    I'm a Group A fanatic, but this era of cars are still very special. Once they went to pipes and plastic replicas without a genuine body shell, it got a bit meh. Following this restoration has been amazing, and to culminate with this shakedown and Larry behind the wheel, what a lovely piece of art this is. I really wish we could start another category of real touring cars and privateers. It's become more of a business rather than builders racing their own cars. Enjoy the mountain in this epic machine. And congratulations to all involved. Thanks for sharing.

    We built durable world class cars here in Aus and we raced 'em. The first one to win Bathurst with a Holden engine was a nimble little Torana in 1972. That car opened a window in history.
    The last car to win Bathurst with Holden power was this one in 1993 & then that window closed.
    Holden engines won more races during that period than any other. They were good engines.
    Even though it's been 23 years since a new Holden V8 left the factory, hundreds of thousands of them survive.
    This one fitted to Larry's 1993 Bathurst winner must surely be the most important of them all & just like countless thousands of her sisters, she still responds to love & care & she still does everything anyone could ever want an engine to do.
    Congratulations to you, Larry. You built a truly great car.
    Congratulations to you, Jack. You rebuilt a truly great car.
    To all of the racers, mechanics, engineers & owners who helped keep this car alive after all these years & to those who helped put her back together exactly as she was on her biggest day out, THANKYOU.

It sounded lovely pulling out of NGK corner and heading up the back straight from the main grandstand..... And nobody ever looked like being able to pass it going up there! Whilst it was unfortunate it blew up down the front straight mid race, I left looking forward to a good result at Bathurst. It was a rocketship!

    It’s been so enjoyable watching this progress on the videos. LP and the other Holden drivers are so special to so many people. I was born in 1980 so my first memories of touring cars were the mid to late 80s and the passion was certainly there in the early 90s and has been until this day. Dad had a commodore so naturally that started my love of V8 commodores and I’ve owned commodores since I was old enough to have a license. I got my first V8 when I was 18 and have always had one since, during Covid I had three. I drive a 6L to work and my 23 year old son now owns my VN SS that I had for twenty years so the next generation is carrying on the passion. What you’ve done with the restorations is mind blowing and I’m sure others, like me, are emotional about seeing and hearing these run like that. Be very proud of what you’ve achieved, it means so much to so many I’m sure and it’s nothing to do with the value etc, it’s the memories.

    L P, well done a true legend telling it like it is. In a sanitized world it's great that some people are still so honest. One of the best engineers and drivers ever. Love the show Jack. Great memories for you and your Dad.

    Bravo Zulu (well done) to all involved in the car. Question on Notice When did you go to Refueling Rigs that had for for Gen 2 cars?

    • @perkinsengineering
      @perkinsengineering  Год назад +1

      So the refueling dry breaks on this car are actually the same as Gen2, except in 1993 there was one on each side of the car. In current situations they are set-up in siamese so they are side by side on the same side of the car. One less person standing out in the "fast lane" of pit lane. Cheers!

    How did it drive JP? I s'pose not only did you have to get used to the Armstrong steering, but im betting that the driving position is all LP, as it was back then too 😂

      It was good. I had driven the 1997 car before, so not too dissimilar in a way, but the Holden Engine with the slide manifold is very nice to drive. Driving position with seat and steering wheel was all good for me :)

    I can't remember the last time i drove a car without power steering. I can't imagine driving a race car without it!

    • @perkinsengineering
      @perkinsengineering  Год назад +1

      It's funny really, the direction the current style of cars have gone with set-up, things like negative camber, castor etc. are because they have power steering. The more of that "stuff" you put into the car the more feedback through the steering. So nowadays when the power steering failures you literally have no chance to keep driving it, back then you could only sneak on so much camber until it was too heavy - you created your own limits. Cheers!

    Did the cars get sold off when time was up or mothballed?

    • @perkinsengineering

      Our cars (and business model) was sell them to customers and then continue to build them engines and spare parts etc.
