The NFL is mainly concerned with how many people want to see the performance as opposed to which artist from the city they can have on stage. Kendrick made hit songs beefing with Drake and has gain a lot of listeners plus viewers. Especially when he had his concert in LA in the Forum that brought more viewership and listeners. Just because you’re from that hometown and want to perform they’ll think about it but in the business world NFL wants to gain more traction & viewership towards the product plus the sponsorships.

The Superbowl is a national broadcast, it doesn't matter what city it's in. The NFL is mainly concerned with how many people want to see the performance as opposed to which artist from the city they can have on stage. My thing is why Does the NFL not pay the performers??? And I know what they will say they are getting paid through advertising them, and I call bull on that. I mean, the NFL had tax-free status for over 49+ years unitl 2015, I think they have the money to pay they make over 13 billion a year now
It does pay but union scale so only about 1k. The performers pay for the show to be more elaborate. I think the highest cost was The Weeknd and that show was amazing. It has to be a spectacle not just the artist performing their songs. You can tell who paid more than who for their performance. The cost is for production not for the NFL
The networks charges $4 mill per 30 secs for companies to play their commercials. The NFL sees it as they're giving artists 10 mins free of that fee to the networks on the biggest platform. That's why they tend to target artist who are hot on the charts, about to drop a project or about to go on tour. They use it to generate a buzz on what they have coming up.

I understand Lil Wayne did say a while back that he wanted to perform in the Super Bowl in his hometown. Lil Wayne hasn’t made new song in a while and didn’t make enough public appearances. Kendrick made hit songs beefing with Drake and has gain a lot of listeners plus viewers. Especially when he had his concert in LA in the Forum that brought more viewership and listeners. Just because you’re from that hometown and want to perform they’ll think about it but in the business world NFL wants to gain more traction & viewership towards the product plus the sponsorships.
