As usual, a superb restoration. David you consistently reach the very highest of standards. That grubby, shabby bench is now a piece that can proudly take its place in the very smartest of establishments. I am so pleased that there are still people around who take a pride in their work and build a reputation for honest craftsmanship. Love to gorgeous, lively Daisy.
That is a really neat old bench. It looks a lot like a church pew. That was a lot of work! You did a great job on it, I'm sure the customer absolutely loved it. ❤❤❤❤❤
I think that that are more likely to be Railways station benches. Church pews in England tend to look more Gothic or Jacobean in appearance and are much more upright.
That is an oak railway waiting room bench made by Gaskell and Chambers in Birmingham , England circa 1880 . You can see the quality built into it that made it last so long . Beautiful restoration David . Hope it lasts another 143 years .
Thanks, my customer has since told me that the benches were commissioned especially for the Snooker hall which opened in the 1920’s but may well have been made by the manufacturer you said as the snooker hall is in Stoke-on-Trent which isn’t too far from Birmingham. 😀😀👍👍
It looks like a church pew to me. :) Another miraculous restoration, full of love, care, and attention to detail. Could watch a video every day. Thank you David! XXXII could be 1932? Too late, maybe WWII significance to refinisher later?
That scraper does a great job. I need one of those! Also, I’m a retired psych nurse who suffers from recurrent depression and anxiety. Therapy is essential for most people to learn to manage both conditions ❤. And sometimes it takes a while to find a good fit in a therapist. So don’t give up if the first try doesn’t work! God bless everyone and be well 😊.
Absolutely gorgeous! Also, thanks for sharing your mental health struggles. Very helpful to destigmatize and normalize taking care of your mental health.
Thanks very much. I believe sharing experiences is essential to normalise mental health. We all have stresses to bear in todays world so it’s good to talk 😀❤️
Beautiful would love to see the 2 together when you are done. Thank you also for the mental health promo, very good to get men to talk rather than find out there was an issue after its too late. Daisy is as always a star.
Thanks so much, I actually have a few pics my customer sent me which I’ll post on my RUclips community page. Thanks also for your comments on the mental health promo, I was really happy to work with BetterHelp as talking about mental health is so important 😀🐶❤️
I really love this piece! It is so beautiful now that you've done your magic on it!! I know this took a lot of hard work.....twice!!...and I am impressed with your dedication to clean out every one of those holes! Thank you for leaving some character in the bench!! It makes it much more memorable. GREAT job!! Give Daisy an extra cork to celebrate!!
The work you do goes beyond restoration, and how to bring to life something that has been forgotten in time. Congratulations on the beautiful work and keep it up. A hug straight from Brazil
It's so nice to see furniture pieces stay in a family. There are probably a lot of stories those benches could tell, and I'm sure the owner feels very nostalgic every time he sees them. You did such an excellent job restoring them but leaving behind some evidence of It's history.
Thank you so much for sharing this beautiful bench. I think playing pool, billiards, or snooker (I didn’t know it was pronounced that way) must have been a religious experience in the UK to have such classy seating. Not that I’ve been in a pool hall here in the U.S. That was a monumental job but it is now a stunning piece. I also appreciate you talking about mental health issues and getting help. Good on you!
Thanks so much Sue, the benches certainly had a church feel to them and possibly were originally made for a church. I think talking about mental health is really important as so many people keep these things bottled up 😀❤️
What a beautiful old bench! They were smart to have you restore it and not some quick-and-easy worker. The wood and detailing are stunning. You excelled! 🌟
WOW, that's amazing ! What an unusual piece of furniture to start with, but what a job cleaning all those holes. Well done David, it looks spectacular now. A real labour of love here ! Thanks for sharing. Take care 🙂
Can’t believe you had the patience to do two of those! I’d have gone off my trolly just cleaning them. My trolly is pretty lopsided to start with lol. They are spectacular David. They just look amazing and will be quite a focal point, I’m sure. You deserve a medal for sorting those out xxxxxx
What a wonderful (if incredibly frustrating) transformation! And thank you, David, for your honesty and vulnerability in sharing your challenges and journey to mental health.
Great job - as always! The first thing I thought of when I saw all those holes full of ick was hitting it with a power washer!!! I've been watching too many youtube driveway adventures!
Another fantastic restoration! That old bench was looking drab and dreary. You brought it back to life! Beautiful job!!! Daisy girl is as spunky as ever! ❤
David, I do believe this is my favorite by far!! You have given this distinguish old gentleman his top hat and tails to sport around in. Class with grace. Sometimes a good bench or pew is like coming home. THIS IS IT!!
What a job! You did great work, and I think ghosts of some of the previous "carvings" in the wood help retain some of its historic character. Came out really great; hope your client was satisfied!
As a retired nurse, the first thing _I_ thought of, was that most of that was probably tar and gunk and was inside the lungs of the smokers... Not a pleasant thought. So glad most folks have stopped smoking! My second thought is that going forward, they're going to need an air pressure hose to regularly clean that _before_ it gets clogged with dust and skin cells, etc, so that no one else has to go through what you went through. Can't say this was my favorite of your video's David, but it again reinforces what a craftsman you are and how you thought ahead how to do this in a way that would make the bench really glow; and it does! Well done, that man!
Can't help but think that even though all that smoke and dirt almost completely crusted those legs that in some way it protected the wood underneath from nicks and gouges. Beautiful outcome!! Your patience is to be applauded!!
What a rich and meaningful history these pieces have for the owner. I respect the care you’ve taken with the refinishing of it, and with the refining of your own health. Tip of the hat to you, David. Also, Daisy needs a replenishment of corks. Clearly she has no choice bits left.
Hi David, sitting down on the job I see, Daisy with her cork in the supervisor's bed, all is right with the world, a very time consuming restoration but well worth it, you made that beautiful woodgrain visible once again, history restored, cheers!!!🥰😘💕👌👍👍👍🐕🐕
What a beautiful old bench!!!!! You have really done an excellent job!!! You can almost hear the old music and laughter from people long gone that infuse that beautiful piece of history!!!!! BRAVO!!
Hi Davide, I like that the bench has kept the signs of time. A nice job. The dog preferred the kibble from the package, he didn't take the one on the ground😄
The four hours you devoted to cleaning the crud out of the holes was worth it in my humble opinion. This is a beautiful restoration, and you kept the character of the original design. It looks so much better with the new stain and lacquer.
I thought at first it was an old pew. I don’t think they make them of this quality any more. It’s gorgeous now but what a lot work! I was thinking a drill might work and then you pulled it out. Excellent work, as usual.
Church pews in England tend to look much different to this. More Gothic or Jacobean in appearance. I would suggest that they are railway station waiting room benches.
Absolutely fantastic job as usual and the best channel on RUclips for restoration. Great job at discussing mental health too, thank you for sharing that , oh and Daisy will help keep you keep smiling and us 🙂
Wow wow wow. Such hard work but well worth it. And a beautiful piece of furniture. Give me a shout and I’ll come and clean those holes on the 2nd one!! Well done x

Beautiful restoration by the way. Love your channel.

Love the work. I’m so glad that you did restoration of the bench(es). As someone else mentioned they look like they started out as church pews.
😀❤️
Beautiful piece of furniture, Dave. Of course we appreciate how grueling it was to restore two of them, but you definitely nailed the job. Well Done! It looks amazing.
Thanks Lauren 😀❤️
