line I use the double pitzen or the fish n fool. That covers everything pretty much except loop knots and that one goes to the rapala knot.
I'm running low on braid, only about 60 yards left on my reel. I don't fish for marlin or any huge fish either. My question is if you would recommend me attaching 8lb mono to my 10lb braid to fill the rest of my reel spool to save money? I just don't want to spend a lot respooling the entire reel since it's so expensive. Would the knot be ok over a period of time or is it mainly just for a leader line and not for long casting. Would it work well on the spool? Would it affect the casting? It's a light spinning reel.
You know I just use polymer to uni.. I know it’s strange using those two together but it’s very strong. So by what I mean is the polymer is used on the fluoro and the uni on the braid.
That doesn’t makes sense to me. A Palomar knot is just for tackle and lures. You need to go through an eye of a hook swivel or lure and then pass the tackle(hook, swivel) or lure through the loop. How would that work on a line to line connection?
Thanks. I can complete an FG in two minutes complete with lock down and trimming off the tag ends. I highly doubt you can tie, tighten and trim an FG knot in 60 seconds complete ready to fish. Thanks watching
Why tie the 1st two knots? They're inferior? quicker yes but inferior according to you. I would never tie a knot if I thought I would lose a fish, even if I was in a hurry. Personally I use the modified Albright knot and have never had a breakoff. It's thin, long, strong and easy to tie compared to this 10 wrap.
Thanks for watching. The tutorial is for beginners. It sounds like you are an expert, ha ha...I only use the quickest knot if I'm catching small fish that I know aren't going to break the knot. I think I may have said that in the video. It's been a while since I made it, can't remember. Thanks for commenting.
Just noticed this was posted on my birthday. Uni to uni is definitely my go to, especial on the water.
I"ve fooled with the FG a couple of times now... Love the ease of the Uni to Uni but will try the FG once again.... Thanks.
Awesome video, literally saved my fishing trip. Bought my first really nice rod and reel with braid and my first time using braid to mono.
Those knots are awesome! GREAT tips to pass on.
Thanks for watching and commenting. They are working great for me.
Yup!!!! Your "new" way to tie/finish off your FG knot is "RAD". You nailed it brother!!!
Thanks, it's working great! I like having that extra insurance.
FG is my favorite knot.
Thanks mate very clear instruction to follow
Great vid. Love the choices; Good, better, best.
1,2,3. Thanks for sharing with us.
I use the blood knot and love it. Goes though the guides great.
Used the double uni for 35 years never let me down ever ALIEN
thank you for this video!

Thanks for watching. I have one coming out for attaching swivels with braid soon.

Thanks for the video.
When I fish with light line like you are describing I always use straight mono. Thanks.
@@RadReelingFishingusing the same knots? Thanks for responding.

What would you Call That first knot
JC special, ha ha...
Hehe 😊I only ask because I do use that knot and I've never really had a name for it
@@DanTheFishMan Maybe like a surgeons loop knot.
Holly Grouper !!!

For 30 lb line in surf i use a 5000 or 6000 holds more line and cast further

Great comment. It's a super fast knot to tie when fishing for smaller fish.
I keep rubber gloves in a zip lock bag in my bag. For first aid or glue
Isn’t blood knot just as good only asking never had on let go while salmon fishing North Pacific
I've never tried a Blood Knot. The FG is my favorite because it has the slimmest profile, but takes the longest to tie. When I tried to tie a Blood Knot I thought it was difficult.
love these but the Blood knot and the Albright are pretty quick
Only knots needed for braid to FC are the FG, Alberto, gt, and uni to uni. That's it. For most hook to line I use the double pitzen or the fish n fool. That covers everything pretty much except loop knots and that one goes to the rapala knot.
i tried the FG knot 5 times tying 8lb leader to 15lb braid and the flourocarbon pulled right through every time.
Here's an explaination ruclips.net/video/y0r4BnLduDs/видео.html
If you double up on the braid, the uni knot is close to 100%
Can tie a fg in 2 minutes at worst so just practice and always use the best knot
I'm running low on braid, only about 60 yards left on my reel. I don't fish for marlin or any huge fish either. You might want to research the Albright Knot. It's smaller than the FG in length.
@@RadReelingFishing Ok thank you very much!
I do the uni to uni knot
Once you start using the FG you won't go back.Never had a FG fail, the line breaks usually at one of the other knots to attach your lure, bait, etc.
You know I just use polymer to uni.. I know it’s strange using those two together but it’s very strong. So by what I mean is the polymer is used on the fluoro and the uni on the braid.
Thanks for the suggestion. I'm guessing that it's stronger than the uni to uin and that's why you tie it that way?
How would you even do a Palomar knot to a Uni on a line to line connection?
That doesn’t makes sense to me. A Palomar knot is just for tackle and lures. You need to go through an eye of a hook swivel or lure and then pass the tackle(hook, swivel) or lure through the loop.
How would that work on a line to line connection?
Just put a dab of super glue on uni for extra measure and its fine.... quick, easy and strong.
So true.
There is a better way to fg knot I can tie it wherever I am if you want me to show you let me know. I can normally do one in 60 seconds or so.
Thanks. I can complete an FG in two minutes complete with lock down and trimming off the tag ends. I highly doubt you can tie, tighten and trim an FG knot in 60 seconds complete ready to fish. Thanks watching
I will have to time it then but yes I can do it just not the way you tie it. Much easier way to do it without flipping the line back and forth
Why tie the 1st two knots? They're inferior? quicker yes but inferior according to you. I would never tie a knot if I thought I would lose a fish, even if I was in a hurry. Now that I have figured out fg knots they take me under a minute to tie
That's awesome KH. I've tried to hurry the knot, but haven't had much luck doing so. Thanks for commenting and watching the video.
Why not just put super glue on the double uni?
You can but I've never had one come apart. Thanks for watching and commenting.
So many knots where people assume everyone can use their teeth
Its not mono OR flurocarbon leader. Its just Mono.
Thanks for watching. I'm all about using just monofilament for sure.
dam I would never use the first knot
It's super fast and works great for smaller fish. Thanks for commenting.
tokay999 what is the weakest knot in this demo ? Thanks
First know is trash. You can do the same exact know making one of your tag ends going to your liter and obviously the other one going to Your real.
Thanks for watching. Actually the first knot works great as I described when and why I use it periodically.
