Thanks so much for this video - very helpful. I'm thinking about getting one of these to use as a home Linux server. In 2023, they're dirt cheap!!!

@@TheAustralianUnderground Nice! It's difficult finding the i7 model... Still looking. I now have one with the Intel i5, but it only has 2 cores / 4 threads. I'm thinking about upgrading the CPU to the 4 core / 8 thread Intel i7, or just getting a mini-PC with the Ryzen 7 5700u (or even Ryzen 7 5800H), both of which have 8 cores / 16 threads... 🤔. I need something quite beefy as it will be running Jenkins and a bunch of automated front-end Selenium tests (in parallel - the more cores, the faster the tests run). I'll get another for my Gitolite repositories, Samba file share, run WireGuard and OpenVPN, and to host my Wordpress blog etc... Will probably just roll with Fedora...

Nice, but I would note that you are not supposed to smear the thermal compound around like that. It could result in the formation of bubbles, causing incomplete coverage. You should put a drop of it in the middle of the surface and let the force of the screws press it out.

@@brun0re1s You need to use an i7-6700T processor that operates at the supported 35W. You'll still have 4 cores like the i5, but you'll have 8 threads instead of 4. Those processors can be found for between 80 and 120 bucks on ebay.

  • @davidruzzo5806

I noticed that you replaced an i5 6500t, which is a low power, 35watt TDP processor, with an i7 6700, which is a high power, 65watt TDP processor. I also noticed that you have the same 35watt TDP system as I have. Did the 65watt TDP processor work in the 35watt TDP system? If so...this is an amazing thing because normally a 35watt TDP system will only work with a low power TDP processor, the one that ends with (t). If this worked for you please let me know as I too would like to upgrade my 35watt system with a higher TDP processor. Thank you...
