    Depression era desk...my sister still has her dad's. I did some restoration work on it about 30 years ago so her daughter could use it. They did have a tendency to become wobbly!

    A childsize roll-top desk is probably a lot more rare than an adult sized one, so that's a score! And I learned something new - how to make a really simple drill guide, one of those, damn, why didn't I already think of that moments...

    • @restorationrhode
      @restorationrhode  Месяц назад +5

      That’s a good point I didn’t think about how unusual a child’s roll top desk is. Also the drill guide really only works if you make the original on a drill press.

      @@restorationrhode I rather figured I'd need a drill press to make one - my mate down the road has a fully kitted out workshop, so I'm asking him to make me one with multiple holes, one for each size drill bit. And that desk is a cutie... love it.

    A little recommendation for the tambour door. Use canvas in a darker colour and trim the edges more neatly. The woodwork was meticulous, but the fabric you used lowered the grade. At first, I thought that it would be inside and not visible, but later I saw that it shone through between the slats, and also was visible when the top was open. Frayed edges and discoloured cheaper-looking fabric stood out like a sore thumb. 😊

      I gotta ask, what brand did you go with?

    • @restorationrhode
      @restorationrhode  10 дней назад +1

      So. First and foremost was my budget and my available space. I have a small work area in my garage. I was gonna go with the DeWalt job site, however I saw a review for the Skil. It’s smaller good build quality and it can fold up for storage. Also it was half the cost. So I used the other half of my budget to get a plunge router. So I went with Skil table saw and the Skil plunge router. I think these are good purchases for where I’m at in my woodworking journey. Down the line I will probably upgrade though.

    •  10 дней назад

      @
      Sounds great! I’ve had a Delta table saw for about 35 years now, and it still works great. Also I do have about five routers, one of them is exactly like your Craftsman router. It’s great putting a good workshop together.

      The photos on marketplace made it look like a normal sized desk. When I showed up it was a toddlers desk.

    Sand the inside! You already had it in pieces, why not just finish sanding all of it?? 4/5

      Did you want every single moment filmed? It would make a very long video.

      I thought the same thing. It’s easier to sand all the parts when you have the whole thing disassembled and then put back together when it’s all cleaned up. Seems like it would be harder to do as a whole.

      I sanded the inside but not to the extent of the outside.
