Hilarious and informative! So many moments "Yup, been there." Please make more of these. I haven't been able to make it out in like a year, and watching this just makes does my heart good.
Yes! That's kinda what I wanted to show, which is why I kept it long. I'll likely edit it down a little more in the future, but still want it to feel like it's a full surf session
Great idea, adds another dimension to the videos, transferring the ”in-the-moment-experience” of the surfing in a cool way. Hearing your reflections, reactions and interaction with fellow surfers live is also something I haven’t seen before. To mix these up with the classic narrated ones will provide great dynamics to the channel!
Excellent video! Your commentary is very informative! The thought processes go through at the moment you are catching/riding the waves are very refreshing to listen to. Thank you!
Hey man, I'm from Cornwall, UK and have been longboarding all my life. Iove your videos! One thing i must say is to keep your head down on the board (chin very close to board) while paddling as it increases power; proper longboarders way. Peace✌
This is my favorite video so far. Super informative and awesome to see a real session with all of the not-so-perfect moments. Makes me feel better about my sessions!
some great footage we can all relate to, this is REAL surfing trying to figure it all out, getting frustrations, and then glimpses of what your trying to achieve. The commentary is really good there are some great teachings here if you listen like trying to pick off some smaller waves rather than another close out In my experience the smaller ones usually have more shape plus i dont like big surf scares the hell outta me
Thanks!! Yes I'll totally be doing this more often. What it looks like I'll do is post a 'mic'd up' session every other week while I work on my larger more involved videos
If I were mic'd, we'd probably hear me singing whatever song I heard on the car radio, asking other surfers out there for the time, and a lot of self-talk, which I try to keep positive, avoiding negative comparison (the thief of joy). Then there's: "Okay, here it comes," and my mantra: "Paddling and popups, paddling and popups... " No, wait, "Fahhhhq!"😂 Yesterday, I went out in poor-to-fair 1-2' waves, only two other surfers there, and I told myself that if nothing else, I'd test out my hood, gloves, and boots. These actually helped my paddling and grip on the board, also made me want to stay out longer, and it was so much fun for me. Funny, I've noticed that whenever it's time to leave the beach, I ask for just one more good wave. And it usually turns out to be my best, go figure. Anyway, sorry for the long message. So cool that you got to see Ben in HB as you're two of my fave surfing YTers. This vid is helpful to hear and see for your thought processes on the water and responses w/each wave, instead of watching mostly highlights. So thanks, and pls do more like this!🤙
Awesome!! I'd have to say that my last wave is typically NOT my best wave haha! My best wave normally always comes at the beginning of the 2nd half for some reason. Glad you enjoyed!
I really enjoyed the live commentary (other than the paddling splash part). It's nice to know what decisions you are making and how you feel on the wave. I will definitely be working on staying higher up on the wave where the feeling of lift occurs. Great idea. Well done.
The commentary idea is great and also instructive. It's also good to see good waves and bad. I'd like to know how much waiting and how many bad waves you edited out, so what was the total session time? From my videos I've found that I usually get one ride every three minutes on average.
I only left out about two waves. Edited from 1.5 hours to 30 minutes. In the future I'll likely keep these at more of the 15-18 minute range, but we will see!
You should add time stamps if you can. I always love when surf videos that show a full session are time stamped to highlight how fast conditions can change for better or for worse. Love this video
Enjoyed this....something different. You notice the wave around the 25min mark, when you paddle left onto the wave instead of carving a turn left you end up higher on the face...just an observation 🤙
Hey Brian, thanks for all your great work! I love your openness and sharing what's going on in the water. Would you share what mic system your using and where you're placing your mic? The audio is soooo good!
Currently rehabing from knee surgery and am out of the water for a few months. Discovered you on my “forced downtime” and have been enjoying your vlogs immensely!!! Watching your mic’d blog…did you get to surf with Kani???? Anyway, keep it up, I’m a NJ long boarder in SP and am already planning to incorporate many of your tips! Yewwwwww 🤙🏻
Great to hear! I'm gonna be in your position in a couple months.. need to rehab my hip. I did get to surf with Kani! Well not with him, just near him haha. It was an insane thing to watch
They we're actually a little weird haha. Camera always makes them look better than they are typically, but they were still fun! This was on monday this week
Funny to hear someone say what they are thinking in the water. It would be for the better if people would do that more often.... People are dead silent and serious faces. While their inner dialog is similar to yours. Happy and stoked.
I am learning a lot listening you your thought process. Your videos are great and fun to watch.
That's great!! Thanks so much
Hilarious and informative! So many moments "Yup, been there." Please make more of these. I haven't been able to make it out in like a year, and watching this just makes does my heart good.
awesome! Yes I'm going to be posting more of these for sure!
What a great video!
This is what surfing is really all about. The “just catching waves “ videos are good. But this is what it’s really like 🤙🏻
Yes! That's kinda what I wanted to show, which is why I kept it long. I'll likely edit it down a little more in the future, but still want it to feel like it's a full surf session
I love this. You’re hilarious! I love the realness of East Coast surfing you’re sharing here. .
Thanks so much!!

Awesome! That's exactly my plan, to start adding some of these in between the usual vids! Glad people enjoyed it
Excellent video! Your commentary is very informative! The thought processes go through at the moment you are catching/riding the waves are very refreshing to listen to. Thank you!
Awesome! Thanks so much. Yea I would love to start posting some of these types of videos in between my normal ones
Excellent ! The immersion is total now ! Waw 😮
haha yes!
I can't believe there are no crowds!
We call this local summer in Jersey.
Yup, pretty standard here
This is an incredible idea!! Love it!
This is honestly the reality of most sessions. Not every ride is perfect, which in return makes you enjoy the good ones even more!
yes exactly!
I enjoyed hearing your thought process in real time. As a winter surfer in Maine and NH I had to chuckle when you saud it was chilly.
haha! Well chilly for the month. Hey, I surf winter NJ as well... so I do know the cold. JUst might not be quite as cold as maine hehe

Thanks! You know, iv'e been trying that paddle method you mentioned when taking my last few paddles into the wave. It helps!
This is my favorite video so far. Super informative and awesome to see a real session with all of the not-so-perfect moments. Makes me feel better about my sessions!
wow awesome!! I'll be doing more of these for sure

Loved it! Felt like I was in the water, too! 😊
Awesome thanks!!
I def liked the microphone session. That’s was pretty cool. Def do that more often

Awesome!! Sadly not much I can do about the splashing haha!
Nice, enjoyed listening to your commentary while surfing. 🤙
Thanks Jack! You've experienced this first hand haha!
Love it! On SO many levels 🤙
Awesome!!!

Surf looks great here tomorrow! Watching your vids makes me want to take the longboard. Appreciate them and keep it up!
Thanks so much! Go get it!
@@LongboardSessions took my longboard, it was a good choice, many long rides! (For Florida lol)
Thanks - great video!
you got it, thanks!

Ohh I gotcha, like have a time of day in the left corner or something. That could be possible
Awesome mate. Watching from Australia
Thanks!!
This was really cool. Nice work!
Thanks!!
This is gold!
Awesome, thanks!!
Love it Bri!! 🤙🏾
Thanks!!

Yes you're very right. On my faded takeoffs I often drop too low... a constant problem. But slowly workin on it!
Hey Brian, thanks for all your great work! I love your openness and sharing what's going on in the water. Would you share what mic system your using and where you're placing your mic? The audio is soooo good!
Thanks so much Doug! Message me on insta @longboard_sessions

Love the commentary style
Awesome!
wow is it last week?!! waves looked sick!
They we're actually a little weird haha. Camera always makes them look better than they are typically, but they were still fun! This was on monday this week
Loved this!!! ❤ YNWA
Thanks!!! ynwa!

Awesome! Yea that's basically what I'm doing.. whatever is going on in my head I'm just trying to say. However, I am known for talking to myself haha
An amazing idea! I'll add onde more, mix it with other people using mics and POV clips, it will add another atmosphere to your videos
Already have another mic in the mail for my buddies haha! The POV idea is good as well, but I'll wait a bit on that.
@@LongboardSessions Nice! It's going to be a blast😁
So this is what goes on in your head, it's not just Liverpool chants on repeat haha
This is only part of what goes on in my head... I don't think you're ready to see all of it
What device are you using to video??
for video I'm using a sony a6600 with a sony 200-600mm
What microphone did you use to record the audio while out in the water? Love all the content btw!
Thanks so much! This is the mic that comes with a zoom f2
You may have tapped into a new genera. I think its probably the first time i see live commentary on anything other than POV.
I hope so haha! Yea it is somewhat unique that's for sure. Hoping to keep doing it! As long as my mic's don't break haha
Awesome
Thanks!
Huntington is my home beach 🤙🤙
Oh sweet!
What’s the volume of your board? You’re either a buck fifty or the board is more than 90 L. Nice video/ audio.
haha! I'm not actually sure of the volume, but I weight 135 and the board is 9'6"
Nice.
What country
USA
Why not just use a leash?
