- You’ve heard of Grand Theft Auto, Red Dead Redemption, and Max Payne, but have you ever heard of a little British film called The Football Factory?
Rockstar Games is a leader in making games with a cinematic flair, so it’d only make sense that the gaming giant would try its hand at making movies too. And, as it turns out, the team did -- A little British film called The Football Factory.
Join Kurt Indovina on his discovery of the film, as he tries to examine an entire sub-genre and culture of England through the lens of his British colleagues Adam Mason and Lucy James.

"football, not the american kind, BUT THE REST OF THE WORLD KIND"
Just saying that if rdr2 story would be a movie it would win oscars.
Protagonist actor would be nominated to an oscar too
No.
@@notoldimvintage3349 They've done plenty of comic storylines justice though.
@@notoldimvintage3349 Even outside of Superhero movies we have Oldboy, 300, Men in Black, A History Of Violence, Richy Rich, Snowpiercer, Bulletproof Monk, The Mask, 30 Days Of Night, Little Orphan Annie etc. So i don't think it's at all comparable to how games or anime are treated when adapted.
@@notoldimvintage3349 I kinda get what your saying when it comes to some Superhero stories. Like for example Marvel's Civil War which is very different in the comics but it's never been the case for comic books in general compared to how video games and anime are treated by Hollywood.
Makes perfect sense to me that Rockstar would be involved. It’s basically a rockstar game the film, it’s British it’s crime.
It's not the British kind of football. It's the absolutely everywhere in the world except the US kind of football 😁
Exactly. Another butt of a million stupid States jokes... and while some of the humour may be stupid, that's not what I'm referring to.
Rockstar's background perfectly matches with this movie tbh. I can totally imagine rockstar to make a game based on Hooligan culture. infact I think they even did. remember the game "The Warriors", that game also had rebellion street gangs. the only difference is, it was set in 70s america
Football Factory is a classic here in the UK
Exactly. I've seen it multiple times and most of my friends have seen it.
It's not just British football, it's the world's football.
I watched this movie without knowing it was a Rockstar Games film lmao
Not sure hooligan is a sub genre, I can only think of this and Green Street
There was a massive list I found, most of which had Hooligan in the name. But Football Factory, 1989s The Firm, and Greet Street seems to be the big ones.
Football hooligan movies are an actual sub genre, still going strong today.
The reason you never looked at is tax or grants, that’s right the motivation in all things, money. There is a UK Film Tax Relief (FTR) credit amongst other things. So it wouldn’t surprise me since Rockstar back then was or had large UK exposure. There may be no rhyme nor reason to investment in the Football Factory other than Rockstars accountants sprinkling their special sauce over the books and for whatever reason an allocation of funds were available for such a project due to a tax credit or government grant requirement.
And I thought finally a new video from Kurt Indovina’s Channel 😂
Got me GameSpot!
It’s still me! Just... well, on GameSpot’s channel instead.
manager: did you find what you looking for?
Kurt: yes, of course
manager: what did it cost you?
Kurt: me accent Fam.................... joking great work on this project btw
I’m now actually 100% British. Just ask my coworkers. They love that I drink my tea black and my accent...
Honestly if Rockstar were to ever go the Movie/TV route, It'd be cool to see them test the waters with a 10 episode Bully miniseries or an adaptation of Red Dead Redemption
I’d take another path with your theories. Since they made mini movies for gta 2, San Andres and Red Dead, maybe there was a hooligan type game in development at one point and this was a companion project. The game fizzled but the side movie grew?
The use of music straight out of future and past gta games is definitely Rockstar and the flashy editing in montages reminds of their trailers. It's clear the bulk of the movie is steered by the director, but RS edits these scenes with similar music and styles from gta imo.
Quality once again, Kut!
Also, Megatron cameo!
Thank you for coming by and watching once again! And I can’t stop my cats from being in this show if they want to be.
@@KurtIndovina In fact, they should be on camera more.
Dogobots inferior, Decepticats superior!
I love the British accent
Really digging on this series y'all got going!

they released state of emergency in 2002 which is basically hooligan mayhem.
I have the most fondest memory of renting that at my local grocery store (yes grocery store). I wonder how that’s held up...
I saw that movie when it first came out but never knew that Rockstar had anything to do with it. Pretty good movie from what I remember.
«Kurt is wonderful lad!»
But Max Payne 3 was a movie with interactive shooting sections
Football Factory was alright, I had no idea it was Rockstar
What is a football hooligan movie? It is a genre of movies that look like they've all been shot on VHS about 'geezers 'avin it' and no one on planet earth has yet managed to make a single one that is any good.
I remember this movie being mentioned on All Your History Are Belong To Us
Just wanted to say GTA 6 ain't never coming out.
The Football Factory fits perfectly with the brand Rock Star. The film same as Rock Stars games don't put a moral judgement on it, like you insist of doing. The film not being a succes doesn't mean it's not, it developed into a huge cult film and not just for Football fans.
Was probably them seeing how a films made so they can step up the film feeling in their games.
I don't remember it because I never knew about it, and most people don't know about it.
that's a very masculine movie innit
oi bruv
Just dropped by to say that GTA 6 doesn't exist.
It do tho
It's being made Rn
You *know* it's in development, lol. Pretty sure they confirmed briefly in an article/interview awhile ago they are working on it, but even if they didn't you KNOW they'd already be working on the next entry to their most profitable series, even if it's years in the works before we see it.
I remember when they didn't milk the same game for 7 years
*almost 7 years
@@MidnightClubStillCancelledSoz are you a rockstar employee? My bad in 17 days it will be 7 years
They worked on red dead 2 while milking it... and if gtav still makes alot of money then of course they'll still keep supporting it
@@jimmyjab190 at the time gta 5 was impressive but I don't get why so many still play it everything is dated now especially the mechanics , eh maybe in 10 years we will get a new one once the kids stop buying shark cards
They made RDR 2 with that money.
That's the shittest cup of tea I've ever seen
I still believe that they should make a gta about football firms and uk drill/grime
Loved football factory! 😍
Bon Giovi/Jovi was in a Vampire movie.
"Los Muertos" I think it's called.
He is a Rockstar... 🍺🍺🍺😎🎶🎸
Great content as always!
Hey, thanks for that Léo
I want a bully movie
Dude, yes. I just want another Bully, SO BAD.

Well , you should have said, Football - The British Kind, where the sport is actually played by FOOT !
Who else thought it was shit in a toilet in the intro.
It’s symbolic
@@KurtIndovina Oh. Like British tea talk?
It's weird that no one got back in touch with you.
They also did the low rider doco
GTA games are HEAVILY influenced by films. The Housers love gangster films, I can totally see them funding a few film projects with some of that sweet GTA money.
Presented by “Post It”
I WISH. That’d be an actual dream come true
KURT COME BACK TO RUclips
I’m technically still most definitely on RUclips... just the GameSpot channel.
I used to love this movie, but I never suspected it was produced by Rockstar.
That producer's drafting table...
Rockstar Games' MO in its earlier years was to capture "cool", I'd argue they failed at that lol. But that's what they purposefully set out to do. It would make sense to branch out to other mediums like film and make films about football hooliganism and lowriders. It's just neither of them were all that successful.
Lol watching football factory and just spotted rockstar games I was like wait what ahah never noticed till now
Rockstar should just make more films instead of milking some games.
Why?! Bro your toast is so burnt!!
Dude this is like normal toast. It’s not even black.
Dude love your vids
Hey! Thank you for this. Really appreciate you coming by and saying so.
Brittish football? You mean like, the rest-of-the-world football? 😆🇸🇪
Never knew Don’t Be A Menace inspired San Andreas...
Executive producer just means the pretty funded the movie... very little involvement 🤷🏽♂️
Remember when Rockstar made games 🤔
Love this guy
Remember the last 3 games rockstar made. GTA and RDR2 comes to mind. Forgot the third one.
Max Payne 3 or L.A. Noire?

Remember when Gamespot had good hosts?
Hey jimbo121! I think GameSpot still have great hosts. Sorry you don’t seem too fond of me, and that’s okay - you don’t have to be. Just know that I make the best content I can for GameSpot, and maybe one day you’ll see through me, and enjoy the show.
@@KurtIndovina I've been following GameSpot since about 2007 and I've seen many hosts. I miss some of the excellent people that have left, but there are also excellent people that have joined over the years that are very good - like you. One can never please everyone, but I think your work on this series in particular is excellent, keep at it :)
No of course people don’t know about it so here you are making a video telling us about it.
Wow British kind? Felt offended 😂
I've just remembered that gta 6 Doesn't exist :(
At this point we dont care rockstar makes any remakes we demand gta 6
Didn't they already make a movie called red dead redemption 2? Oh wait..
Not the American kind... What you on about, bruv?
Must have been low budget
Simple answer. It’s a tax break.
L.A NOIRE the Best !!!
Yes to this! 8000%

Remember when Rockstar make GTA VI? No? Ok.
No
GTA 6 coming 2090

why? money laundering.
When Rockstar making games like classic GTA or Max Payne series, I thought they wouldn't let their fans down. But now after they milking gta online.... Well they start to become the next EA.

We call gangs gangs what is this guy talking about and you should watch top boy it's London culture .
In the movie the gangs were referred to as firms. Don’t know if it’s just a hooligan thing or not. Don’t get lemon.
@@KurtIndovina the is no such thing as hooligans I'm telling you that as a British and you British boss don't sound modern she sounds like she was born 80 years ago uk slang is totally different .
Haris then why is there entire genre of movie called hooligan movies, and documentaries made about it? You’re confusing me.
@@KurtIndovina that's some old stuff nothing we do these days are culture has changed completely .
This video was very nice for an IGN Video
I hope it’s a very nice video for GameSpot video too... since that’s what it is. And not an IGN video. But still, thanks.

Im glad that i didnt ask you 🤡
remember when rockstar games didn't have online modes
Yeah those sure were some sad times the games were fun but online keeps you playing longer.
@@jakpickles6522 online mode is mainly just microtransactions and copy paste contents
JackPicklston I would much rather have a good dlc than a online mode
Micro-transactions you don’t have to buy and gta v online is almost like a completely different game. I would also like a new single player dlc but if we aren’t getting that then I’ll just take online. And I’m sure they would make a single player dlc even though they are making lots of money off of online. They just haven’t chosen to make a dlc.
