  • I just had to get my hands on this His Master's Voice Vintage Radiogram Cabinet when it popped up for free on the marketplace. I have wanted something to display my record player and vinyl for quite some time, and this piece of furniture just seemed so suitable! By far, the most fun I have had doing a restoration.. I am in love with the result of this cabinet makeover and would love to know what you think.

3:24 - Wiping away the glue. As an idea, use unfragranced baby wipes. When I decorated my flat I kept a packet of unfragranced baby wipes next to me so if I dribbled some paint I could clean it up straight away and it left no paint marks at all, be it emulsion or oil paint. I also keep a packet with my arts and crafts for the same reason. Just an idea.
Oh man, you did a fantastic job on this beautiful piece and brought it back to musical life. I can hear the warmth of jazz (my favourite music) vinyl being played on this. It's a shame the radio side couldn't be made into a cabinet of some kind but am glad you reused the glass and knobs. I think this is my favourite of yours yet.

I’m a sucker for all wooden radio cabinets especially from the 20s through about the 70s and you knocked this one outta the park. Now for your next project MacGyver, it has to be done using only a paper clip and a rubberband.

Pink Floyd Wish You Were Here
You're both right: digital music lacks a lot of what we took for granted with analogue. It cannot reproduce the layers of sound authentically, and a lot is lost. Try listening to an original recording on record - or even tape - and compare it to the sound of a digitally remastered version. Examples: Pink Floyds Wish You Were Here or Oxygen by Jean-Michel Jarre. Two ablums I know backwards and forwards and yet the original recordings are much greater depth of sound and tone, and the layering of music with instrument on instrument is so much deeper. Digital music seems to 'skim' the sounds and just pick what's prominent or on top, relying heavily on exagerated bass and low notes for depth of sound rather than the weight of the music itself. It's like Music Lite.

I would have attached those radio knobs onto potentiometers and connected the potentiometers up to a media-PC installed inside the space the radio components were in originally, probably a system geared to play internet radio and also regular radio, and then have the potentiometers set up to control various settings and selectors on the media PC. An LCD monitor could have been placed where the radio dial was, or could have instead been placed out separately on top of the cabinet and perhaps disguised as a picture frame.
That said, without the aspect of having a media device inside the cabinet, the now faux radio dial staying in place was a fine choice.

Bloody nice one, Cole! She's a beaut. Did you find a 'Made in ...' sticker or label anywhere? Curious to know if these were imported or made local. My grandfather used to work for Tisco back in the day. Hes the sort of guy who could have fixed this, but sadly, like so many who can do these repairs, he has passed on.
The only thing that made me frown was not painting the new HIS MASTERS VOICE gold. Geez lol

I sadly didn't find a sticker on the unit itself but I'll take a look on the components I took out and see if I can find anything although they may not have been made in the same place - I will let you know. Sorry to hear about your grandfather, I bet he was a fine craftsman, very hard to come by these days!

Nice job... AGAIN! 👍 You took the radio back to where it came from & the end result is beautiful. Often times, less IS more & I think that's what you were going for.
Back in the day, my cousin & her hubby used an old radio in the bathroom as a vanity. Then they used an MP3 player & a Bluetooth speaker to saves space. The area at the bottom to hold vinyl records in was turned into an area to hold bathroom stuff & clean towels. I wish I could attach a picture but I'm sure that the pic's on an old phone anyway!
    Stay safe, happy & healthy.

@@flipitnation It was a good idea. If I'm ever going through pictures on old phones I'll try to get you a copy of the radio sink. It was pretty cool because even the sink, counter top & faucet were "period". Claw foot tub, old porcelain towel racks, toothbrush & soap holder, toilet paper holder, etc...
Anywho, sorry for yacking your 👀 eyes out!
Good vibes from Southern California USA 🇺🇲❤️🤟
Those two knuckleheads & his 16 year old daughter tiled the entire kitchen in pennies. They took the birth year of family &: friends. They found pennies from that year & put them all in an area on the bar. It turned out beautiful & wait for it... I have a picture of it on one of my old phones. Hahaha!
BTW: I forgot to mention that you did a great job of keeping the radio 💯 as original as possible. It wasn't a total restoration but you did do well with the Crazy Glue & knobs.
