AMAZING Transformation of Antique Desk Chair | Furniture Restoration
Просмотров 148 тыс.6 месяцев назад
This weeks video was chosen by the people, for the people. I conducted a pole letting viewers pick the piece of furniture I restore for this video. The winner was this Desk Chair, which turned out nicely since it will pair well with the typewriter desk. The wood was cracked and the metal swivel and rocker were rusted and worn out. With a little TLC I brought this chair back to its former glory....

Free FB marketplace finds aren't always the best. Missing drawer bottoms, water warped drawers, rusted typewriter mechanism, tarnished brass feet and a desktop with a burn mark on it. When I reached out about this desk the photos showed it sitting in a garage, however, when I showed up it had been sitting outside in the rain for days. All this aside, I thought this would be a unique and fun res...
100 Year Old Buffet Kept Falling Apart | Furniture Restoration
Просмотров 55 тыс.10 месяцев назад
This furniture restoration was my most frustrating to date. Broken drawers, drawer slides, drawer stops, cabinet floors, dents and scratches, and my fight with a bent and cross threaded screw. I purchased the antique buffet off Facebook market place. The owner told me it was 100 years, and it certainly looked like it had 100 years worth of wear and tear. I removed all the old stain and varnish ...

    While I can understand derusting and reusing the original slotted screws, they are so often damaged from cam-out (and the use of the WRONG SIZED DRIVER!!!). I would replace them with modern stainless steel Philips or Robertson screws that are easier to drive in and out without cam-out.

    •  3 дня назад

      @ I gotta ask, what brand did you go with?

    • @restorationrhode
      @restorationrhode 2 дня назад

      So. First and foremost was my budget and my available space. I have a small work area in my garage. I was gonna go with the DeWalt job site, however I saw a review for the Skil. It’s smaller good build quality and it can fold up for storage. Also it was half the cost. So I used the other half of my budget to get a plunge router. So I went with Skil table saw and the Skil plunge router. I think these are good purchases for where I’m at in my woodworking journey. Down the line I will probably upgrade though.

    •  2 дня назад

      @ Sounds great! I’ve had a Delta table saw for about 35 years now, and it still works great. Also I do have about five routers, one of them is exactly like your Craftsman router. It’s great putting a good workshop together.

    There is an actual way to restore the beauty of an old piece without removing the patina. The patina in the value in a piece, it is its warm earned history. When the patina is removed, it's referred to as 'over restored' because it's reduced in value. It becomes just a piece of old furniture. Hence the $20 offer. As I suggested before, make your own furniture. You could find a respectable antique dealer with in-house restoration for piece work. They no doubt would want you to know, and teach you how to keep the value on a basic piece of furniture like this dresser for their shop.

    At one point I went to an old small school where 1st and 2nd grades were combined as were 3rd and 4th, and 5th and 6th. The pricipal was the 5/6 grade teacher. Our desks were similar except the top raised up and the chair was fixed to the desk. When the old school was torn down and replaced anyone who wanted, could get one of the old desks. We had one for a while but I don't know what happened to it.

      @@restorationrhode With good glue that's probably true. However, after watching Norm Abrams on the NYWS, I bought myself a biscuit joiner, and used that whenever I had to joint more than two boards to make a large plank for my projects.
