I remember walking through the old HSV factory in Clayton back in about 96 or 97 and seeing a factory built VP commodore convertible among other rare Holden's... Memories aye....😂🤣
What a nostalgic step back in time. Seeing that 94. Was my first and only Bathurst. And I have an old photo of me standing next to the car. I remember the family over there weren't to happy (all Ford fans) and I arrive in a HK commodore (bought for 150 dollars) in my Holden gear😂. Going to have to dig it out this weekend. Thank you for restoring these beauties. 😁
Very special win not only for Larry and the team. But for Holdens history because it was the last win under true Holden power. Ps I too remember that race! Jack must be so proud to be a part of it all and the rebuild you can hear the passion to ensure that it's as close to the day it won at Bathurst 🇦🇺
When these cars used to race was a good time to be alive life was simpler and life was good!can we not go back to them old days 😏 on a lighter note love these videos 👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼 bringing back the past
Credit to Jack, must be awesome to be surrounded by his old mans legacy and be there for the golden era. Love nerding out and frothing to what he does.
I love this era. Don't get me wrong, Larry was a great driver, but, it was his engineering that created this great legacy we just witnessed. Full props to Jack and Larry for taking this on. Can't wait to see it driven in anger again... 🥰👍
Larry's engineering was so beautiful and the one stated loyal to the Holden motor. Such awersome content. I have original VP front and rear HSV spoilers and build number. A few more thinks also. 💯😀Love the Lion 🦁😂
How proud must Jacks dad be a great young bloke and he has his own RUclips channel worth supporting I say good onya Luke great cover 🇦🇺proud born and bread
Fantastic video fella's! These cars were awesome to watch still maintaining some relevance to the road cars.. And Larry is one incredible Aussie who with his engineering might took on and defeated the very best out there.. Fantastic job Jack..
This was an awesome episode. I loved Larry Perkins' cars back in the day and loved that he stuck with the holden donk long after everybody else went to chevs. Great to see history being bought back to life there. Also frothing at those Group A manifolds
Jack, your attention to detail and the explanation of all that you do to restore these brilliant machines is exceptional. I thoroughly enjoy your content and watching the meticulous restoration of these beautiful cars. Well done, and thank you Ryco for this episode of Perkins Engineering.
not a Holden fan and VPs are the biggest bathtub on the road haha, but this kind of video is perfect. we never really get to see inside the race teams and what the actually do in house behind the scenes. it would be great to see more of this from the other Aussie race teams. like i know Gibson made a lot of the parts for the 32 gtr but all that info is not really acknowledged or not talked about. really enjoyed this good work.
Was great watching this. I remember lining up in the heat at Oran Park raceway when I was in my early teens for some reason Larry walked up to me brought me to the front & done a couple of autographs.
Enjoyed this mate , think it's time to start on my 91 5ltr haha after watching this just make me realise what we have lost over time , glad someone is keeping the iron lion alive 😜😜
Definitely one strong egg shell.. i do believe Larry got his hands on the sand mouldings so maybe not very egg shell like . Very special man and absolutely legend
Amazing great interview so much information and detail you never knew at the time ..I wonder when It was originally sold on from LP..was it sold with the signage and original engine..or another engine and signage removed?
i was born in 95 so the cars i cheered on at Bathurst were the VZ and VY Holdens much to my ford loving fathers dismay. but in 2010 my best mate was given a shitbox old VP commodore and at the time we hated the thing but now they're one of the cars i love a bit rarer in New Zealand with the v8 but this is really pushing me over the edge to wanting a VP was about to buy a VT commodore to play around with or an EL falcon as they have a special place in my heart but i think i'd always regret not buying a VP
Still remember a very young Jack cruising around the pit area, totally oblivious to Larry delivering an arse-kicking in 93. It doesn't feel 29 years-ago.
Apparently Jack looked to buy a low K clean VP from Shepparton mid last year for parts but didn't end up buying it because it was too clean to wreck. Not sure if the seller was BSing so would be nice to know from Jack. I bought this car and going over it atm to do all the known issues as preventative exercise so I can retire my old daily manual VP which has done a gazillion Ks and falling apart at this stage. VN,VP and VR are my fav cars, especially VP series II.
If I could get my hands on one of these.y did the bathurst ones sound so good.dunno but has to be a different engine.the 5l commys dont sound anything like those

Was at this Race as a 13 year old, used to go every year with my Dad.

Loved watching Larry racing as a kid. Such a great Resto Jack and congrats on the top work. Awesome interview Luke.
You just have to love that 1993 commodore. What an absolute beauty and powered by the greatest engine in a Holden. The Holden 5 litre

All this work done on two old fighters is awesome. And the video is well done, appreciated, sir.
I prefer the VNs than the VP for road cars - but love the way the VP looks in race trim, here. Looks tuff with the VP front.
I could watch this stuff all day.
Great interview Fullboost !!! 😜👍🇦🇺

Fantastic trip down memory lane!
Amazing attention to detail, Jacks a good bloke.
This is epic! fantastic stories and great to see the passion is still there with the older cars.
Such a beautiful thing when efforts put into tracking old racing parts.

Been following Jacks channel recently. SUPER fucking cool so see all these old race cars and their technology up close and personal.

Beautiful restoration of those cars.
LPE will forever be my favourite team and the Castrol VP’s are the greatest touring car ever made. Love it 🖤🇦🇺
Always been a big fan of the Perkins! ❤

No way, I still have the matchbox car of these commodores in its box from when I was a kid, awesome to hear they are being restored
Bloody awesome interview 👌
Awesome content guys. This is the stuff all us car nerds love to watch.

They were the days. The best
The vp v8 supercar was just an absolute piece of art
That was dead set the quickest 21min vid I've ever watched 👌👏
great video guys. this series you are doing is excellent. I could listen to Jack for hours talking about old race cars. keep up the good work
Watching an expert who also has passion is jaw droppingly entertaining. Great stuff.
What a nice surprise for a Friday this video was!
Jack seems like a great guy. They're doing gods work 👌
This is awesome. I’m a Ford man but this is soo cool. Love to see this do some laps of the Mountain! Cmon Repco/Supercars. Make it happen!
Awesome. Thanks FB and Perkins for sharing.
Awesome work make, really enjoyed that one
Incredible work
Larry's trusty vw bump stop gear knobs, you can't beat them.👍
Enjoyed this mate , think it's time to start on my 91 5ltr haha after watching this just make me realise what we have lost over time , glad someone is keeping the iron lion alive 😜😜
awesome video Jack is such a champ
Larry used to pick odds and ends up at my Dads VW wreckers back in the 80s I believe he liked to use the bug bump stops as gear knobs.
He used to make dildo's out of them for Skaifey and Crompo. Those two used to go through hundreds of them every season.
Talk about very clean👌👏👏👏
Definitely one strong egg shell.. i do believe Larry got his hands on the sand mouldings so maybe not very egg shell like . Very special man and absolutely legend
Great video!!!
Im still a proud owner of the vp clubsport quite old now parts a not easy to get a hold of. But a pretty car good to see this one get restored
Beautiful cars👍
AWESOME STUFF BIG THUMBS UP 👍
Great vid thoroughly enjoyed 👍
This is so good.
Amazing great interview so much information and detail you never knew at the time ..I wonder when It was originally sold on from LP..was it sold with the signage and original engine..or another engine and signage removed?
Man that is so Awesome what a story 👌

Epic love old school Super cars 👍
Awesome video 👍
Amazing stuff, great video, would also love to know where those jack stands come from the look wicked!
Still remember a very young Jack cruising around the pit area, totally oblivious to Larry delivering an arse-kicking in 93. It doesn't feel 29 years-ago.
Brilliant.
Holden gone but never forgotten
Hey Jack! I've always wondered why the VP ran a VN tail light centre garnish. Do you happen to know why? Cheers, James

Would be cool to see how the adjustable roll bar system works
Are these guys still operating out of Dandenong/ Dandenong south?
That 93 car needs to lap Bathurst again. It would be the coolest thing ever
I can't believe the work, seeing it red! I would have quit
Awesome 👌👍🍺
11 Legend
Vp favourite commodore ever
you could eat off any part of those commodores they're so clean.
I just sent the Perkins guys a message on Facebook. If they need help sourcing those Earls fittings let me know ill do what I can.
Great job Jack very well detailed when finished you should have it judged at Summernats .
:)...love it.
If I could get my hands on one of these.y did the bathurst ones sound so good.dunno but has to be a different engine.the 5l commys dont sound anything like those
Insightful vid! I only just watched the Perkins engineering clip of the motor on the dyno last night. Check it out
So THAT'S why I can't find VP parts for the Senator....lol...
everyone wants an arm and a leg for vn/vp stuff now
He should totally make a Lexen 1uz version of the racecar haha
1UZ?
@Dingo Jones Got it... Our Lexus V8...
The oranger red looked better on camera.
from a time when racing was far more interesting what a pity they destroyed a once great series with the garbage of todays shitboxes
Ryco filters are made in China last time I checked. Sorry. Bug bear of mine. 😐
Jack had a very poor run in the 12 hour maybe he should retire?
