      You are right that phasers are second fiddle. In the balances, the Galaxy's Type X phasers put out 120 hit points, while the Type VI Photon hits with 312 hit points. This is typical. Nebulas have 100 hit points for their phasers and same 312 for torpedoes. I think even the Sovereign's Type XII phasers are also 120 hit points but its quantums w/ 600 hit points. Torpedoes are the real game-winners. It is why the BC stock Cardassian ships are so weak. Cardassian doctrine relies heavily on beam weapons with their cruisers specializing in heavy cannons with few torpedoes. BC doesn't assign the stock ships with heavy forward cannons. The Galors have phasers with only 80 hit points each, and with Type IV torpedoes at 240 points. To properly balance a Cardassian ship, its main SWD cannon should have something like 400-500 hit points, with the secondaries at a modest 90. But as far as I know, the only TNG era Cardassian ship with properly balanced beams is Sci Fi's Hutet and its giant SWD cannons are like 750 hit points each second.

    There's a phrase for what this is: seal clubbing. You killed the Enterprise B on the opening salvo!
    I wonder. The shields might be overwhelmed when getting 10 photons dropped on it simultaneously, it doesn't have the instantaneous energy output to block it all even though it's at high strength. Maybe? I really need to get Bridge Commander.

    That's correct, the D is superior in every way. Still... if you do it from both sides, you might find a way to beat it. Use the B as bait, it might last long enough to let Tasha fire enough torpedoes. 😆
    Edit: Yep, it's hopeless, you're only hope would have been to use your phasers to shoot down the D's torpedoes. As the security officer in Lower Decks said, "They covered the spread."🤣

    4:32 This is what I wanted to see during the Dominion War. The range of 24th century photon torpedoes would make a Galaxy-class act as something of a sniper that hangs back and picks off targets from afar. Have Defiants go in up close and weaken enemy shields so that you can finish up to 10 hostiles simultaneously.
    I expect the USS Enterprise-H to have even more torpedo launchers capable of firing 10 torpedoes.

      If one looks at the battle scenes in DS9, on several occasion in the background one sees Galaxy Class ships basically doing that. In the Battle of Cardassia, they are providing heavy phaser fire support while the Vorchas and Nebulas were engaging the Dominion Battleships and the BoPs and Miranda tangled with the Breen and Bug Ships. Tactically, it seems the show-runners used the ships with the heavy phasers as fire-support. During Operation Return, we saw most of the Cardassian Galor Type III Cruisers in the middle and rear lines, successfully using their SWD Lances to provide heavy direct fire support for the Bug Ships as they assaulted the Federation line. Romulan ships in the final episode were also hanging back and providing support for attack wings with their big T-Type disruptors.

      @@crownprincesebastianjohano7069 Do you happen to recall if they ever showed a Galaxy-class firing 10 torpedoes at once? After I read that in the "TNG Technical Manual" I had to look up when it was released and it was printed before DS9. According to this the range of photon torpedoes is about 10 times greater than phasers. (About 2 times greater when talking about TOS torpedoes.) That is why their use of energy weapons for support is so strange. It is not like the Technical Manual wasn't out yet, it is as though they used FASA's Star Trek RPG statistics.

    The Galaxy class has not lost it's futuristic look as the source material has aged. Maybe it's because I am stuck in the 90's because I grew up in those times, but I would argue that the Galaxy class still looks highly advanced even in this era of Star Trek.

  • @Jarsia

    • @peterthx

      I think the Ambassador was a piece of junk, which is why you see a ton of Excelsiors in the Dominion War and no Ambassadors.

    • @Jarsia
      @Jarsia 4 месяца назад

      @@peterthx I mean it managed to hold out long enough against 4 to 1 odds to convince the klingons to ally with the federation. By that reckoning the constitution class sucked as well given we still see Mirandas all over the place but no connies. More likely the Constitution and Ambassador class suffered from the same problem.
      Some militaries like the US have a high/low policy of procurement. They have the really expensive, top of the line stuff for the most challenging situations, and then they have cheaper mass produced stuff for easier assignments. The constitution class was for a time the most capable ship in starfleet, but when the excelsior came along it was a huge leap in capability. The Mirandas were smaller and less powerful than the constitution, but still capable while being easier to build. If you wanted power you went for the Excelsior, if you want numbers you go for the Miranda. The Constitution didn't have a niche anymore.
      Assuming the Ambassador class entered service in the 2340s, then little more than a decade later in the 2350s Galaxy class development would have begun. If starfleet saw they were going to have a bigger, more advanced standard bearer in just a few years, they may have limited the production run of the ambassador class to save resources for more galaxy production.
      The Seawolf submarines and the F22 both faced limited production runs, and both are considered the best in their field.
      TL;DR, just because there weren't many Ambassadors doesn't mean they were bad.

  • @crownprincesebastianjohano7069
    @crownprincesebastianjohano7069 4 месяца назад +1

    Yeah, this was going to happen. On a 1000 point scale, the Galaxy is 1000 and the Excelsior E-B variant is like 300 at best. The Ambassador is weighing in around 575-600. The only way to even things out is somehow get the D chasing the B while the Ambassador targets its sensors. The Galaxy Class throws so many torpedoes. Those aren't Picard era photons are they?

    One thing I've noticed in your videos is that you rarely aim for the sensor array. That should always be your first objective. If the enemy can't see you (or at least lock onto you) then they're at a severe disadvantage. In a fight like this one, the Enterprise-C's primary goal should've been to blind the Enterprise-D as quickly as possible, with a secondary objective of destroying the impulse engines.
    If the Ent-D couldn't see or move, it could easily be torn apart by the Ent-B and Ent-C.
    Some people might say that's not "fighting fair" but so what? This isn't about fighting fair, especially since the Ent-D is much more powerful than either the Ent-B or Ent-C.
    So I'd really like to see this match-up again, except with you specifically going for the Ent-D's sensor array.

    Personal opinion: The Alarrowhead design aesthetic of federation starships is cool, but it only really worked for Voyager. I respect the Sovereign, but in my opinion, it's still not as "futuristic" or "advanced" as the semi oval of the Galaxy Class.

    The B i understand, thats much older, but the C shouldn't have been bossed around quite like that. The D has more chooch in her choch in the weapons area but its shields were not were it was at especially if you are referring to its seasons 1-2 configuration of TNG.
    Take your RBG Galaxy and pit it against steve P DW ambassador (is quantum outfitted) + Lakota. The final configurations or find the initial first configuration for the ships. Both ways would be interesting, putting them in similar spots in their life cycle.

    I wish Bridge Commander would take into account the size of the phaser strip when it comes to damage output. The main purpose of the phaser strip vs banks was that it allowed more phaser emitters to gather their energy into a single blast vs the two emitters in a phaser bank. In the ST TNG tech manual the Galaxy classes ventral and dorsal strip contained 200 phaser emitters within the strip. Even with the law of diminishing returns the strike from a Galaxy classes phaser strip would be immense. The larger the phaser strip the more energy it could output. So a Galaxy class should have the single largest damage per strike because of its immense size.

    • @crownprincesebastianjohano7069

      The game really nerfs the heavy phasers. The Galaxy Class' Type X phasers put out 120 hit points per beam. But a much smaller ship like the Ambassador puts out like 100 hit points. In reality, so to speak, the Type X was at least 40% stronger than the Type IX. The Type XII was 40% stronger than the Type X.

  • @getreal6124
    @getreal6124 4 месяца назад

    I seriously believe that when you're trying to comment that you're missing obvious things to improve your flying to avoid some damage. In the first battle when you were in the C, I was watching and you could see that the D was turning around and instead of you making your own turn left and avoiding largely its forward firing arc, you turned right which immediately put you into that and it destroyed you. So with obvious things like that, you can extend how long your ship lives if you're not turning back into a forward firing arc, where the other ship has a bigger advantage on you.

    Something's off balance here. On average the C torpedoes did 3.8% damage. Enterprise D is a beast but it would not take 26 photon torpedoes to drop 1 of 6 aspects of shields. That's insane. Each one the D torpedoes did 3-4x as much damage. Of course shield strengths would be different but not by a factor of 2x or more (alternatively the C generation of torpedoes wouldn't be so weak in comparison).
