Great video Cole!
You are definitely a natural I love the vibe and how your story telling just flows. That desk looks good as new 👍
( thanks for the shoutout as well that was very kind 😊)
Thank you, I appreciate your lovely feedback :) And no worries, I look forward to trying your recommendation in the future!
from across the pond. Yes I had a desk like the original tandum for my first two years of elementary school '54-55. 40 years later the inkwell holder would be for PC cables. No scoop well for pencils or roll stop, only 6 sided pencils approved. My desk mate Joe Matos, a local artist in many mediums, just passed. Thanks for the memories. Narragansett Bay
That antique pine stain is lovely! Much nicer than paint washes.
I am 72 yrs old and I want to go back to school and sit at this desk!!!!
Bless you, I bet it feels like yesterday!
You refinished that desk beautifully! Over here in the states I sat at wood and iron desks/chairs in the older school buildings I attended in the 1960s. The schools dated to the 1914-1919 time period. Those desks also had an attached hinged wooden seat that was contoured, which made it a little more comfortable than a flat seat. Actually, I thought the classrooms had a warmer feel to them with the old style furnishings.
Another beautiful transformation under your belt. It has been lovely watching your channel grow along with Sonny (who is the most handsome baby on RUclips!) It is also nice to see your darling wife with you enjoying the delights of the UK.
Thank you, I appreciate your continued support :) I can't wait to tell Sonny you think he is the most handsome baby on youtube, I think so too ;)
I remember these exact desks in ireland, in primary school, in the 80s. There always seemed to be chewing gum stuck on underneath. 😆
I also remember the school selling them off for 5 Irish pound for the single ones, or 10 for the double ones. Lots weren’t sold and just thrown away. 😔
Great job with this transformation. 👏🏻👏🏻
I remember the chewing gum! I was pleased I didn't have to pick any off this piece! Sad they just got thrown away :( Thank you very much for watching!
I love watching you bring these pieces back to life…. Cameos of your son….. and just have to say… your wife is beautiful…. but, gotta say…. I’m in LOVE with that ring your wife is wearing… Thanks for another great resto….
Thank you very much :) The ring - I think you are talking about her Smoky Quartz, it was handed down on her mums side I believe. She gets lots of compliments on it, it is a beautiful piece!
Hey Kiwi. I found you on the MCM challenge. I liked your work so much that I had to come back for more. So I subscribed as not to miss anything you post.
Awesome! Thank you! The MCM has definitely brought in a few more subscribers, very grateful :)
Oh! That's what you meant by running a torch over it. I didn't understand, at first, your meaning of torch.
Thank you for showing that part.
You do VERY good work!
Really like the simple finish you used on this desk, probably a close to true rendering of the original color scheme for these daily work desks.😊
Thank you very much! Exactly what I was going for :)
Coll little desk 👻
Oh yeahhhh! 1958 thru to 1963 in primary and then a couple of years at high school. Not built for comfort by any means! And thank goodness most of us were on the small side! Those poor chubby kids were really uncomfortable, besides the bullies pestering them about their weight! Oh I’m so glad those days are over! But I’m sure your little boy will love playing around in your lovely new (looking) school desk! Good job Cole. Keep at it.❤️🦘
Oh yes, i remember! Great job!
Thank you :)
Very Nice! I have an old school desk. But it's chrome metal and hard stone type of material for the desk and seat. And I brought years ago 1965 Onedia Silverware set ❤ love old stuff ❤
I had a later model, 1960s style. In elementary school, ours had inkwells
I am trying to track down an ink well to add to this one. Thank you for watching!
Good job. Very nice. I sat at a desk similar to that one when I went to school. Thank you for sharing. 😊
Sah-weeet makeover, Cole.
I didn't sit at a desk exactly like this one but, I did sit at one equally as torturous! I'm certain that they were made that way to keep us from getting comfortable at any time...EVER. Hahaha!
I love the fact that they still have the hole in the top for an ink well. Too bad it's not a little bit bigger. You could use it for a water bottle!
I enjoyed seeing you and your beautiful family. Sonny is most definitely your child!
Stay safe, happy and healthy my friend! 🥰🤗🤟
So uncomfortable - no chance of falling asleep in class! Thank you very much for your kind words, we appreciate it. Look after yourself :)
I loved seeing all the great things at the sale, and th pub too.
Nice job saving a cool old desk.
(After watching the video you put out today, I will watch all of your ads for you. 😀)
We didn’t have ones exactly like that, but similar. Ours have elaborate iron work and were bolted to the floor.
Gorgeous restoration! Thanks so much for sharing
Thanks for watching!
That looks good enough to have in a home.
Thank you :)
Really beautiful work, great narration, and I love seeing your family as well. Hello from Chicago, Illinois.
What a comeback!! And yes last video was CRAZY!! I did sit at a desk like this & a tandem one also. Hoping all is well Bud, Dirty Jersey out!!
I live in Australia, and when I was in primary school in the early 70s we had similar desks to this. I remember the holes for the ink wells, but as we no longer used them some enterprising manufacturers had made cylindrical pencil cases which fit perfectly in the hole. All the cool kids had the ones that looked like a big pencil
Beautiful job. I did sit at one of those desks in primary school.
Hell yes, I sat in one of these! Hi from South Africa❤
Hello there! Thank you for tuning in!
I have always loved these desks although I have never seen one with a chair attached as well, always separate. The natural wood and black look great together. David from MAYFIELD RESTORATIONS worked on one of these desks and for the inkwell hole he bought and fitted a ceramic inkwell. I don't know if you have seen that video. Just an idea to finish it off. Great video, and another great day out for the QC 😁.
I love your videos. You are extremely talented.
I had desks like this in elementary school in the 1950's. They were old then. You lucked out with this one since most of them had initials and/or names carved into them. And then there was the dreaded CHEWING GUM.......🤣
💙💙💙💙💙💙💙💙
Another proud moment for your mum in Aotearoa 🇳🇿xxxxx
Great job. Watching this took me straight back to primary school in the early 80s.
Thank you for tuning in :)
Love it Cole ❤️ Looks great 👏🤗
Thanks so much! 😊
@@flipitnation 🤗😊
Superbly done! And yes I remember the very hard wooden seats on these desks at primary and secondary school!
Thank you very much for tuning in :)
Great work Cole. 😀👍👍
Thanks David 👍
Great to see a Kiwi making their mark on the world wide interweb. Love hearing the accent 😊
Very nice work! I probally did sit in this desk style in elementary school. A tiny shot of WD 40 on the screw heads would help loosen them.
Thank you, and yes I will get myself a can the next time I am at the hardware store!
😢 flashbacks the nuns but ur desk looks amazing now it all finished 🎉
Thank you :)
Gorgeous! I went to school in the 80s/90s and luckily we had comfortable wooden chairs but similar styled desk that open. In lovely red steel and yellow top😁. Never seen something like this.
We must be about the same age, I had a similar style desk to that also. Not quite the same colour combo though! Thank you for watching :)
I sat at one of those desk until I went to high school 😅
And you will likely never forget it! Ouch! ;)
You did a wonderful job on that desk! Em
Thank you very much :)
I did not on a desk like that!!😅 Catholic grade school
Great job!!
Thank you for tuning in!
P.S. That turned out gorgeous! I love the black! It just pops with the natural wood finish.
Thank you!
that's beautiful great job
Thank you! 😊
Great transformation well done you did good.
Thank you very much :)
What a beauty❤
Thank you :)
Love it!! Takes me back for sure. Thanks for the trip down Memory Lane.
Glad you enjoyed it :)
Really nice work.👍🏼
Thank you so much 😀
I used one of these at school, perfect job congratulations
Thank you :)
Looking good
Thanks 👍
Nice job!👍
Thank you :)
I am 67 and sat in desk like that for 12 years, very uncomfortable, the double kind were the worst as you and your mate were always elbowing each other. Great job.
Well done mate 🍻
Cheers buddy, needed a relaxed piece after the MCM challenge. Getting geared up for the next one!
Really liked the consistency of the stain you used, thicker than regular stain yet not as thick as a gel. Wonder if they have that in the states? Thanks for the neighborhood insight. Great finished piece
I think you can get some of their products in the states - Furniture Clinic Antique Pine. Thank you
LOOKS MORE NATURAL!!!
That is what I was hoping for :) Thank you
Lovely, just the white porcelain ink well missing. Sadly I was never ink monitor.
I had desks like this but they didn't have the seat. That was in infant/junior school.
Lucky, the seat is awful to sit on! Thank you for watching :)
Okay I know it would have been a lot more work to strip the legs, but I was hoping for a bare metal final look. I still love the way it came out.
I do wish I had done that to be honest. I immediately thought black legs would look good and they do. But now I think about it, bare metal would have perhaps been a bit cooler! Thank you for tuning in :)
@@flipitnationI don't know if you watch AT Restoration, but two months ago he did a chair with a bare metal base. Check it out if you're interested. Video titled "I restored a strange chair from a Russian warship."
I do watch him but missed that one, I’ll take a look. Thank you
I also found your channel on the MCM challenge and I've subscribed. Have you considered getting an ultrasonic cleaner for hardware? One guy I watch does muscle car restoration. He got an ultrasonic cleaner for around $100 USD from Harbor Freight. He's been using it for a couple of years to clean carburetors and other small parts. Sounds like a good value.
Hey, thank you for subscribing. I hadn't until you mentioned it. I will do some research, it sounds like a much more effective way to clean hardware! Thank you for the suggestion :)
I'm in North America. Beautiful restore, but what time period would this have been in?
I’d love to know how people use those in their homes. I think they’re nifty, but I don’t know what I’d do with one 🤔
Yeah Im not too sure, they certainly aren't comfortable for a kids desk to do their home work. And the sloped desk top means you can't sit a pot plant on them. Hmmm, a huge paperweight.
😂
Always good to see your videos, keep it up!
Btw, are you currently seeking any thumbnail designer.
Can I will share some previous work
Hey, send me a message via my website flipitnation.com I would be keen to see your work. Thank you
Always good to see your videos, keep it up! 🙋♂️
Btw, are you currently seeking video editors or a thumbnail designer to enhance viewers, retention, or CTR?
If yes, May I send you a previous work sample?
wow great job!! are u going to keep it for ur son or flip it? i love old furniture....i am currently stripping my dads great grandfathers pressed back capts chair from 4 layers of fozzilized lead paint..uuuggh its been a serious battle!!! i started last wkend and have gone through 3 bottles of stripper....and that only got done the seat the frt and back panels so far... !!! keep them coming!!!
Oh wow, that sounds like a huge job but good on you for giving it a go. I find chairs can be the most difficult and most time consuming. I trust you are taking all the safety measures with the lead paint - nasty stuff! I will probably move this desk on as I don't think my son will enjoy how uncomfortable it is to sit on ;)
As a fat kid,I wouldn’t have gotten past 4th Grade. 😂I attended Catholic School during the 1960s and 1970s. Our tops could raise and seats were separate. Nuns, who weaponized anything, threatened to drop on our fingers. You did a splendid job with it. Do you know if the same manufacturer built them at the same time?
Not like that one in looks but cousins in comfort! 👏👏👏🍻
The joys of school! Thank you for tuning in :)
Strange, there was no gum on the underside of the desk. There was always gum.
that came out nice. I do remember a desk similar to that but I'm in New England so it was probably a ripoff of the real England! 🤣
I am puzzled. A school desk with no one's initials carved in it?
Ok I feel stupid now 😂 why did I not realise you were in the UK not New Zealand 🤦🤦
I never had the subious pleasure of sitting at one exactly like that but very similar and they were hell 😂
Forgot to say excellent job on it looks great now...not any more comfortable but looks snazzy. I found you months ago but loved your MCM challenge
I moved to the UK from NZ about 3 months ago so you weren't too far off! Haha, no definitely not any more comfy! The MCM challenge was alot of fun, looking forward to the next challenge :) Thank you for tuning in!
No inkwell?
NVM, there it is!
When you show the after photo at the beginning of the video, I won't watch it. You obviously do tremendous work and hope the timing of your placement of the after photo changes.
But he didn’t show the afterwards photo! The yellow desk is not what he made! Just look the whole video!
