What people don't see is the pile of line and tag ends next to you from all the times you tried to film these knots effectively, keeping everything in frame without stumbling, stuttering, or doing something wrong. Hey thank you, you’re absolutely correct! The rest of the work area is a mess, and the amount of time it takes to film a successful take when doing this is definitely not small haha. It is definitely quite the process to film, edit, and deliver a video which (I hope!) is quality for people to learn from. I appreciate the encouragement, and it looks like you’re doing great things on your channel as well man! Thanks for stopping by, and keep it up yourself!! 🤙
My favorite knot but not to tie…your leader appears to be 15 - 20 pound test which would make this method possible. I typically use a 10 lbs test leader but I like your method better than using a Knot-Assist 2.0. Thanks
There is a better way to make the transition from your mainline onto the leader, a lot smoother using something akin to a snell knot on the mainline in front of the leader tag. I cast and retrieve my FG knot through the runners, there is a problem; once those 3x half hitches get abraded, and that bit slightly longer tag will catch and that especially the top eye causes wear on the half hitches, then the FG comes undone. Before I learned this trick, I used to have to retie the FG knot every session or even more often as it was getting worn and sometimes even failed in the middle of a long session. In summary, FG knot 2X half hitches snell knot up the mainline When tying the snell you actually run half the snell over the tag end and then a little bit up the mainline and then come back up to the tag but not over it, then head back up the mainline. About 18 rounds is Plenty. It really doesn’t add much time to tie and makes the not rock solid and smooth to retrieve. so when you’re retrieving line what the rod tip encounters in order is single thicknesssnell Double thickness snell Tag/Single thickness again snell over the tag 2x half hitches then the FG And that last forever and is smooth as silk through the top eye and runners
Thank you! So glad you enjoyed it… some people are quite mad at how long the video is 😂 but I tried to explain things as in-depth as possible! Thanks for watching 🙏
By far the simplest and most useful explanation of the FG knot that I've seen. I've been avoiding the FG knot because I've been too intimidated by the other videos that I've seen, but this video leaves me wanting to actually try it!
That’s awesome!! I’m so glad to hear it! I really encourage you to give it a try-and if you do, let me know how it goes! 🤙 thank you for watching and for your kind words!
FG is a must for Shore Jigging.. I don't do shore jigging only spinning and I'm using the Alberto knot. It hasn't fail me yet. My biggest fish is a 6.9kg bluefish caught from it's belly with a popper.. Unbelievable fight for over 12 mins. I thought at first that I caught something much much bigger.. catching a fish from it's belly doubles the weight.. The braid was damaged through the guides from the intense fight but the knot didn't fail. (Braid: SpiderWire Dura X4 0.20mm. Leader: Berkley FluoroShield 0.41mm)
After scouring RUclips for FG Knot tutorials and finding too many that were difficult to follow, I happened upon yours. It took me a few tries but eventually after reviewing and pausing your demonstration I got it. First with 50 braid and flouro, then 80/80 and finally 100/100. Excellent training video. Well done.
I've been avoiding this knot until I saw a salt strong video with the pinky wrap method. That way is pretty good and all, but this way looks like the holy grail. You can tie it this way in the dark, by feel, and without any tension on the mainline from the rod - perfect!
I just watched 3 of your knot tying videos and I gotta say they were among the best, clearest, easy to follow instructions of the hundreds or thousands of knot videos I've watched. It really shows when someone understands what they're teaching and puts some thought into it. I wish more youtubers did that.
Thank you so much for the kind words! I really appreciate it, and what you described is specifically what I have tried to do in my tutorials. I’m really glad they have been helpful to you, and hopefully others as well!! 🙏 thank you again.
@@JustTheLip Id LOVE to see this knot tested with a fish scale, and get a sense of its break point/slip point vs the general strength of the linage itself. This is neat and makes me what to scale it up in radio tower work when we're lifting and lowering 800 lb hybrid cables; we already do something similar to this, but there's always room for improvement, and your tests would probably scale up for what I'd use it for in most cases. (*side note* with the most earnest respect, at 7:00 all the "Strength" is in that half hitch or whatever the final knot is and not the braids unless the braids slip before the hitch breaks. The braids are treating the larger line as the barrel point so without any significant bites I agree the braids (baskets) are the strongest point, however, the hitch introduces the tightest radius outside the braids coefficient of friction and so assuming the braids don't slip, then the hitch is the weak point on the system. My theory is if you did a break test, it would snap at around 60-65% of the rated strength of the weakest line. To the rest of the people who might read this, the knots provide no additional strength, it is simply a hitch to prevent the braid from slipping, and to keep those braids under tension; the overlapping of the two strands can have a cutting action, but the friction will develop in the cinching hitch at the very end first before those forces can begin to evenly distribute into the FG Knot. I must say though, this shits on a timber hitch. Love this.) ~Cheers.
@TrueHelpTV i have seen a few videos of this k ot compared to others when it really started to take off with the easier ways to tie it this holds around 90-100% knot strenth over multiple tests compared to another popular knot the albright that only has 70-80% the realy only improvment that can be done is less half hitches and a dab of a good soft silicon based super glue that has flex i personaly use a tiny bit of sikaflex just keeps the half hitch from sliping over time
I've watched no less than 15 fg knot tutorials, but I will say... this is a lot easier to be done when using super heavy leader line such as what's shown in this video and all other videos ive seen. It's much harder to do this on leader line that is much thinner like 6-10 pound flouro. Having leader line that isn't as rigid as what's used in this video makes this almost impossible for the leader to not twist. I'd like to see this same video with small leader. Despite this, the video was very well done and one of the best I've seen.
Copy that. For thin leaders i prefer this knot: ruclips.net/video/1_nhS4HdRrA/видео.htmlsi=m35UhGoq_oQa73Iy&t=940 I don't know the name and I have never seen it in english tutorials - seems to be a German thing. But works perfectly for me for the thinner ones and runs nicely through the guides aswell. Also relatively easy and quick to tie.
@user-ut1ej3mk8t Watched the German (heard "middle finger" alot) video and it looks like he's tying a clinch knot using the looped leader as the "eye" with 45 wraps(!) before going back to the loop with the tag end.
Great video. As with many others here I have been avoiding this knot because of the apparent complexity and the doubts that I could or would tie it while fishing. This video greatly simplifies the knot for me. Two questions. Why not finish the knot with a single uni with 6 or 7 wraps? What about a dab of head cement or or Loon UV thin fly finish? Or both?
Thank you, and I’m glad it helped simplify things! To answer your questions, first, I don’t know of a reason a uni knot wouldn’t work to finish it. I would give it a shot to test it out and see how it goes. Second, you absolutely can use a dab of super glue on the finish of this knot (it’s actually pretty common!), and it will secure the knot even further. Hope this helps! 🤙
Best way to tie an FG knot I’ve seen yet. Super simple with the triangle method. Smart. Good vid. 👍🏻 (edit: I do like a Rizzuto finish on all braid-to-leader knots though because it builds a small cone kind of ramp that makes the wear on the main line braid side of the knot pass through the guides much smoother.)
Thank you, I’m glad you liked it! And yeah, I understand the appeal of the Rizutto, I just haven’t found it personally worth the extra time… the three last half hitches build a small ramp as well, although admittedly not as neatly as the Rizutto! Thank you for the comment and for watching!
I’ve tied this knot a thousand times. I found the magic number of wraps to be 18 minimum. And 3 hitch knots to finish it. Burn the leader material tag end after trimming it to create a little knob. Sometimes I dab a little superglue on the braid tag end to prevent fraying.
Wow! Just that easy. I tried it with some heavy leader for my first try and feel like I nailed it. Great presentation. Respect! One comment to the people who might go with uni-to-uni because it is easy, you have to see this video: "Braid-To-Leader KNOTS…I Wish I Knew This SOONER!". Prior to watching that video, uni-to-uni has been my go to.
Brilliant mate, I left a reel of 80lb braid and a reel of 100lb leader on the table in front of my computer. For three days each time i sat down to check email or stuff around I practiced the knot! Now with practice I am highly proficient with a knot, one which I was always frightened away from. This weekend I am going to give a demonstration at my fishing club! Fantastic learning curve, many thanks!
Greetings from South Africa, great tutorial ! I've always had trouble with the finger triangle method, since people usually demo it with some intricate hand movements. This way seems very clear, and focused on keeping the tension. I'm going to revisit it !
Tuna fisherman here. Try setting up the Rizutto finish first, tighten that down, and that will act as a dam for the FG knot to butt against while it cinches onto the leader. You'll know the braid bites into the line when it changes color (it should darken). If the braid doesn't change color, the knot will fail. Creating that dam will help the finished end of that knot stay where it should be and get a full bit into the leader (if you just do the half hitch, it doesn't quite get the full bite, like your not @6:30). Lastly, melt the leader tag nub with a lighter to create a small bulb that will never slip through the knot.
Thanks for the tips! I’ve heard a lot of people comment about burning and/or gluing the knot. Definitely seems more common with folks like you who are targeting massive tuna! Definitely something to consider and try, thank you very much for the feedback!
Really beautiful presentation. Clear, precisely to the point. Was able to tie it on my first attempt after this. Not the prettiest but with other videos I was not able to get to this point. Thank you!
by far the easiest method. I am double uni knot guy for many many years, and have never had any issues either it. Except it does mess with me when I tried it with heavier leaded 45lb above. however after watching this, I am so convinced to give FG another try. I really appreciate you for explaining so clearly. Tight lines. Subscribed😍
Thank you so much for this video, I've been trying to tie the FG knot for a while now, using multiple different versions, but this is the only one that has worked without coming undone
I’ve always been hesitant to learn this knot as most tutorials aren’t put together well. This was very straight forward and easy to follow. Gonna attempt this tomorrow! Tying 100lbs braid to 130lbs mono.
After watching multiple videos as I tie a FG, I'd have to restart and tie 4-8x just to get it right, After watching this video, I was only able to tie this knot within two attempts. And just ad I speculated, you are definitely right on the knot about the strength on this knot, I now just tie 1 half hitch around both leader and main, then snip the leader tag, then 1 or 2 half hitch on the main, ever since then. That's when I realized how tought this knot is. I've snag on a rock once, and anchored a 14ft fiberglass boat. 50lb jbraid to 25lb mono. And that shit held up incredible well. Thank you!
Well that was enlightening! I’m not sure why I watched to the end but I did and your explanation and visuals were fantastic. I use a double Uni knot for smaller diameter lines but this looks like a great knot for heavy leader. You did an excellent job of slowly and concisely explaining the knot step by step and then repeating it was a great way of getting people to remember how to tie it. Fantastic job! I’m going to try it at work today I work in a tackle shop and I often get customers wanting me to tie their knots joining various lines. Well done!
Ultimately, it has been my experience that the size of the lines will be what determines how you do the locking knot. I became a fan of this knot a few years back and lock mine with 2 single half hitches and never had a failure. My failures are usually the leader line itself. Which has typically been a result of just not feel checking the line for nicks often enough. If your fishing bodies of water with zebra muscles. Check your line often, cause they will nick up your line something fierce. I really like your method of making the knot in this video. I tend to use a really long leader so I don't have to retie as often simple because the technique I learned is very cumbersome and hard to tie confidently while on the water. I feel like I could actually use this method while on the water and keep the same level of confidence in the knot. Kudos to the person who taught you this method and good job your video. Your angle, lighting, and background made it very easy to see the knot being tied.
I recently lost my lure & leader using another type of knot. I’m so definitely gonna try this knot which should handle the abrasion over the eyes of the fishing rod a lot better. Thank you for this tutorial and you did it really well - top job!
Awesome, thank you for the kind feedback! I hope it works well for you, and I would give it some practice to get confident with it and give it a try! 🤙
Agreed, but with some practice this one is easy to tie in less than a minute or so and can be done between spots… but I’m with you, tie what you’re comfortable with and spend more time fishing, less time knotting! 😅 thanks for watching 🤙
I like the clear visuals, being able to see whats going on when pausing and playing the video when following along. Also, thank you for explaining why, why you dont wrap more, why you only tie 6 half hitches, and why you do what you do.
The first time I tied this knot I followed the video exactly with 16 wraps and six half hitches. It was easy and the knot didn't budge. My theory is fewer wraps is better because its easier to get them to cinch tighter to the mono than more wraps. Great tutorial, thanks.
Very useful for a newbie like me. Will gonna use this knot for my next first ever fishing trip. Thanks a lot for this great video, sir! Much appreciated!
For myself this is by far the best method to tie the knot I have seen to date. It was the knot that intimidated me the most as I'm not the most dexterous. The video just made things click and gave me the confidence that what I was doing was going to be correct but more importantly was going to be fit for purpose The filming and explanation was brilliant.....thank you 👍
Great explaination of how to tye the knot, I've used this knot for the last couple of years and have found this way to tie it works best for me. Again great job on the video and your insight into the knot.
I've used this knot exclusively for several years for braid/mono connections. This is a great demonstration. I did it this way until I saw Ott DeFoe's video using the looped line tensioned by the rod and tied to the reel handle. It's a great method that is easier for me. I agree on the 3x3 half hitches being enough but I also like to tie three more after I clip the mono so that there isn't a sharp edge on top of the knot to catch on anything when reeling it in. When you're tying this if you realize it's not smooth and there's a loop or hitch somewhere in the knot then you've done something wrong and need to start over.
I've always steered clear of this knot due to the complicated knot-tying process; after seeing your video and explanation I'm going to give this knot another try. Thank you - subscribed! Tight lines. 👍
Great video great tehnic im using it my self for quiet some time now and i agree with everything you said just 1 little tip.when you cut that leader leave it a little longer and then burn it with a ligher what you will get is a small ball that will keep everything in its place..cheers buddy .
Yeah. I don't consider that to be a 'knot' despite the two 'hitch' knots. It's more like gift wrapping. I too shall stick with my two uni knots butting against each other.
I use the FG…I use 14 loops so 7 full wraps, secure with 2 half hitches, wet and cinch, cut leader tag flush, then 2 final half hitches with braid tag end, cut to about 1/8 inch …I’ve haven’t had knot failures with this method…super thin small knot that goes through guides nicely…mainly freshwater bass fishing…if doing saltwater may use more wraps consider finishing knots…haven’t had good luck with the hand method you demonstrated…I still hold tension with my mouth…good video
Almost identical way I do mine. Ive been using a FG for about 10 years on everything from 6lb to 80lb. Taught a bunch of people to tie it as well. I average 12 to 15 wraps and 2 hitches over both and 3 hitches over mainline. I tension the knot with only 1 hitch like this video. But Whilst putting the wraps on I use my fingers slightly differently and have tension on leader with my foot. I don't use anything else now.
For a couple years I was afraid to even tie this knot. Gave it a try after watching THIS video. Took me an hour to get it right but now I know I won’t be breaking leaders off. Satisfying knot once it’s complete too. Excellent job on the video 🤝
Great tutorial. I’d suggest doing the last half hitches after trimming off the leader tag end. This creates a smother knot for casting as the last half hitches mask the leader material.
I appreciate that advice-I have tied it both ways in the past, tying the last three after trimming definitely works well also! Thank you for the comment and for watching! 🤙
Best video Ive watched for this knot, I hate that youtube took this long to show me this one. Finally gonna get that mono leader on the ugly stick tonight, Thank you!
@@larrymoss9954 Well I did have to come up with my own method since my line is far thinner than his, so it's a bit more difficult to do following the way he's doing it.
I appreciate that you didn't speed through the half-hitch parts of this knot. I've watched several videos where they focus on the wraps and then the half-hitches are an afterthought - for example, in other videos I didn't see that the first ~3 half-hitches go over both the leader and the braid. Thank you for going through every detail.
I have tied this knot for 7 years. My way sucks in a 20 knot wind and waves. I will try your way. I have never had mine fail. Only one half hitch, trim leader to about 1/16”, melt tag end with windproof torch lighter to create mushroom end on leader, then finish with 10 half hitches.done. If you want it more secure, superglue the half hitches and first half of fg.. Tip…superglue will smooth out the transition from 10lb braid to 50lb leader. I use this knot in all sizes of braid up to 100lb and all sizes of leaders up to 150lb. All my tarpon and trolling setups get superglued! They don’t fail, ever!
This knot is a serious case of overkill for fresh water fishing. It was designed for tying really heavy leaders to really heavy main line for blue water fishing. There is no reason a bass fisherman will ever need a knot this complicated.
Although it is great for heavier leaders, it is also very useful for smaller leaders in situations where you want to cast the knot through your eyelets as smoothly as possible! Also, smaller line can sometimes “bite” into the leader better than larger line, so it is definitely used in lighter-line circumstances as well! That being said, I take your point, and personally I use the double uni knot for joining lines under about 20-30lbs. Thank you for commenting!
Agree 100% about where it came from, what its meant for and way over kill for anything swimming in fresh water short of a wells catfish! - there are easier ways to tie when using smaller lines leaders though too. I use it for everything, this and a PR not just because I build my own rods and build them not with micro guides but smaller guides and FG, PR are as small and smooth as it gets.
Exactly. The reason i prefer this knot over what I used to tie(Alberto knot) is it's smooth casting more so than it's strength. But even when I've had to break off a snag it never breaks at the knot and always breaks near the lure. Heck I've even just tied on another lure to the same leader and been totally fine just proving why a couple extra minutes tying this knot is worth it in my opinion.
Speak for yourself….i use this knot a lot when using deep diving crankbaits from 30# braid to 10# fluoro to get the maximum depth possible. And you need that “overkill” when bouncing it off the bottom, rocks and getting unsnagged.
Just started taking fishing somewhat seriously. I tried this in the field on a pier at night. BOY WHAT A MESS I HAD! It was dark and a bit windy. Plus my eye sight isn’t what it used to be. Took about 15 minutes plus a lot of colorful language, lol. However it is an easy knot. Like anything, practice makes better and now it’s become quite easy. Thanks for a great video with simple explanations. Now I just need to catch fish.
You are an excellent instructor! Your video made tying this knot so clear and no longer intimidating. I appreciate your calm steady voice and execution. Great job!
Brilliant thanks, Ive een in hospital and slowly recovering but will be out there by Feb 25. I will definatly use this when I can move my knackered arm. tight lines !
I have never seen this knot before, and I am definitely going to try it. I do a lot of carp fishing and I use braid main line with a monofilament shock leader on the front to avoid abrasion and cutting my fingers while casting The knot I've been using is big and bulky and has a tendency to tick through the line guides. This looks like it's going to be a lot slicker and increase my casting distance. Thank you very, very much for this wonderful tutorial.
This was an outstanding video. Not sure if this is the best way to go for "plastic" lines below 20lb...but, if know for certain this is the knot you're going to tie, then this is definitely the way to do it. Huge thank you for sharing this!
I've been using this knot for 4 yrs now. Imo it is the best knot for tying braided mainline to a fluorocarbon leader. Its actually not as difficult to tie as many think Nice video
I've heard about this knot a lot, but it just gave me a case of mental fog. Tonight I decided I was going to see whether this knot was as difficult as I perceived it to be. Thank you so much for your clear explanation and demonstration of this knot. No more mental fog and keen to practice tying this knot over and over. Liked and subscribed! Thanks so much from Australia.
Awesome!! Thanks so much for all the kind feedback! I’m glad this could be helpful for you, and I hope the knot has been working for you! 🤙 tight lines!
What a well presented video. My hat to you. Nice and slow and so very well explained. We need more of this type of video from others. I generally have to play videos twice in order to finally get it. Thank you so much. Sami
So glad you liked it! Thanks for the kind comment. Some people get really angry when they see a video this long… but I tried to be thorough in my explanation. Thank you!
This is far and away the best way I've seen to tie this knot. I've never used it because the finish to the knot by other anglers is so flipping confusing!!!
I tie this knot exactly like you’ve demonstrated here. I use 16 loops +-. My finish is different but I’ve never had any issues with it ever. I tie 3 half hitches over both lines like you did, then I tie a risotto and I’m done after trimming my lines away. I’ve never had any problem with my knots coming loose nor failing after use through the guides.
Without doubt, the best explanation of this knot I've seen. This method is exactly how I was tought by a guide. Dispelling some industry myths too. Love it😊
Great FG knot use it on all my braid fluorocarbon leader lines I use different technique to make it, but it’s the same knot. On the boats deck hands always ask me what kind of knot is it? I tell them it’s the FG knot 🪢 a lot of people ask me about it, though, even on the lakes. i’m gonna try your technique on my 2 pound set ups braid to fluorocarbon. definitely keeping this technique for my 2 pound set ups. Thank you for sharing it on RUclips.
I have never had that knot unravel, amazing. I've even just used one half hitch at the end and it's held. There's been some where due to my sloppiness the braid unravels a little but it never unraveled. I like this method because I usually use the rod as tension and that's hard sometimes on a Kayak. Great video!
I am a huge fan of the FG knot, but I am using it on light braid / trace (4lb braid to 6 or 8lb trace). I have been using a different method of tying the knot as it works well with thin lines, but I will give this method a try. I foresee issues with the trace tag end not being stiff enough to weave. Hopefully I’m wrong as this is a great compact & fast method to lay the wraps. Thank you for one of the best knot tutorials on RUclips.
FG works better with heavier lines..hence why you see a lot of saltwater fishermen praise it. Anything under 12lb leader, I stick with the Alberto knot.
It's worth noting that this knot (and the PR knot) are really only needed on heavier lines. I mostly live in the ultralight world and I see people all the time who think they have to use this knot on 6lb or 4lb line because they keep hearing that it's the strongest knot. The point of the FG and PR knots is the small diameter so it goes through guides easier and doesn't destroy the guides over time by beating the crap out of them. If you're on lighter gear, other joiner knots are totally fine and easier to tie (on lighter line).
Thank you sir.i hv been ignore fg knot my whole fishing cause others video make it very difficult..but your explanation very simple and easy i can do it perfectly for first time. Thank you sir im ur new subscriber 👍
Finally someone who can explain this knot in a way that not only makes sense, but that is replicable and repeatable. And that gives an explanation of how and why this knot works. I'm a do-it-all kinda fisherman. In that I want my rods to be able to go from casting cranks to slip bobbering. So I need a thin-profile knot, and I've wanted to use this knot for a while, just couldn't ever figure out how to tie it.
I'd like to see these guys show us how good they are with 10lb braid and 4lb fluorocarbon. Now that's fun.
I use yellow braid so I can watch the line.
I was jus about to say that 😂
What people don't see is the pile of line and tag ends next to you from all the times you tried to film these knots effectively, keeping everything in frame without stumbling, stuttering, or doing something wrong.
In summary,
FG knot
2X half hitches
snell knot up the mainline
When tying the snell you actually run half the snell over the tag end and then a little bit up the mainline and then come back up to the tag but not over it, then head back up the mainline. About 18 rounds is Plenty.
It really doesn’t add much time to tie and makes the not rock solid and smooth to retrieve.
so when you’re retrieving line what the rod tip encounters in order is
single thicknesssnell
Double thickness snell
Tag/Single thickness again snell over the tag
2x half hitches
then the FG
And that last forever and is smooth as silk through the top eye and runners
@@chrispac6264 Are you describing the Rizzuto finish technique?
Well let’s see u do it hotshot clown
The best FG video because it's slow enough to show the hand movements.
Thanks. ❤
Thank you! So glad you enjoyed it… some people are quite mad at how long the video is 😂 but I tried to explain things as in-depth as possible! Thanks for watching 🙏
@JustTheLip I'm not totally useless but not super dexterous. Great help. 👍
🤙 thank you for watching and for your kind words!
i've tried it multiple times. and i end up returning to the modified alberto and have no problems and find it much easier to tie.
Lol😂

Why does it seem to make a knot in my line every time I go over and under my braid never seems to straighten
Well done.

Thank you so much for the kind words! I really appreciate it, and what you described is specifically what I have tried to do in my tutorials. I’m really glad they have been helpful to you, and hopefully others as well!! 🙏 thank you again.
You make clear where the strength of the knot is. That is what makes your explanation of this knot better than others. Excellent job.
Thank you! So glad you liked it! 🤙
Love this.)
~Cheers.
For that purpose, you'd be better off using the PR Bobbin knot
@TrueHelpTV i have seen a few videos of this k ot compared to others when it really started to take off with the easier ways to tie it this holds around 90-100% knot strenth over multiple tests compared to another popular knot the albright that only has 70-80% the realy only improvment that can be done is less half hitches and a dab of a good soft silicon based super glue that has flex i personaly use a tiny bit of sikaflex just keeps the half hitch from sliping over time
Been using this knot for a decade and I finish it with one half hitch over then one double half hitch under and you’re done. Never failed me
Awesome! Glad that works for you! 🤙
I fish rather light for flicking would it make a good difference in distance and feel over the double uni?
@@watosmate8935 in my opinion yes.
That's the problem I have with any of the different methods used to toe this knot. Thin leader line it's hard as hell to do.
Thin is more difficult, I use extra 3.0 mag glasses and keep a moderate tension on the braid, too much and it will twist the leader.
Copy that. For thin leaders i prefer this knot:
ruclips.net/video/1_nhS4HdRrA/видео.htmlsi=m35UhGoq_oQa73Iy&t=940
I don't know the name and I have never seen it in english tutorials - seems to be a German thing.
@@ML-ks2lj You didn't get the jist of the comments here.
I don’t even know how to tie my shoes, but I can tie an FG now thanks to you. Thumbs up.
This is the way a demonstration video should be done. The best explanation out there.
🙏 thank you so much! I really appreciate that, and I’m glad it was helpful!
This is by far the easiest and much more understandable video I have seen when doing FG knot. Even my 5 yr old can follow. Great video 👍
Awesome! I’m so glad it was helpful, thank you for the kind feedback! 🙏🤙 tight lines!!
The best example / tutorial of an FG knot I have seen on RUclips. Well done, and thank you
🙏 thank you very much! I’m glad you enjoyed it!! Thanks for the comment.
5 Stars, knot configuration aside,
One of the most detailed and comprehensive explanations of said knot. Great job, and thank you. Tight lines.
Awesome man! So glad you liked it and found it helpful! Thanks for watching and letting me know 🤙 tight lines!
Awesome! Thanks so much for the kind feedback, and I hope it works great for you! 🤙
Do u make biltong
I sure do@@wokbok43
Thank you!
Awesome! I’m really glad to hear it! Thank you so much for the feedback, and I’m glad it worked for you!
by far the easiest method.
I am double uni knot guy for many many years, and have never had any issues either it. Except it does mess with me when I tried it with heavier leaded 45lb above.
however after watching this, I am so convinced to give FG another try.
I really appreciate you for explaining so clearly.
Tight lines.

Best fg tutorial on u tube. Mad props for being clear concise and thorough. Excellent job ! 👍
Awesome!! Thanks so much for the feedback man, I really appreciate it and I’m glad you liked the tutorial! 🤙🤙
Awesome! I hope it works great for you! Let me know how it goes, and definitely get a few practice runs in if you can!
Well done!
Thank you very much for the detailed and positive feedback! I really appreciate it, and I’m glad you enjoyed it and got some value out of it!!
Don't you think that is better to lose the lure and the leader than to lose the lure, the leader and possibly many yards of your main line?
I like simplified designs with tie knots in the field. Every minute you're tying a knot is every minute you're not fishing. 😊👍
Absolutely! Thank you for the feedback, and for watching! I really appreciate it!
There is a reason guy is using a 100lb leader line 🤣
The first time I tied this knot I followed the video exactly with 16 wraps and six half hitches. It was easy and the knot didn't budge. My theory is fewer wraps is better because its easier to get them to cinch tighter to the mono than more wraps. Great tutorial, thanks.
Very useful for a newbie like me. Will gonna use this knot for my next first ever fishing trip. Thanks a lot for this great video, sir! Much appreciated!
Absolutely! Thank you for watching, and hopefully it works out well for you!
next and first ever fishing trip?
Some fishing trips need to be erased from memory, lol @@tolpacourt
For myself this is by far the best method to tie the knot I have seen to date. It was the knot that intimidated me the most as I'm not the most dexterous. The video just made things click and gave me the confidence that what I was doing was going to be correct but more importantly was going to be fit for purpose The filming and explanation was brilliant.....thank you 👍
Great explaination of how to tye the knot, I've used this knot for the last couple of years and have found this way to tie it works best for me. Again great job on the video and your insight into the knot.
I’m glad you have used this and enjoy the video!! Thank you for the kind feedback! Tight lines!!
I’ve seen a shitload of fg knot videos and this one is the clearest and best one yet. Thanks for sharing 😊🎣
Hey thank you, I appreciate that! Glad it was helpful, and thanks for watching! 🤙
I've always steered clear of this knot due to the complicated knot-tying process; after seeing your video and explanation I'm going to give this knot another try. Thank you - subscribed! Tight lines. 👍
Awesome! So glad to hear it man! Thank you for the kind words and for subscribing! 🙏🤙 tight lines!
Wow man,I've avoided learning this knot because of the perceived difficulty that most anglers have with this knot. It really doesn't seem so bad
That's great man, there's lots of different ways but this is the one that seems the most simple to me! I hope it helps!
Great video great tehnic im using it my self for quiet some time now and i agree with everything you said just 1 little tip.when you cut that leader leave it a little longer and then burn it with a ligher what you will get is a small ball that will keep everything in its place..cheers buddy .
I appreciate all the time and energy that went into this. You have confirmed that I will keep using the double uni, so thank you lol
Yeah. I don't consider that to be a 'knot' despite the two 'hitch' knots. It's more like gift wrapping. I too shall stick with my two uni knots butting against each other.
FG is almost %50 stronger than double uni knot.
I dont think my pinky was supposed to turn blue right
You will get faster and that won't happen.
@lenbeard1047 gotten alot better now only takes like 30sec to tie one
Almost identical way I do mine. Ive been using a FG for about 10 years on everything from 6lb to 80lb. Taught a bunch of people to tie it as well.
I average 12 to 15 wraps and 2 hitches over both and 3 hitches over mainline. I tension the knot with only 1 hitch like this video. But Whilst putting the wraps on I use my fingers slightly differently and have tension on leader with my foot.
I don't use anything else now.
Love to hear it! That’s crazy you use it all the way down to 6lb leader, I usually just switch to a double uni knot by that point!
For a couple years I was afraid to even tie this knot. Gave it a try after watching THIS video. Took me an hour to get it right but now I know I won’t be breaking leaders off. Satisfying knot once it’s complete too. Excellent job on the video 🤝
Thanks bud. U made it look simple to do. Clear and easily comprehensible tutorial. I am going to grab my lines now
Awesome! Thank you so much, and good luck! 🤙
This is probably the best video ive found on the fg! The speed will come with time, try doing it with 6lb braid and 4,5,8lb leader 😂😂
Thank you so much! And absolutely right… I will also say this method is much easier with heavier line than it is lighter lines!
This is a phenomenal tutorial. Haven’t tackled the FG knot yet but I can’t wait to tie it now
Thank you so much for the kind feedback! I hope it works great for you! 🤙 tight lines!
Best explanation I’ve seen yet. Yes other people show this but not to this detail. You are the FG King.
Wow. Clear, descriptive, right speed, and no jumpcuts. Anglers with a lot of subscribers than you could learn from you
BULL!
NIce video, but this is impossible (at least for me) with fluoro of 0,30 mm or thinner.
Un saludo,
Pablo
Yeah, it is definitely more difficult with smaller leader material. For those situations I like to use the double uni knot!
You don't want to use this knot on 8lb and smaller. Use a surgeon or double uni for light line
Great job!
This was great, I have been practicing and can now sping them off in about 2 minutes. Thanks for taking the time to put this together.
Brilliant thanks, Ive een in hospital and slowly recovering but will be out there by Feb 25. I will definatly use this when I can move my knackered arm. tight lines !
I have never seen this knot before, and I am definitely going to try it. I do a lot of carp fishing and I use braid main line with a monofilament shock leader on the front to avoid abrasion and cutting my fingers while casting
The knot I've been using is big and bulky and has a tendency to tick through the line guides. This looks like it's going to be a lot slicker and increase my casting distance. Thank you very, very much for this wonderful tutorial.
Easy to see and hear, one of the best tutorials I've seen.
🙏 thank you very much for the kind words! I’m glad you found it helpful!
I want to thank you for the instructions, I have watched several videos and yours is the best I have seen. You make it so much easier.
Its actually not as difficult to tie as many think
Nice video
Thank you! Glad it works well for you!!

Wow, thank you so much! That was the first “super thanks” I have received-I really appreciate it!
This is far and away the best way I've seen to tie this knot. I've never used it because the finish to the knot by other anglers is so flipping confusing!!!
Thank you! This my favorite to tie it and keep the wraps close together for shorter knots and easier casting through the last eyelet
Love it😊
best demo I've seen out of maybe 30 or so videos
Thank you very much, I've been struggling tying this knot even with a jig. You've just blown them all out of the water, so easy.
One of the best FG instruction vids I've seen. Well done & thanks!
Thank you for getting straight to the point and not begging for like and subscribe I tend to watch these videos multiple times.
Great video! I had a few fg knots fail and your video explains exactly why I had it wrong before!
So glad it helped, thanks for watching!
I have never had that knot unravel, amazing. I've even just used one half hitch at the end and it's held. There's been some where due to my sloppiness the braid unravels a little but it never unraveled. I like this method because I usually use the rod as tension and that's hard sometimes on a Kayak. Great video!
I really enjoyed watching your video, it made what I thought was a diffiicult knot look easy. I can't wait to try this this afternoon. Thanks.
Glad it was helpful! Thanks for the kind feedback, let me know how it goes! 🤙
Was a really helpful video and was the easiest fg knot I've tied thus far
This is the best video I’ve seen on how to tie this knot with your hands. Excellent job. Subscribed!
The best video I have seen to teach FG Knot, thanks a lot man
I am a huge fan of the FG knot, but I am using it on light braid / trace (4lb braid to 6 or 8lb trace).
You are welcome! 🙏 thank you for the kind feedback and for subscribing, I’m glad it was so helpful for you!
This changed my life!! Thank you so much for such a on point video! Nice lighting and voice.. Appreciate your contributions
Awesome! Thank you so much, I’m glad it worked so well for you! 🤙
Awesome!! I’m so glad this tutorial works for you, and I hope the knot works for you too! Thank you for the comment and tight lines! 🤙
This is by far the best explanation i have seen! Sharing this with my buddies.

Awesome!! 🙏 thank you so much, so glad you found it helpful!
Best example I’ve seen. I usually use a 6 loop uni to finish. It covers the end of the main line and helps protect in casting through the guides.
Awesome! I can see that being an extremely strong finish as well-thank you for the comment!
First video I’ve seen of yours and man that was super helpful and well paced and filmed. Thank you!
