Google Pixel Fold After The Buzz - Oh Well 👀

- Опубликовано: 4 июл 2024
- Even if most products get forgotten by the media after their review period is done, there are a few that stand out. Gadgets that people still ask about months later. Some that we even decide to hold-on to as daily drivers, and that we get to see age over time. The Google Pixel Fold is one of them. This might just be one of the most interesting foldables of last year, that's already going beyond its refresh cycle. I've you're wondering if it's still worth considering, this video is for you.

People complain about the outer screen of the Z Fold but i think it's nice to be able to use my phone with one hand
Outside ergonomics are phenomenal
Agreed. Singled handed use while folded makes the Z Fold a joy to use. There are no issues with apps rendering properly on the cover screen, either. Makes using it a breeze with reachability and a solid grip. I'm glad to see the Fold 6 is not dramatically increasing the cover screen size.
people bitched so much about the outer display having the candy bar shape, but it's great for ONE-HANDED usage. The display makes you want to UNFOLD the device.

Thank goodness Im not the only one saying this anymore. Been saying the same since the Fold 3 Launched, and still love it and use it today

There's literally a new Pixel Fold being announced this fall though...

I think Google accidently made a perfect size of a new Pixel. I like the phone but folded is a perfect size and shape. Not too tall and thick.
Google being Google they've gotta go mess it up!!! WTF SMH
Yeah I want a pixel wide that is literally just the front screen on the fold. It's just a perfect size and capability.
Your right, Samsung's z fold 6 is nonsense and are all these RUclipsrs bragging about the Zfold6 is too small.

Sad that their new foldable model is going to be a different aspect ratio, the passport size has already been abandoned.

Google is infuriating company. It's like you want to like their products but they just don't let you 😂
I think the mass censorship and surveillance is the real problem with google
Magsafe with out a case would be nice on a foldable, forced to put a case on a folding device just adds bulk
would love to have a good budget phone with this form factor and screen size (form factor once closed, not a foldable phone)
I'm watching on my Pixel Fold love it and still buzzing on Android 15 beta so many updates since I bought at launch. It's a perfect size very thin great cameras. Love the weight plus with a thin case is great.
I have the fold 5 and it hands down the best phone I have ever had in my life. I think it just works so well. I think if Google look at their competition they can truly make an outstanding phone
I love the form factor - wish they would've stuck with it
7:10 The Pixel fold form factor was a good alternative to the taller form factor like the OnePlus Open, from my perspective. But I wasn't too surprise when the majority of the consumers showed more love for a taller, bigger screen such as the OnePlus Open foldable. It has proven many times that bigger screen is better, but I still wasn't expecting that customers would show less interest in the Pixel Fold form factor (which is Google first Fold). But it is what it is. 😎💯💪🏾👍🏾
the passport form factor is nice actually… I just wish they put a more durable inner display….
Love my fold, works perfect on Android 15 🎉.
I legit forgot this existed until this popped up in my recommendations
5:34 this is not a problem on the Fold 5. One of many reasons why I enjoy the taller and skinnier form factor of its cover screen. It also means that when you open it you get the more useful portrait orientation rather than landscape on the P Fold.
Why is portrait more useful for an inner screen? You already have the outer screen for those use cases. The inner screen is perfect for watching movies or multitasking with two apps side by side.
I wouldn't say I like the aspect ratio on the Galaxy Fold, and when you open up and use a split screen, you get the same two narrow split screens. I sold my Galaxy after 6 months, and it also made a noise when opening and closing. Had the Pixel Fold since new. It has had no issues, and I love the outer display. I am not saying that the Galaxy Fold is bad; if you like that aspect ratio, then its good, but it is very divisive and, to me, a deal-breaker.
@@Ronnet because portrait is the native orientation for most apps so using one app in full screen is a good experience. Side by side split screen in portrait is also good for the same reason - more height for vertically oriented content. Vice versa, it works well for two horizontally split apps, too, where one is media or a game.
I use my Fold 5 like this multiple times a day.
@@andyH_England I could say the same about the P Fold. Different strokes is why having options with not every foldable being the same is good.
@@nickthaskater I agree; the choice is good. Just saying that the Galaxy Fold is far from perfect in design and the fact every other fold released has a wider aspect ratio is not a coincidence.
At least for me it works very well, I do street photography, and sometimes I even print the pictures in the spot. I absolutely love to take pictures and then wheen transferring to the phone open the phone and becomes a tablet where I can edit them with more detail
After using the Pixel 6 and 7 Pro and having just a god awful time with them, I couldn't imagine spending $1800 on a first gen foldable from Google, not to mention it weighing a ton.
7 pro was very enjoyable after android 14 update
@@7techno77 battery life was still atrocious compared to other phones and that took waiting for almost a year.
Do you mean god awful?!

Wishing Pixel to come to Asia. Currently rocking the Fold 5
Asia has the Xiaomi Mix 3 Fold and the Vivo X Fold 3. They have the best foldable Form factor on the market
Oh well. The infamous pixel fold with huge potential👍
I think the problem with foldables and tablets in general is that apps have not been optimized for larger screens. Tablets have been around for as long as we can remember, but developers still do not optimize their apps to maximize the larger screens.
Tablets just don't have market share to be considered a priority, unless its apple. That said, things should have changed when the Galaxy fold evolved past the first iteration. It's on google and all manufacturers to work together to evolve android and tablet/larger screen support in applications. They're all just too damn lazy.
@@NyteStalker89 Tablets are redundant devices in the bigger picture. Unless they put real OS (read: Desktop OS with optional touch UI), it won't get off. Tablets today are using crappy mobile OS. With a few exception like Surface.
@@NyteStalker89 Even then you still have stuff like the garbage Instagram app.
@@bassyey I have a samsung Tab S9 and this thing is amazing (despite me owning a flagship phone and great laptop)
💯 I tried the OnePlus and the Galaxy.... Sent them both back because of this. And honestly, developers don't give a crap about Android so I don't even see it happening until Apple does it.
Watching this on my beloved fold
I love my Pixel Fold. I am super happy with it. Everything works very well and I buck the trend but I am always opening the phone because I am much happier with the larger screen and I am really happy with the portrait mode. versus the Samsung version.
Well, at least Pixel Fold’s internal screen does not have an invasive camera cut hole. That is a plus point for me.
Watching this on my Pixel Fold, I'll upgrade to the Pixel 9 Fold or whatever it's going to be called
Same!!! I can't wait for preorders for the Pro Fold. I hope they keep the mini Ring camera housing like on the Pixel 9 Pro for the Pro Fold.
What keyboard is at 4:42?
Mine doesn't open flat, it sucks so bad. I hardly use it open as a result. The Zfold outer was rubbish, but open its awesome.
Can't we just nail it?
I have a z fold 5 and I really want to upgrade to a pixel fold 2 of the specs are decent. I want to put graphene OS on it.
They need to add pop up windows and i'd be happy. Apart from missing the stylus.
Could you please tell me the stand and keyboard used here 0:55
Looks like the "Thinkoutside Stowaway Bluetooth keyboard" from the early 2000s
I always like the phone I am using until Jaime points out the negatives and then I can never unsee them
As soon as I think I’d like a foldable, I see one up close and change my mind.
I've been using a Samsung Fold4 for a year and a half now and I'm sold on the concept. Not necessarily on Samsung specifically, but I'll probably never go back to a non-foldable phone. I can see why they wouldn't be for everyone, though.
@@thexa7q I get that. The concept of a phone and tablet in one sounds great! But the permanent crease on the screen, the chunkier form factor when folded, and lack of a good media watching screen would really bug me. I’m holding out to see if Apple ever decides to finally “perfect” the foldable before I’d risk the expense of buying one AND changing ecosystems! Lol… I changed from android back in 2017, and I’m not ready to go back yet.
Music files in the phone was normal years before smartphones was the standard and iPhones and Androids excisted.
Man I just cannot deal with the creases in these foldable screens.
I dont care about the weight personally, reslly enjoying the thing.
I am watching this on my pixel fold and I would say that the only issue I have ever run into with this phone is the aspect ratio. I would definitely recommend it if you were to get it at a discount if not I don't think the fold two is too far away.
It's on sale right now for about $1,200. Do you think that's a good price for it?
Omg! An After the Buzz segment!! ❤
The tall and super narrow aspect ratio isn't enjoyable to use unless you like to endlessly scroll. typing sucks, feels like the keyboard is crammed.
If you like to type the aspect on the pixel is perfect.
Bezels are great too
The Fold has only gotten better with time. The battery life has improved dramatically and the form factor is fantastic.
They really need to get the price and weight down though.
Killer T-Shirt!! 😃🙂👍❤
I'll be honest, I've owned the SFold3 and the biggest issue I had was the tall design. It was bad for app optimization, some apps would not function correctly or would not be fully functional unless in split view. And the tall design on the outside made it so apps were just almost usable on the outer screen. I loved the multitasking, no other phone on the market can touch it. But in all honestly I think the passport design is a 1000x better not only for app optimization but for media consumption and for multitasking.
At the time of release, the price, boarders and lack of AOSP support lost me. I hate Google and I try to de-Google every Android I own.
Needs: even bezels, better battery, cheaper price, more included in the box, proper car mount, slot for a stylus, wireless charging, headphone jack, expandable storage.
Shame if they move away from this design. This aspect ratio is the best for any phone foldable or not.
I hope the pixel 2 is the same but with improvements.
I have a Galaxy fold 4 and plan to switch to the Pixel fold 2 (if they make one) because of the passport style design. I want to be able to use the outside screen. As it is on my Fold 4 I almost always open the thing up to type because of how narrow the outside screen is. If I don't I just make way to many mistakes typing on the tiny keyboard.
they changed the passport style design for the pixel fold 2. looks narrow like other foldables now =(
Well I was thinking everything sounds great and I should get it... until I realized the battery life part wasn't in the review. That was the big criticism.
I like Pixel Fold display aspect ration and size. It's very usable with one hand unlike Microsoft Surface Duo that is too wide or Samsung Fold that is too narrow and tall.
I own the Pixel Fold since launch. Can't freaking wait for the Z Fold 6 to trade in.
Am in the same boat. It was bad decision moving from Z Fold 3 to Pixel Fold. Waiting to go back.
@@srsgonu literally my same situation. Should've kept the Z Fold 3 for at least one or two more years. At the very least, the Z Fold 6 will have that beautiful "executive" blue Sammy used to have back in the day
@@VictorHernandez-cz1be what are the things which made you regret having the pixel fold?
@@faisalratul8778 long story short: small, somewhat inconvenient software quirks that, in a vacuum, seem insignificant; but when considering that Google MAKES Android, and the frequency of said quirks, it just becomes exasperating.
I'm pretty sure that anyone that's in the same boat as me also skipped the first Z Fold waiting for Sammy to iron out "1st Gen Quirks". Google had been working on the Pixel Fold for at least a good 2 years, are the ones that developed Android, and are aware of everything that Samsung and other foldables are doing; so it's frustrating the amount and frequency of the small, insignificant issues. The frustration piles up.
Did not have the same experience with the Z Fold 3, and I had that phone for a whole 2 years before trading in
I love my pixel fold. I have the OnePlus open and I used to have the Galaxy z fold 4. For me, the pixel fold is the better software experience. I love the form factor. I love how the outer screen has the perfect dimensions to use in the portrait mode, but then when you open it it becomes a tablet in landscape mode. The other phones are just portrait mode expanded when you open to the main screen. I'm not a real real big fan of that. I hate the fact that Google is going to change the form factor to make it look more like the OnePlus open. As far as the apps are concerned, they did fix it where you could change the aspect ratio for full screen. And I don't really have that many issues with how the apps look. But then again, I'm not really that picky. One of my gripes with this phone is that the battery life stinks and the charging speeds are horrible. But other than that I love the device.
Hey! How long have you had your Pixel Fold??? The battery learns your charging habits & adjusts to how you charge. I've had no issues with keeping mine charged. I will add, earlier this week, my fold died so, I plugged it in. After a bit, it was 100%. Unplugged & powered on. It was only charged 54%!!! I don't know what that glitch was all about.
How is the pixel fold cameras compared to Oneplus Open?
@@cruisycai one year.
@@faisalratul8778 video is better on the OnePlus. Still photos are better on the pixel fold.
I personally found the Pixel Fold too wide, and it made holding in one hand more difficult. I find the OnePlus Open to have the best balance between the Pixel Fold and at that time, the Z Fold 5.
Where can I get that wallpaper from the thumbnail?
yes
I’ve said from day one that Apple will open the floodgates for app optimization, once they finally join the party. Samsung isn’t moving the needle with foldables. Six years later, and it’s still a niche device.
Great video!
Last month I switched to a Pixel Fold from a Samsung Z Fold 3. I can only say massively positive things about the pixel. Having used my Fold 3 for 3 years, I had obviously gotten used to the way the outer screen felt, and Long forgotten what it felt like to use a slab phone. Just from a tactile standpoint, the pixel fold blows the Samsung out of the water, it feels so safe and secure in the hand. My primary uses of a foldable are RUclips, and the camera. The Pixel Fold does this better than any other phone in it's class in my honest opinion!
If Google adopts the One Plus form factor with the Pixel software... GAME OVER
I want the outer screen like a big phone. Samsung should have two versions the regular and a wider screen like a normal big phone.
Lack of competition is why the pixel fold and fold from sammy are not pushing the envelope in terms of cameras, battery and thinness the way chinese foldables are. Granted sammy does have the best fold software followed by oneplus open.
Nonetheless i like the size of the pixel fold i just wish for the second one they would have kept the size made it thinner, lighter with a snapdragon soc instead
Gosh you guys have been going for yrs ❤ well done
I picked up the Fold only last month. A bit of a late adopter. My later build seems to fold open flatter and the crease doesn't seem as pronounced as it looks in a lot of review units. It might just be my unit. I honestly prefer the landscape inner screen.
Got one a couple of weeks ago for 1000 dollars and I am quite happy with it (coming from a pixel 7pro). Not really an upgrade but wanted to try the foldable life.
Watching on my pixel phone. Love this thing and find myself using the front screen more than often

I don't need a phone with massive compute power. Tensor G2 is more than adequate for me. The P-Fold for me is a great folder. I love the aspect ratio and build quality and do love the weight. The tall and narrow fad isn't for me. Plus being a pixel = pretty damn good camera. Probably won't get P-Fold 2 since they are going with the tall/narrow form factor.
Too overpriced too fragile Lacks too much
Yikes you bought a big azz jutterbug
@@DENVEROUTDOORMAN It's no less fragile than any other folder? I've got a Zfold 5 and OnePlus open as well. Doesn't really lack all that much. Is different in how things are done. By your logic, every folder is over priced and fragile. I will say, folders are over priced compared to normal slabs. But if that's an argument used as a con, then a folding phone isn't for you lol. Even now, folders aren't for the average phone user. They are for people who love new tech and form factors, and for that you pay a literal price.
Great Jaime.... very accurate and coming from a user since day 1 I still love it. Having said that.... I still drive a Duo2 as well. Hate that Google is not going back to that aspect ratio. I appreciate all your work. Thanks
This was for sure a test device to gage interest. They new content creators would shove it down our throats, Marquess did for sure and on his podcast struggled and made excuses to keep using a phone he didn’t really enjoy. I wanted to dive into it, but a $1,799.99 for a device that has a $499.99 device chip; no thanks
The slow battery charging killed this phone for me, 20 min in the car for it to light up to 1 % ugh No go with the one plus .
I still havent hear of anyone i know who has the fold that actually has an issue with the narrow screen. Myself included. And I have over 10 friends, colleagues, and clients who own the 3, 4, or 5. Its a one handed device when closed. Thats an advantage. Need more screen? Open it...
I have a z fold 4, and it's hard to like the narrow screen. Typing is quite inaccurate. It is ALMOST one-handed: the caveat being the upper corner is unreachable anyway. So it's kinda NOT :)
It's too delicate and expensive to use for me. It also doesn't have the thing that separate Android from Apple, micro SD.
Tensor g2
I like how you say your name
I still just want a normal Pixel in the form factor of the Pixel Fold. Just rip the front screen off and give it to me Google.
the pixel fold is still the best foldable ever released
Who here recommends this fold still July 2024? I'm considering it since it's only (ONLY haha) $1,299 now. I really like the form factor and need a newer phone anyways since my camera on my P7 Pro is dying.
i just got the pixel fold a week ago, sold my pixel8 for it. i love it so far. it feels so nice in hand. i had the surface duo 2 so the weight does not bother me. the form factor is perfect. easy to use one hand and can fold open when i want it to. while it may be a downgrade in terms of chip from the p8, i havent noticed any huge performance difference. it doesn't feel slower or sluggish to me. but then again its only been a week. i also bought it for a great price, it was open box.
Ha’,… My days of spending over $500 for a smartphone is over!
I don't like how the phone don't lay fully flat when it's folded open.
No foldable does, unfortunately, and they won't so long as companies keep sticking camera humps on the back.
@@nickthaskaterno, it has nothing to do with the camera bump, the hinge does not open the inner display to 180 degrees, Samsung, OnePlus and other foldables do
@@handyhistorian it does if you give it a bit of force once you get to the "soft" open angle of 178 degrees. Regardless, they will all rock around on a flat surface and cannot lay flat as a result of their camera humps.
I have used one for a year and if you want them to lay flat it does easily. I suspect Google designed it to not fully open to preserve the life of the hinge and display and that most people will be holding it like a book.
What makes it better is stock android, if you like the IOS eco the only thing better is stock android, Samsung is great but always in a fight when it comes to what apps to use on your device instead of working together

Whatever Google will do with the new Pixel Fold, they need to do something about that inner bezel, it's disgusting and make the phone look cheap. If it was to a cehap alternative to the competitors (a sub 1000 dollars Pixel Fold A), then whatever, but at this price range, no. Shame because everything else is great when it comes to looks, a truly beautiful desing when it's folded.
Nine of the Samsung foldable last for me durability wasn't there definitely getting pixel fold

Google's Tensor processor is objectively inferior to Snapdragon, and the performance isn't even close. Not sure why anyone would pick the Pixel Fold unless you really really prefer the form factor (even then it's a hard sell)
I still buy digital audio players. It's worse quality and a pain in the ass using a phone. For me anyway.

Didn't kill the mp3 player. It killed CHEAAP MP3 players for a time. Removing the headphone jack from phones brought those back while more expensive MP3 players never went anywhere and I'm not talking about the iPod. I'm talking about those that can drive planars. I have a phone with the headphone jack and though it works fine with my cheap iems it can barely drive my Audio Technica MSR7 or my closed back Sundaras.

Can't recommend another Pixel phone until Tensor is made by TSMC, instead of based on a Samsung chip. The chips are so inferior. Literally worse in every way than what's coming from Qualcomm or even Mediatec. Hopefully Pixel 10 series will have chips from TSMC. Devices that have worse reception, get hotter, and have worse battery life, and are much less powerful, should not cost nearly as much as Pixels do.
