You guys are the absolute best! I was able to fix my bike all because you made these two-part videos! Before this, I didn't even know what a ratchet was!! I'm so stoked to get my hog on the road! Thank you times a million!
Have to say I really like your videos I’m just getting into the Harley bikes so this is all new to me just want to say thanks for putting them out there
In 1997 - 2000 I made a lot of guys spend a lot of money on their bikes trying to beat my XL 1200 Sporty..You live in a pretty nice part of the states. I live in Manitoba . About one block from Minnesota and 4 miles to North Dakota. Winter time if you know what that is. 2 feet of snow and ice on the streets. Then pot holes from the ground heaving. So that's why a lot of guys ride newer bikes. Streethlide seems to be the bike of a lot of dudes around here..Hard bags and a fairing . I bet your roads are smoother then ours.
Just getting to this video today, then about half way through I suddenly realized what was on the front of your shirt, damn near fainted , got the almost exact shirt , only black when I was in Beijing just before the Olympics . Just goes to show, you never know what ya might see at Tatro Machine . Cheers. Guy Speight
I hope next weeks repair is to port an polish this sportster's heads and intake. With that new carb and ignition it would probably add good power since the stock casting are very rough..
well, it has to be an 80w / 85w oil that allows the use of a wet clutch. Here in my country you only get the original HD oil and it is very expensive to change dollars to our local currency, there are no alternatives like the maximum v-twin that you use. my machine is a blue hugger 883 year 98 thanks tatro
You could cut a slot in the side of your clutch pack compressor tool which you could see through and work through to get that snapring. Might make it easier. Just a thought.
the long ones (4 only) go in the holes around the engine flywheel, aka the left pulley in the case motorcyclists call "primary" ; as I understand from multiple videos the rest are all shorts.
hello tatro A technical query, the primary oil is that it is specific for the sportster but no brand says which specification of density is what it carries. do you really know what is the biscocity that takes? greetings from Argentina!
Nope, goes flat ring in first, concave spring ring white dot out load on top of flat ring, then fiber disc that came in the package (look at the diagram picture one more time). Hence you have flat ring, the package fiber plate (6:42), then concave spring load on top of the first fiber ring between it and the first solid plate; so the first fiber plate is doing nothing in regards to clamping force against the first solid plate since you have the concave spring loaded on the wrong side of the first thinner plate. As for touring models on the extra disco system, flat and concave first springs are not use/removed before you start installing the fiber and solid disc stack.
I've got a 2002 Twin Cam FXDP Are the 88's really that crappy a motor ? Which engine is the best of the modern era ? What I mean is which engine H.D. makes (21st Century) will last the longest ? (Fewest self destructing parts.) Plus what do you think of the new Indians (Polaris) ?
don't give a crap about other bikes, harleys are all i care about. with your limit of years, 2000 and up i would go with the 2000 fxr4 evo as the best bike and motor. you thought you were not letting me pick the best motor, the evo big twin motor. next would be the 1990-2003 sportster motors. now if you want the best twincam motor that i would go with a 1999-02 with a hyd camplate conversion and 2006 and up heads. just go buy an s&s twincam motor and screw the stock crappy motor. the s&s motor takes the best of the evo and twincam motor parts and makes it their own. i liked the ultima design the best but that never took off and i thing they are gone now. one thing about building custom motors. i can pick and choose the best parts for the aplication, no matter what the desigh starts as. tatro
i don't always follow directions exactly. if i see something not working correctly i make changes untill i think things are correct for the application. or i just screwed up again. don't know because this job was almost two years ago and has been working just fine. tatro
OK. I can clearly see you know what you are doing in the series of videos you have uploaded. I thought it was a recent job and might be important so I thought I would point it out. Your style of videography is strangely memorizing and entertaining as opposed to most of the machinist videos I watch where they talk to the viewer constantly as they work. Thanks for sharing.
i just let the work show what is going on as in the real world. what happens happens. nothing is staged. you just fix it as it hits you in the face. i am sure this shows thru in the videos and what you are talking about. tatro
Tatro Machine you put it in correctly. This guy doesn’t realize the ID of that first, extra fiber is made big enough for the damper seat and spring to sit inside of it. So it doesn’t matter if you install them like you did. It’s fine. I do these Barnett extra plate clutches on a weekly basis. It’s the same on a TC.
Tatro Machine just curious, technically the instructions tell you to but I know how you feel about those haha. I guess I should have worded that differently and asked what the pros and cons of soaking or not soaking are. Eventually they are gonna soak up the primary oil either way you do it I guess.
It would be so nice if this family was not illiterate and knew how to speak to one another without all the NAME CALLING. Some of us actually like each other and speak to each other with respect, as typical humans are supposed to. So that people do not suppose that they come from inbred masses. Why can't anyone talk without using the F..k word all the time? Or the Lord's name in vain, see Ex.20:1-17, my brothers.
GaryLordsWayMinistry hows the view from you FUCKING high horse there Gary? I’m gonna let you in on a little secret, if you don’t like something then you don’t have to take part in it. You Tube is voluntary. Don’t be a such a fucking dick. No kindly shut the fuck up. Fuck!!!!
The old saying goes, judge not, least yee be judged... if you dont like something he is doing... just.... forgive him... like a Christian would hahahaha
It‘s all about wrenchin‘ Harley‘s and all the cursing , damning and fun that comes with it , take it or leave it .I suggest look for another channel!!!

Great video!! Keep it up!!
walker always makes me laugh, top dude
Don't forget you need to soak the clutch in primary before you install. Makes for much easier lubricant
i don't see that. kevlar works just fine wet or dry.
tatro
Holy asscrack batman!..lol
Dude getting the Allen bolts!...hahaha

NO, the clutch fluid goes down the big hole ( clutch adjustment cover)- use a special squashed filling funnel to fill it.
SMOKE IT UP HOMIE! haha damn that made me laugh! its soo funny your having a laugh at the kid :p
Does he purposely slam everything he puts down?
Dammit man, you still put the first 3 in wrong...Flat in first, White dot goes in the middle and friction disc last DOOH!
cant be all that bad, it works better than it did and still is going strong all these years later.
tatro
You could cut a slot in the side of your clutch pack compressor tool which you could see through and work through to get that snapring. Might make it easier. Just a thought.
or i could just buy the correct tool.
tatro
I had 3 slots drawn up in my head (about 2" spaces left for strength)
the long ones (4 only) go in the holes around the engine flywheel, aka the left pulley in the case motorcyclists call "primary" ; as I understand from multiple videos the rest are all shorts.
Thought this was Tatro Machine.... must've found the Little Rascals channel. Where's Waldo?
I think you need a bigger shop Tatro. Working on the floor and on top of the parts washer bin is a sign that you need more space to work.
or maybe i should stop wasting all my time doing videos and get some work done.
tatro
No please waste more time on videos mate
hello tatro A technical query, the primary oil is that it is specific for the sportster but no brand says which specification of density is what it carries. do you really know what is the biscocity that takes? greetings from Argentina!
it is 80w or 85w gear oil.
tatro

I wasn't the only one to notice that.
definitely tack those crap pipes off and. throw them away . that said that piece of evo sung has some potential

Review your video. You put the fiber plate ring between two spring rings where the two spring rings should go in first per the diagram.
i don't always follow directions exactly. if i see something not working correctly i make changes untill i think things are correct for the application. or i just screwed up again. don't know because this job was almost two years ago and has been working just fine.

You need to make a cut away in that press
Nice vids. What boots you got? Thanks
military surplus boots.
tatro
Why didn’t you soak the fibers?
what for, they work wet or dry.
tatro

That said all the fibers in dry, open clutches I’ve used look almost the same as wet clutch fibers so I’m not sure what to make of that.
They make kit for open prime sportster you can run them open it 1200 dollars
Mario looks like Your Bushings for Your Kickstand are worn out ...
would i be a dumbass if i tapped a big bolt in the top of my primary cover for a kind of back up oil fill hole?
i take dose clutch whit experience to me lock brain new don be full
Lolol
You not a big sportster guy seem to be down on them
all harleys have issues. i only have about 10 sportsters in my name and another 30+ in parts. if you count k-models than add another 15+
tatro
