I prefer the Pixel 8 Pro over the iPhone 15 Pro Max. The software is so good and the way Android works is so much easier than iOS. The processor is great and 95% of people will never use it to full capacity so its not a concern. It feels so much smoother than the iPhone.

The one thing most reviewers forget to mention is the reliability of the point and shoot capabilities of a phone. The biggest killer feature of the Pixel phones. I'm one of those people who buy several flagships every year, but always end up back with the Pixel for its reliable camera. Having kids and pets, no other phone will reliably get me those pics I want every single time, no matter the lighting conditions.

Upgrade from Tensor G3 to G4 is barely an upgrade at all. With G3 you get Snap 888+ level of performance, which is quite enough, even though it's not at all a gaming phone. The cameras are great too: all of them have autofocus, main one is 1/1.31" which is surprisingly big and you also get a great 120mm telephoto, as well as a okay-ish ultrawide. All of that for 550+ usd rn.

I want to want a pixel, I love the google camera system and I want to break out of the apple ecosystem. But for me One UI is just better as an operating system, more customisability, more of what I want. Battery life is just ok, and it's slow, compared to snapdragon.

  • @Pozzibilitiiz

Agreed, I have owned every Pixel. But the 8 really showed me they're not serious about making competitive hardware. It's a software first scenario, and everyone else has caught up at this point. Tensor and other hardware lacks, and the unique software lead they had has diminished over the years. We will see if they really put up or shut up on the Pixel 10 next year.

I like the 8 pro much more than the 9 pro. It just looks and feels better imo. The side of the 9 pro is similar to the iphones and bit of the slab that doesn't feel good to hold. The edges dig into your hands and doesn't feel comfortable like the 8 pro. Also the 8 pro looks a like nicer. The 9 pro chrome sides and glossy finish makes it look out dated and tacky. Some may like that look, but the blue 8 pro is the winner for me.

I've had the 8 Pro since December and I have loved it. I do think that 128GB base storage for a "Pro" phone is unreasonable, especially when I got through half of it in 3 months from video and photos alone. Basing a phone's SoC purely on benchmarking is rather dismissive seeing that nobody is really pushing their phone's performance 24/7. Plus it omits the day-to-day usage where it spends many hours doing nothing besides calls, texts, RUclips and social media. I have had mine record, edit and render 4K video via PowerDirector and other than slight heat, there were no issues with it. A Pixel isn't trying to be a powerhouse like Apple, Samsung or Xiaomi. It endeavours to be good at what its made for. Google made a big deal about Video Boost, but by default it is turned off and I have forgotten it even exists. Also Google... where the hell is Zoom Enhance??

This "After the Buzz" series is good, keep them coming. However, I do disagree a little with the assessment. Pixel phones, including the Pro, are still cheaper than other flagships; the price often drops which makes them even cheaper. Pixels are usually a better value, their performance is great in everyday life regardless of benchmarks, and my experience so far has been even better than when I was using a Samsung flagship. Sure, the display could be better, but it is still good. I always get compliments on pictures and videos I take. Even data transfer over Quick Share is surprisingly good, and fast.
Even at full retail price Pixels are cheaper than the competition and arguably they are the better buy; greater value.
