Dominion War era kitbashes have a special place in me heart. I use to do this kinda stuff with the old plastic Micro Machine models using super glue when I was younger.
My headcanon that I made up is that the reason we see so many TMP kitbashes during the Dominion War is that Scotty helped make it work since he was around and likely working at Starfleet engineering 😊
😂😂 Makes perfect sense. He could turn anything into anything. I like that idea. Easily the greatest starfleet engineer of all time. They probably viewed him like Einstein 🖖
Yes, I'm still trying to find out how many loops they went through. 3333333333333... when I was a kid, I thought that was Data indicating that Riker might be right. There was no proof that the decompression would work, but otherwise they could be stuck in that loop (ominous voice) forever. 😄
I have always what the crew of the bozeman thought every time the loop occurred and they kept crashing into this strange starship that appeared out of nowhere.
Elkins has been know about for decades...On DITL its called the Griffon Class, and Ex Astris has the ship in Other Uncertain Starfeet vessels. If I was to change anything about this ship it would be the nacelles - I would change them to Intrepid versions and in terms of story the class was rushed into service and so were completed with existing stocks of TMP nacelles but later refit with Intrepids :)
Cool! Yes, the Nacelles don't make much sense. I can see how it would have been rushed into service during the Dominion War. I almost wonder if the Intrepid's nacelles would be too small. Maybe if it had some extra large ones, haha!
@RetroBadgerGaming The Intrepids nacelles should be fine as Elkins is similar in size to the actual Intrepid. I must check but this ship has 3 navigational deflector dishes. Yes it does lol - I suspect that power is not a problem for the class as it would likely use a Dual Warp Core configuration and the cores are likely to be individually less powerful than most cores but combined overpower them. 2 low maintenance cores like from the Nova Class would fit this
Two secondary hulls equals two warp cores. This means great shields and phaser power. It's as simple as that. Come on R.B. you know this stuff. Being an Admiral and all. 🙂👍
@@TobysKpopTop50 It does. The Proxima was a take on the Yamato or Yamamoto from Starfleet Academy, Klingon Academy, Starfleet Command 1, 2, and Starfleet Command Orion Pirates.
Love some of the more- Wild and wicked variants to these ships. I like the idea of ejecting warp cores and shedding engine nacelles that get damaged in battle or harsh conditions.
2:02 I recently commented on this but I feel like the Defiant-class had some complementary roles in a fleet but that is not how it was portrayed and they blew their one shot, no pun intended, at using the detachable "nose". That "last resort" weapon might be impressive but we never see it in action. Do any of the Defiant-class ship models come with this weapon? 5:33 Well, it *would* be in line with your engineering ship comment. Furthermore, I don't know if you recall this but the Nova-class actually has got a really potent shield recovery in canon. (45 seconds to fully recharge the shields, though they had to be dropped in order to facilitate this.)
The defiant in canon was more than capable of going up against upgraded excelsior's on even terms. Also you should try it with locking a tractor beam on the elkins and take it for a spin like the defiant did to that vorcha class vessel in way of the warrior.
@@RetroBadgerGaming selecting one of the four Fallback points causes you to auto-intercept the point, which will require maneuvering to face the direction to go. One other drawback is the fact that mass disruptor bolts can interfere (as with KM in-system warping).
The Elkins reminds me a lot of the Yeager class. Just one of those weird kit bashed designs. I think if it had extra power reserves then that would indicate they have two warp cores. Voyager apparently had two warp cores via MSD display but we only ever saw the one. I wonder if Worf was in command of the Defiant this particular match. Only he would say, "Perhaps today is a good day to die! Prepare for ramming speed!". I mean especially if you took out the bridge and they were in auxiliary control. Was it Miguel who said, "I believe we're in the clear." I was all, "Ya think!?!" So with no cloaking device for the Defiant is it the Sao Paulo renamed Defiant? As we know the second Defiant didn't have a cloaking device. As the Romulans had loaned Starfleet the cloak for the first Defiant. I swear there's phaser strips on the sides of the nacelles for the Defiant in front of the registry number. That's hilarious the game crashed after you rammed the Elkins lol.
Its interesting the Elkins has a single warp core above the two stardrives (rather than a core in each one). Probably better protection at a cost of less warp power?
Since a ship needs to rotate to spread the load on its shields, why not build a globe shaped ship (like a Borg sphere ship) with weapons all around? This way the ship can spin and the weapons aren't overworked, maximizing the coverage arc.
Feels like the Defiant was a little overnerfed here, it can definitely punch up, considering how long it took fire from the Borg in first contact. It should at least be a lot more durable.
can someone explain to me the thinking is with the double secondary hull?? twin main engineering ?? 1 engineering for warp?? other for weapons and shields???? edit: why did the defiant only use single beam and not its cannons?
The Elkins is one of many kitbahes on DS9 that was fleshed out (a bit) in the DS9 Technical Manual. It's one of the few decent looking ones, as most of the others look horrible!
At first glance: "Ugg... ugly kitbash" 1 minute in: "Eh, it's not so bad." Final thoughts: I think it would be significantly improved if the kitbash didn't have inside rounded edges and seams showing that clearly ought to be seamlessly attached to each other. Other than that... yeah, I'm kinda into it.
Honestly, the Elkins doesn't even look like it was built for or by Starfleet. It's just too janky of a kitbash for it to be an official design. It looks like something some post-battle scavengers would cobble together from floating wreckage, to be used as a pirate vessel or security ship for some really backwoods independent colony somewhere. Honestly, that would even make the matchup versus the Defiant make sense, if the Defiant was sent to investigate rumors of a Starfleet ship preying on civilian shipping in some far-flung corner of space.
😲ooh lol. I do like this one Admiral.. looks similar to the Yeager I saw MSR or Steve Peruski did, so many ships lol. and has power.. Hahaha... I stopped watching mid-fight, so I only made a bad joke, but as for the fight... that dual drive section provides more power. That's how they regenerated their shields. That's also how their phasers had so much more power. One more bad joke... I think Worf was captain that day... off to Sto'vo'kor. 😀 Today IS a good day to die.
..... it's hard to understand why you would say that it's impossible for the defiant to win that, as a defiant is supposed to be the far more maneuverable ship. Once again, it seems like your flying is not up to the usual standards, because two critical times you turn right into the forward firing Arc of the Elkins and basically critically damaged yourself because you're just not paying attention. One time, all you had to do was just resume your thrust vector to the right and you would have gotten under the ship and been able to fire at the point you were trying to fire at, and probably hurt the ship enough to where you could have continued flying and probably destroy it. So I don't get why you gave up on this one so easily and so fast relative to other times. Yes, however the Elkins was designed, the phasers are very accurate and they're more powerful. However, there was still plenty chance for the defiant to take and win that battle. I'd like to see you redo it honestly.
I love your work, I love your channel, you still rock completely...But. How in the name of all things holy, could you possibly not hate this kitbash LOL!!? It looks like a blue-eyed Wall-E wearing a very strange hat! It's awful. And also makes no sense. 80 or 100-year-old engines on it? So goofy.
