  • Dream has become RUclips's most controversial creator that never does anything. Seriously, Dream is one of the most polarizing individuals online, with a pile of accusations. From cheating, to blackmail, to even some questionable messages with kids, Dream has a lot tied to his name. So, let's unpack of the drama behind Dream's name.
This video is a retrospective on the history of Dream's drama, with particular focus on his most recent response video, "The Truth".

People need to realize that you can just not like someone. Like you don’t have to justify not liking a creator. However, you do not get to lie about creators being groomers because that is extremely serious.

    • @northstarjakobs
      @northstarjakobs 4 месяца назад +300

There's a very real tendency for people to feel like if they dislike something it has to be for a really serious reason and not just the fact that sometimes you just don't like something. If you don't like a creator, it has to be because they're a terrible person. Sometimes, you just don't like someone for petty reasons. Sometimes, you just don't like someone for no real reason at all, and that's ok.

Unfortunately they do get to do so. The internet has very little accountability right now so things like swatting, and false allegations get thrown around without any repercussions. I think that the fact people are so willing to believe accusations against him just because they don't like him doesn't bode well, especially with AI making it easier to fake content of any person and apparently people being gullible as hell. The issue is that he can't really. He wants to, but defamation on the US is extremely hard to sue for; you need to prove that a) a specific person or entity defamed you b) that that defamation cost you a specific amount of money c) what that specific amount of money is and d)that they intended to cost you that specific amount of money.
It's the last point that's hardest, since they were probably actually doing it for clout, not money reasons.
Since all of them claimed they were going to take legal actions against /him/ his lawyers told him to wait so that they could counter-sue, /that/ would be where legitimate and doable legal action could take place. But obviously that never happened.

Every single time I see people discredit Dream’s evidence when the guy is essentially proving himself innocent, I keep thinking about the internet as a whole. They’re after him because he’s Dream, and I really just want to say “if you want to get mad at a Minecraft RUclipsr who’s actually guilty, may I direct your attention to Illumina?”
These people don’t care about victims. They care about hurting someone and destroying a career. Even Dream himself acknowledged how this will hurt other real victims in the future.
My father is a lawyer, and he ended up digging into the controversy because he got curious. One thing he told me is “if someone isn’t putting their name on it, they don’t have any stake in it. As hard as it is for victims to come forward, they need to put themselves out there and have the proof ready.”
These allegations would never hold up in a court of law, and there should be consequences for this. False allegations are permanently going to stick with him and his name. It sucks knowing he’s innocent and his career has taken a permanent hit from some people who were more insane than the crazy stans everyone talks about.

Im not a fan by any means but hearing about a "groomer" that still wasnt removed from the platform got me doing a little research and finding literally no proof at all. Thats when I saw that this is one of those cases where someone just throws an accusation around and the internet rolls with it. And THEN I found out hes literally only 24. Early adulthood, the time where you still figure things out. And yet the entire internet just runs with every accusation because they dont like him. And why is that? Not because hes actually a groomer, or a criminal, or a bad person. Just because hes weird, made a few stupid comments and because he isnt desirable or hot (after the face reveal)?
People need to get a life and leave this guy alone. He literally did nothing wrong (as far as we know until now) other than saying a few things that some people didnt like. Its all about "mental health matters" until you get to bully someone you dont know personally. This could literally destroy his mental wellbeing entirely and the internet wouldnt even care. I am BAFFLED how they put so much effort into badmouthing a random guy rather than going after those who ACTUALLY deserve to lose their platform for doing horrible things. Why? Because its trendy. Yall are just jumping on the bandwagon to feel SOMETHING other than your own boredom and loneliness it seems. Find a hobby and touch some grass. This is a great example of why bullying people DOES NOT and will not work. Most importantly, unlike many like to suggest, it never worked. Dream is weird. Being weird isn't a crime. You don't have to like weird, hell you can even hate weird if you're really that boring of a person, but there's nothing inherently wrong with solely being weird. Let's not act like it's a conscious choice he's making. Dude's just bein who he is; your reaction to that is YOUR problem and YOUR problem only.
People say they support those with mental illnesses until they start to show the symptoms of said illness. People say they want equality until that means they have to tolerate people they don't like for whatever reason, whether it be ablelism, racism, homophobia, sexism, you name it. People say they want freedom until they realize that would mean everyone else is free to do what they please as well. Point is, people say things they don't have any assemblence of an understanding about just because they hear other's say it and then they just run with it as a fact at face value because that's what they see other people doing. They don't think, they just speak. These are the worst kinds of people. Moral of the story: Don't be this type of person; they're stupid. Do whatever the fuck you want, be whoever the fuck you are, and don't let idiots stop you from doing something they're too afraid to do.

To support Nicolas, when he was clearly not in the right mindset, was wrong. To do all these things, just because you don't like him? Absolutely the lowest of lows.
I begun watching Dream since his peak in 2020, and still come back to his content from time to time. And to come back to this was such whiplash. But I'm glad he stood up for himself and shot down all these accusers. Yes, he may not be as adept in online navigation as others, but I'll be damned if he didn't mean well. What he spoke about was truly brave of him to do, and we all respect that.
Thank you for the recap, Jimmy, and cheers to everyone here who wasn't these foolish haters. Y'all are the real ones, fr.

I do not understand this wide sweeping opinion that dream is weird. He seems like an exceedingly normal 20-something year old guy and yet everyone that talks about him is like “the only thing he’s guilty of is being weird!” Like sorry, do weird people play one of the most popular games in the world, wear football jerseys, use social media and play pop rock music? That’s what kids are calling weird these days??? I just don’t see it lol

Like 2016 reacting to 'cringe' cruel, except these creators hide behind leftist views and a 'don't send hate to this person' disclaimer, instead of just owning the toxicity (like old commentators used to do, not saying they were any better though).
A good example was that couple doing a 'love rush', which was very 'cringy' and hard to watch. They were full on bullied by commentary channels, who then reacted to a video of the tiktoker in question crying about it, only to laugh and try to diminish her upset.

I used to be a pretty big Dream fan and dropped out of the fandom when Amanda posted her accusations. I did feel at least unsettled enough that I didn't want to subject myself to the anxiety of it all, that I left the fandom. While I do think that leaving the fandom was good for me in general (even as a non-active lurker) because they do have a tendency of being...very rabid, I can confirm your observations that people just fucking ran with any story. The stuff you mentioned in the video doesn't even scratch the surface of stuff he has gotten shit for over the years, that was either blown wildly out of proportion or extremely exagerated. He did have a tendency of reacting badly to criticism, but the sheer amount of shit he got literally all the time, was genuinly absurd.
I kind of don't blame Dream stans for being kinda cultish because it genuinly felt like no matter what you, did people kept just straight up make shit up to be mad about and you had to defend him in the face of people willing to believe literally every bad thing ever said about him.
I'm not saying all criticism was without merit, like i said, he was pretty shit at reacting to stuff sensibly and he did say some pretty thoughtless shit over the years, but the level of vitriol wasn't justified.
I ended removing myself from the whole environmemt of the fandom pretty forcefully when the allegations came out because I did believe Amanda and I've been avoiding anything to do with dream for pretty much months because it genuinly felt like detoxing from a cult-ish environment.
This video is the first time, pretty much since the allegations dropped, that I actively tried to inform myself about the situation and I was fully prepared for this to be a damning expose of all the shit dream has ever done, so I was genuinly surprised when I saw the title. I generally trust your coverage of a situation to be pretty fair and to do your research, so you making a dream friendly video is the most compelling argument for him i've seen in a while. I absolutely refused to force myself through the sludge of public opinion.
I can only say, that your observation of dream being a weird guy, who's bad with criticism and who gets a lot of shit for basically nothing, matches my experiences of witnessing those situations while i was a fan before the allegations dropped.

as someone who's been following him since 2021, it's so refreshing to finally see someone use their critical thinking skills when it comes to his controversies. he's ass at PR and i don't think his approach with handling his fanbase is all that great, but he's far from the manipulative, sinister and evil person the internet wants him to be so they can have a reason to hate him. hate him because he's cringe! hate him because of his cheating, and hate him because of the way he handles his fanbase! hate him because you just don't like his vibes!! there's no need to make shit up so you can sit on your moral high horse and pretend to be a warrior for issues you clearly don't care about!
being a fan of the guy this past year has been hell, because while there exists a massive amount of bias in his favour, a large portion of fans looked really deeply into the situation to make sure they weren't supporting a groomer. i was one of them, and i like in the video, i came to the conclusion that i wasn't given any reason to believe the claims, and i was given multiple reasons to not believe them.
regardless, i sat back and watched as hundreds of people said to fans that were victims of grooming and sexual abuse that they were "too old" for him, and that "they were next." thousands of disgusting comments targeting real victims. the past year has made it incredibly clear that this was never about supporting victims, it was just about supporting whatever to ensure dream's downfall.

Man do I know nothing about much less care about Dream but Twitter seems to think I do. As an unbiased observer, this very much feels like bullying in the current day. It’s not enough to simply clown on someone because you don’t like them anymore. You need to justify it! Perhaps they said a slur or they are the worst kind of person that no one would defend if true. Well is it true? I don’t know that’s now for the accused to prove. It just kind of sucks man!
I feel like every content creator has a reputation and once it’s in the red like sharks people pounce. The Completionist had a good reputation it took a while for the accusation to hit even when he admitted to it and would have gotten out just fine had he apologized with no legal action threatened. Meanwhile, Dream had the Minecraft cheating scandal and let’s not forget his most vocal audience are like young girls right? Historically things young girls like are made fun of, dismissed and called stupid.
The reason RUclipsrs are speaking out against this stuff is the internet is fickle. Dream is the target now but what happens when he is off the menu? Got to find a new target right? One misstep or cringey moment and congratulations you are now on the menu. It’s dangerous! What’s funny is if Dream did the unimaginable because of these allegations how many of these people would quickly change their tune. Like I said the internet is fickle and tomorrow if you are a creator you can be on the menu.

A 3 year age gap is definitely not a big or creepy one, but the maturity gap between a person in their late teens and a person in their early twenties is the actual problem. I've had classmates who - at age 19 themselves - dated 14 y/o or below. THAT is no question p*dophilic behaviour. 20 and 17? Never would call that p*dophilic but it can cause issues regarding power dynamics, especially if the 17 y/o is still in school and the other person starts out with "the real life" lol ^^

@@cooraaYeah, it depends too on the country because in my country, you get into college when you were 15. So you see these 15 year olds in the same college as a bunch of 18-20 year olds and they are all in somewhat the same situation where they are getting stressed with school and has no job yet. Although in my experience, it was usually a 17 and a 19-20 year old being in a relationship and when the older one graduates, they helped the younger one pay for college. There could be an argument that the older one must not pay for the younger one since they would be beholden to you and thus creating a power dynamic, but living in a 3rd world country, thats kinda a blessing. That ultimately comes back to the statistics where poorer countries have couples that have higher age gap, because whether we like it or not, survival sometimes hinges on one of the couple being in a more stable situation.
In the end, I dont want to judge couples that have large age gaps, but I will definitely judge someone who dates someone 15 below as a new adult in the western world. 20 below if the other party is in their 30's. And 14 below in the poorer nations.

Dream used proof that COULD be proven wrong easily IF it werent true, and yet, jamies description only echos the meaaage in that video, so how much can you really doubt it? What would he have had to do to make that quote provable when she doesnt WANT to be included, record her voice, or make her acct public to make a statement?

@@LimeG0ds I’m not saying she couldn’t have written it, I’m just saying there’s a chance she didn’t and I understand why he chose not to use actual proof that she wrote it to help keep her more anonymous. It’s just things to think abt
Regardless I think the “evidence” that she was groomed was lacking regardless, so whether or not it’s real there’s no other evidence she was acctly groomed
In the end, whether it’s real or not, I don’t think he groomed anyone, at least anyone who’s “come out”

I don’t have Instagram so I have to ask, if you block someone do they know they’re blocked? Maybe that’s why Dream didn’t block because if Dream did block them then they would be crying about being blocked.

31:51 no, some people were sharing it as if the evidence was real. I couldn't tell who was just trolling, or conducting their own social experiment and who was actually dumb enough to believe it, but it proved Dream's point, for sure.

Thank you for breaking this down in an easy-to-understand way. I have watched Critical's video but still didn't really understand what the hell was even going on and the last I had heard of dream was his face reveal when everyone called him ugly and said he kind of looked like Mac Tonight. Poor guy, he's just an awkward kid who wanted to play minecraft on stream. I'm the mother of a little girl and that part about his mom getting swatted bc she thought it was the pizza for she and his little sister hit me hard. 😢

Great video! There are other commentary youtubers spreading misinformation even after the dream video and claimed to have watch it. RUclipsrs like Drama Kween still call him a groomer.

i did watch the full video and i think you did an amazing job summarizing it and commentating. it's genuinely embarrassing how many people will spread things off of secondhand information while never checking the "evidence" for themselves

It is wild to me that open police investigations are public knowledge in Florida. It seems dangerous to let a potential perpetrator walk into a police department and get a full report of the allegations.

i waited months to watch this video. i used to be a fan of dream (mostly george tbh), but stopped after being retraumatized multiple times by the repeated (allegedly false) allegations of sexual misconduct involving minors. honestly my interest in him and his content was the result of a hyperfixation during the darkest times of my life, i had no say in how much interest i had and how emotionally involved i was. for a really really really long time i wasn't even able to read or watch anything about dream including defenses or critiques of him, both logical and emotionally driven. i feel a really odd mixture of relief and upset to see that a lot of the evidence points in his favor, that people were lying about something so serious. it feels weird to say that being a fan of him in online spaces was a (re)traumatizing experience, but... it was. i'll be working through a lot of problems rooted in my time in that fandom in therapy for years to come. either way, thank you for making this video. based on your previous videos i feel like i can trust you to take a nuanced approach based in seeking truth and basic human empathy, something that is Sorely lacking on the internet these days
edit: to be clear, i was an adult the entire time i was a fan and didn't really interact with any other fans directly

Dream should ABSOLUTELY take legal action against this person. These are SERIOUS allegations and make it harder for REAL victims. These people even if they are young should have real consequences. This is NOT ok. I don't think this should be brushed off or normalized. He should take ALL the legal action he can against them. period. These are allegations that should be taken seriously and playing games like this is SO damaging to real victims and good decent people. If we don't have consequences and set real standards , this is going to get out of hand and many real victims will be ignored.

It would be interesting if you did one of these on Pro Jared; at first glance, it's a very similar case and particularly the outcome (a response from the accused with several "receipts" that disproves everything)

  • @dreamon8274

The thing about dream "not responding well to criticism" i don't get at all, because he literally responded in the best way possible. And it wasn't just "criticism", it was slander, defamation, swatting, and other stuff that he had to deal with, all in the span of a year. And however much it appears that he cares way too much about what random people online think about him, its actually the complete opposite. He's actually pretty indifferent to alot of the hate he receives(stuff about him being cringe or ugly or weird), you would know that if you were one of his viewers. Because he knows who he is, and they don't. So no, he handled the situation pretty well imo, and alot better than many other people could have.
