Just gonna put this here for my benefit:
    - 1:1 rice/water ratio
    - cook 12 minutes low pressure
    - 10 minute natural release

Here's another tip, Basmati white rice is way more fluffier and far less sticky than Long grain rice and that is even with a 1:2 Rice/water ratio.

In Brazil we stir fry the dry grains first. I'm sure you are going to love Brazilian style rice: the ratio is 1 tbs of olive oil, one garlic clove and one tsp of salt per cup of rice (option: chopped onion, 1tbs per cup). Heat the oil, add garlic and onion and stir until fragrant (no browning). Dump the dry rice and stir for about 2-3min on medium high or until the rice has absorbed the oil and starts to catch. Proceed with your favorite ratio and fluffing approach.
The frying and the olive oil trigger the gelatininization of the starch around each grain, resulting in a much fluffier result. You may have to tweak with your ratio as age and variety factors are always different for each package we buy. If the texture is rubbery, just add 1/2 a cup of water and put it back on low, covered to finish the cooking (and next time consider the water when deciding ratios for that package of rice).
Hope you give this a try. Hugs from Brazil. Big fans here.

Thank you for the tip. When I cook rice in a pan, I like to "brown" the rice first before adding water like you do. It does add to the flavor.

I cook my white rice pretty much by package directions, About 2 Cups water, to 1 cup rice sometimes with a little salt. Heat the water to boiling, add the rice, stir, put the lid on and reduce heat to very low. Set the timer to 20 minutes. Take it off the heat at 25 minutes and it is very well cooked every time so I don't see a pressing need to use a pressure cooker to do this. Including the pressure build up time and maybe cool down time it is no faster. But I know rice cookers seem to be pretty popular so maybe I am missing something The stir fry first sounds interesting. I will try that.

Thanks for sharing. As a rice enthusiast, there's nothing I hate like broken strands of rice. Here's another method for cooking perfect rice in the IP:- Use the 1:1 ratio of rice and water (or chicken/vegetable stock), add in a knob of butter and salt. Select the manual function (NOT the rice function) and cook for 5-6 mins. Naturally release the steam for a minimum of 10 mins and use a fork to gently fluff the rice. This method works best with basmati and long grain rice. I would use the rice function if I'm cooking jasmine or very glutinous type of rice.
After using the IP for more than 5 years, I've found that the rice function produces a lumpy outcome. In my opinion, rice should be single strands when cooked unless it's cooked in a thick kind of gravy.

What will really help is to rinse the rice until the water is clear to get rid of the starch. You can also use a little bit of salt and lemon juce. The type of rice you use will make a difference as well. Don't use sushi rice, maybe try basmati rice. (longer rice grains like she says in the vid)

Love your laugh, sounds like mine. I decided to make white rice in my instant pot for the first time. I usually use my rice cooker, but shes 20 years old and starting to turn off too early. I'm waiting to see how it goes. Did a 10min release, it came out between a cross of sticky rice and a fluffy rice.
I did 4 cups of rice and water. Rinsed of course until clear. Thank for the tutorial. We like a firmer and separate grain. My husband tried it and said that it's good for a first attempt.

I sometimes use the Rice button, but more often use 3 minutes at HIGH pressure, 7 minutes natural pressure release. I get the same results in less time, 10 minutes, rather than 22 (not counting coming to pressure). You covered all the points very clearly. Nice video!

      Will try this option

@@oolivmod177 Be sure to rinse the rice first. I should have mentioned that. It removes extra starch, bug parts and eggs, and diatomaceous earth, which companies often add to rice to kill weevils.

ALL WAYS count the coming up pressure. It makes the "instant" not so instant.

@@markusy3410 What about boiling water on the stove? Do you count that? How about preheating the oven? Do they add that to the cook time in recipes? Additionally, coming to pressure when cooking rice takes less time, since you're using half the water.

Looks good! As a kid, I would eat with some sugar and that pat of butter. My husband would pour milk over his.

I feel so dumb, I thought steam cooked rice was rice cooked using steam when actually It's simply rice boiled under pressure. WHO KNEW?

This is the first video I’ve seen where the rice doesn’t come out gummy! So many videos out there, but this one really comes out fluffy. Thanks!

1:1 works for all rice really... The more water is just to account for cook time to evaporation.

I found you last night as I was in a rush and trying to make rice in my pressure cooker for my pork friend rice. Ma’am, this was the best rice I’ve ever made ended up just eating most of it with butter and salt instead of in my recipe!!
