  • Here is the kitchen equipment I used in this video:
    Instant Pot 6qt DUO: amzn.to/2KeequP
Pot in pot stainless steel pan (part of this stacking set): amzn.to/2YBwYZW
Trivet with tall legs: amzn.to/2T6nh4y (I couldn't find one on Amazon that is exactly like the one I showed in the video. This listing is a set of two that double as egg steamer racks. The one I used in the video has 3 inch legs, which is the same as the taller one in this listing)
If you have an Instant Pot Mini 3 qt you can find accessories for cooking pot in pot rice here:
Small stainless steel pan (part of this stacking set): amzn.to/31gaz67
Tall trivet (2 inch legs): amzn.to/2YpaPm8 (this listing also comes with silicone egg bite molds... it's the best tall trivet I've found for the 3qt IP and haven't been able to find one in a listing by itself)

Just so people know, the Rice button actually uses the Instant Pot's internal sensors to judge when to stop cooking the white rice. This makes the Instant Pot more like a rice cooker which also uses sensors to ensure perfectly cooked white rice. So, while you can manually set up your Instant Pot to cook rice according to your preferences, the Rice button takes all of the guesswork out of cooking the white rice like a dedicated rice cooker.

How much water did you use? In a pressure cooker none, or very little, of the water is being lost to evaporation. She is using 1 to 1, the instructions on rice containers is usually 2 parts water to 1 of rice. Jasmine and basmati usually say 3 water to 2 rice, 1.5 to 1.

Hey Beryl , thank you for having me on ! Any deep pot or pan with a lid works for idlis. It is important to let them steam in a space where steam can get out a bit . Else all the water will condense on the idlis and make them soggy. In India, we use a pressure cooker without the pressure lid clamped on, so the steam can go out. A deep dutch oven with the lid ever so slightly open, should work. Also, the idli should not steam for two long. For small idlis like the ones you have made, 3-4 mins of high steam is good enough. We poke a toothpick to make sure it is cooked through. Happy idli making !

I broke my rice cooker trying to clean it so I used this recipe for the instant pot. Made long grain white rice tonight. Rinsed rice till water ran clear. Exactly 4 cups rice 4 cups water (Pyrex measuring cup). I salted then added about 2 tbsp butter. 6 minutes high pressure then natural release for 5 minutes before manually releasing the remaining pressure. I've never made rice so perfect. This will be my go to for cooking rice. Thanks!! So much faster and better!

Never had luck with white rice, brown rice or Jasmine rice in my Instant Pot.
Almost gave up on rice altogether until I tried basmati rice PIP. Came out absolutely perfect first time. So I make it at least once a week now.
I almost always use PIP in my Instant Pot, for easier cleanup and for quickly storing the leftovers in the bowl it was cooked in. (Easier to get every grain out of a bowl than the deep inner pot!) I do this for grits and oatmeal as well because I always want to make enough for leftovers.
I would love tips on PIP quinoa and brown rice. Couscous and barley PIP would also be great. I love grains when I have just a little meat/fish or leftover roasted vegetables to use up.
I only cook in the inner pot if I need to brown, make soups or large amounts, like greens.

Hi Nili, Thanks for the pot in pot demo; I've been looking for info on that. I have the stacking pots, so I can try it. I just want to say that I have cooked both short grain and long grain, brown rice using the rice setting and it comes out great(for my taste). I don't understand why everyone I've heard, says that the rice setting is ONLY for white rice.

I grew up around Chinese restaurant : ) Ive cook my rice on the stove for a few years now, was thinking about getting a rice cooker but remembered I have the instapot. I tried ur method, it was great! I like that the system counts cooking time at proper temp set, taking 5-6 min and softening the shell. I will be trying brown rice when I get some. Just to see how fast that can be.

for some reason when I cook the rice in the inner pot it sticks. So, I do it pot-in-pot. I add a minute and it is fine. Perfect rice or grains without sticking. This past week I’ve done quinoa, black rice and basmati rice.
I am not a fan of the rice cup or the rice paddle. I use neither.

So to cook white jasmine rice, you use 2 pyrex measuring cups worth or is it 2 cups, of the small, plastic cup that comes with the IP Mini?
And the 2 cups water, that is 2 pyrex cup sizes, then?

is it possible to make super soft, well cooked white rice with soft grains in the MINI Duo?
I have severe chronic bowel issues and I can only eat soft rice. I´m looking for a kitchen tool/machine where I can cook soft rice in bulk (300-400g raw weight)
I appreciate every tipp or suggestion or a review if the instant pot is a helpful tool for cooking really soft rice without texture but not total mush.
