Took me forever to figure that one out, I was so frustrated being on another island for 3 days, watching a storm roll through, and not having water in my still.
I just started playing this a week ago and thought the ONLY way they refill is with palm fronds or fibrous... they refill on their own when it rains? Awesome haha
One more tip. Once you kill the predators, don't skin them. Boars, Sharks, Mega crabs. If you don't skin them, they will not appear in that area till you have not got rid of the carcass. Sometimes you might want to create a safe place (and I hate when the pigs / boars kick around the stuff I have collected.
How did you do 20 tips and now 25 tips and not know how to make water? I’m going to assume that you misspoke since you have palm fronds laying around which can be used to make water.
@@kurthooke2043 Sorry for the confusion. I was making a public comment and was trying to address the person who made the video. It boggles the mind that he could have two videos with tips on playing Stranded Deep but did not know how to work the water still.
You don't need that bird snail it's not very efficiently for getting food. Just build a fishing spear and go diving. Within less than a minute you can nealry fill up your whole inventory with fresh fish.
@@christianmiller6046 yea you can take whole palm tree bunches and carry them to your still and chop them up to the smallest size select them and aim your cross hairs at the lower side of the still legs and it will show you you can place them haha this is going to save you hours dude ..you really only need two stills on home base as some water skins and your all set for the trips to other islands on that water and coconuts
So tru. Build a small ship. Nah i got a big raft with container shelves and crates. Yes it turns a bit slow but i have 30x4 spots. Not including what i can carry on me. Building a shelter from what i can tell holds no value. You dont need to wait for rain for water. Catch birds is a waste. Just catch a grouper. They are slow, take too hits and you get medium meat.
I find it relaxing if you turn the animals to passive and it extremely stressful when animals are set to attack you. I switch between the two, dependent on my mood and if I need to relax or not.
I threw a spear at Wollie.. 😹 i was shocked when it stuck. Then i realized i could throw spears into the ground around my hut to make it look even cooler.🤦♀️
Probably not the first to say this but, you can stack crates in the crate shelf, fill a water still with fibrous leaves or palms to have them fill up without rain, and drag things with the right mouse button. Great video, I learned a lot, thanks!
As for your drinking water... you can add 4 fibrous leaves as well as the palm leaves to your drinking water condenser. And it'll fill up with water relatively quickly. So you only need maybe 2 or 3 at max to keep you pretty maintained with a constant water supply.. hope it helps..
you can also drag things around so when you make your first raft piece just make it and then grab it and drag it to shore. you can do this with all the animals and almost any object in the game
tip #16 and #20 you can put containers (or wooden crates) on the container shelf's three at a time you can also put the container shelf's on your raft with that tiny raft you have in the vid you could put two container shelf's on that raft with six container that gives you18 slots for storage while your going from island to island for resources
Within the first hour of playing on my first island I ventured to there was two big crabs chasing me I was so scared. Threw my 4 spears at one and they all broke without damaging it. I ran to get another stick, got another spear and actually just went up to them and attacked it maybe 3 times each. It was very easy, but soo scary at first 😂😂

I've wanted to play this game for a very long time now. Finally got it last week and remembered how terrified of open water I am lmao😂🤦🏻Whenever I fall off my raft or see that damn shark I panic lol
The wooden shelves hold the containers. Makes it better for having them on your raft. You can also drag the bigger things you kill to an area of your preference and they won't go off if you don't skin them (skin them when you need them)
When you find a crate, bring it back to camp, then save. Only after saving open your crate, if you don’t like what’s inside, reload from last save, and try again, the contents will be different. Rinse and repeat until you’re satisfied with the contents
It is indeed! I also use it to label shelters, i.e. 'Island 13' (start island on the 5x5 grid) etc. It happens to be Island 13 by coincidence, doesn't it!?
tip update Shelves hold three wood chests and chests can be named to ID what's in them. Chests now hold 5 stacks of stuff in them. Shelves can also be built on your Raft allowing for bulk cargo shipment from islands back to your main basecamp. don't be as worried about keeping your Raft small as one can NEVER have enough Storage. Water Collectors do not rely solely on Rain to fill, put Palm Fronds or Yucca Leave under them and they will refill
Crates can now hold five different items for each. A ration will supply a full daily dose of food and water. NORTH is 45 degrees to the right on the map. Make a bed and keep it on the raft. Lanterns light spaces or small areas. flashlights show you the way always carry two. I usually build a 5 X 5 raft. the middle 3 rows consists of tires and barrels on the outside. Steam has crafted islands for the PC game. I have well over 3000 hours invested in this game. If you just want to craft you can play the safe game.(never die + tame animals) Save often. Use the map. More tips Palm fronds and palm tree leaves can be used to replenish the water stills. they can also be used to fuel the fires (yes they can burn) The spear in your hands prevents you from grasping any object (put it back in the backpack) You can build rafts on land but the edge you are working on must be elevated.
I just started playing yesterday got about 2 hours in and realized that you can put the palm fronds in the water still and it's what makes the water during the non-rainy days. Four fronds fit inside. Just like your reloading your fire with wood, you can reload this water stills with fronds.
You put wood containers on the container shelf for storage instead of on the floor. And use the label maker to change the name on the container so you know what’s in it
Thanks for the tips man 👍🙂 Great video, awesome game. And don't feel too bad about the water still thing - I played countless hours before I realised I could place the palm fronds underneath 🤣
Just a tip for rafts i tend to build 2 one small for quick movement and exploring than a bigger raft with container shelves so i can collect everything on a island and bring it mo my main island
Maybe late but you can put ferns and fibrous leafs into the bottom of the water catchers. And also you can find label makers around the map that you can use to label your box’s or anything else. Good luck yall!🤘🏼
You can build the raft base and floor on the ground and drag it into the water. The rudder and additional bases stuck onto the original one will need clearance from the ground so best to do when in the water.
You can also pick up one end of your raft using the drag function and stand it on its side or end. This way you can attach your rudder, anchor, etc... while still on land.
Thanks for all the tips man! I recently got this game, and wanted to start a YT series but didn't know too much about the game, but this video helped out a ton!
Biggest tip I can give is make metal or wooden crop beds metal is the best fill them all the way up and you don't have to check on them more than once in 7 in-game days
For the water collectors if you place covers like the palm fronds or the small leaves forgot what they are called but those make water for the water collector for the first one
U can refil water stills with palm fronds and fiberous leaves. They arent a rain collector. They DOUBLE as a rain collector. But they make water by refiling them the way you would with your fire
Thanks for the vid! Sorry about the people in the comments, I personally enjoyed the way you play- even if it isn't all the most efficient. I think it'd be a good idea to replay the tutorial on a separate save every major update in case they add new stuff since you clearly have been playing since before a lot of this stuff was added.
Tip, you can lift stuff by right clicking and holding on to any item. Build your raft at shore then lift it out to sea, or bring the shark in to shore before skinning it, the meat will not be spoiled if you just let the shark lay on the beach.
by rightclicking on your raft or any item for that matter you can drag it with you, so if your raft gets stuck or stranded at the beach you can just pull it back into the water by rightclick(hold) and move with your curser or character, helpfull vor any one just starting
Add fronds or leafs in still to get more water. Don't waste your time with small game. Hunt for archer fish. They supply medium meat. Very easy to hunt. Organize Organize Organize! Create shelves to Organize your supplies. There's a unlimited water glitch. Man, I need to make my own video! I have so many amazing tips!
Man I'm here taking in all the tips I can for stranded deep. I understand it's new to console which is why I'm playing now. Some things are different and updated since this video. I just had to say on console for new players. Dont underestimate the giant crab. It most definitely can turn on you if you give it too much space and say it runs into a rock or your chasing into the water. You'd think crabs would like water but the big guys really dont.
Also check for a pipi plant in your starter island IMMEDIATELY. You WILL get poisoned without a keen eye in this game and I suggest find that plant and farm it before you are poisoned. I spent the good part of an entire day searching islands or reloading to my last save. You should have one on your starter island but thanks to my seed there wasnt one for the mine or any of the closest islands.
How can you not know that the container storage racks are meant for crates. You stack 3 crates per rack. And also, the water still... you put fibre leaves or palm leaves under/into it to make water. And lastly, with the last update, meat now spoils even if it’s smoked. The only way to preserve it is to leave the animal intact
You can put fiber in the bottom of a the water collectors. It takes a bit but, better then waiting for rain. You can also get the fibrous plant by cutting it. I think you have to cut it with a knife.( i can't remember what the plant is called) so you can have and nearly infinite amount of water. I hope this helped
No no no! Don't put fibrous leaves they are really crucial for lashing! Put palm fronds instead you can cut down a palm tree and then cut the palm leaves to get 5 each time which you can use
Did they update the water still since this video was posted? Because I discovered recently out of sheer luck while looking at the base of the still that it has a "fuel" gauge like a camp fire. Instead of topping it up with logs like a fire, you top it up with 4 palm fronds that get converted into 4 servings of water very quickly. This was a complete game changer, because prior to this I was struggling daily with thirst and extremely low health. Now I'm thriving and healthy
I just got the game and you can carry the wood raft base and whatnot. So no need to build it on the water! And thankfully my water still fills up without rain lol
You can actually plant Yucca trees now. At least on PS4. You take the Yucca fruit which is a clipping really, not a fruit, which you will find on an empty Yucca plant.
Ok how does everyone know about the Palm Fronds/Fiberous Leaves tip to filling your water still? I never would’ve guessed it had I not watched these types of videos lol it’s only day 5 and I’m struggling just to stay alive, theres definitely a lot more depth and independence to this game than I assumed

Adding the palm leaves as fuel for water stills was a W update
You can put palm fronds underneath the water collector to actually get water by the way
Pom founds can go in your water stills to generate water more frequently than waiting for rain.
You can actually plant Yucca trees now. At least on PS4. You take the Yucca fruit which is a clipping really, not a fruit, which you will find on an empty Yucca plant.
With the water stills you can add more palm frawns to gather water quicker even without rain
Palm fronds can be placed under the water collecter to make water.
Great tips for strander deep. Very usefull for me. 👍
I know I'm late, but YES, I would like more content! 😊
You can use a label maker if you find one to label your crates.
#12, you have a watch that displays the time, why need to look at the moon?
Idk if it’s just the version I’m playing (PS4), but the watch can be hard to see at different times of the day.
You also don't have to have crafting materials in your inventory just gotta be in proximity of them
Just saying you can put palm leaves in the water collector to get the water faster instead of waiting
You can put palm fonds or fibrous leaves under the water still to produce water regularly you just have to replace them 😂
“Not extinguishing the fire is a waste of wood”
me who already harvested every island
“ I like your funny words magic man”
Oof, I dunno how you managed not to look at the bottom of the water stills to see they can be filled with 4 palm fronds to create more water
Yeah, a map would be amazing
I recommend stacking materials rather than leaving crap all over the ground.
Thank you for giving these tips.Im just an newbie in this game
Great tips, mate. Thanks a lot!
the water stills will fill in the rain but if you load them with palm fronds it collects all the time
Almost every island has stone all over it but you can't harvest it, it's infuriating that I'm surrounded by rock but have no rock.
Put palm leaves under the water collection system to generate water
The stills with leaves added under are so easy.
Pitstop head: jumps into the water to collect a few sticks
Shark: Ima pretend I didnt see that
you can put palms from palm tree to make water up to 4 or 5 palms
Water collector can collect water if you add fibrous leaves or palms to the bottom
So do you just pick what island you want to build on? And just travel to the others? Any tips for where to build??
You can build the raft on on shore and drag it
