He’s much more likable and personable than I’d imagined him. It’s nice to see an actor talking who really just loves acting. He’s not trying to make it look glamorous or excessively deep, just honest. This was a really intriguing watch.
Likeable and personable aren't words I'd use to describe him after working with him on The Prestige years ago. Dedicated, obsessive, brilliant, yes, but not likeable. I think it's hard for anyone so focused to be personable.
I was so happy that you included Empire of the Sum. I thought you would not, but of course, the list would certainly be incomplete without it. His acting was truly incredible in the movie and not a bit 'for his age'; no indeed. It was completely, regardless of his age, incredible.
I completely agree. Patrick Bateman was a narcissist with little-to-no personality, just like Christian Bale. I suppose you could say that anger constitutes a personality trait, but to me that's invalid.
Had Christoph Waltz been hired to play Patrick Bateman, people would be saying: "He was always THE perfect fit for Patrick Bateman". Or Gary Oldman. Or Viggo Mortensen. Or Robert De Niro, if he'd been a little younger. Or pretty much ANY FAKKING top-tier actor working with that same director, on that same film, in an alternate universe. Or even, lol, Jason Bateman.
Christian is the king of method acting, hands down. The sheer dedication he puts into practically becoming most of his characters (e.g. Bateman & Trevor) is truly awe inspiring.
Pauly shore in Bio Dome might have been the same character he played in everything , aka Pauly Shore. That doesnt make him any worse, in fact Id take the weasel over daniel day lewis any day
Man, as soon as you hear his real voice vs. the stilted Patrick Bateman voice he crafted for that role, it makes you appreciate his performance even more
He did it the Bateman on and off set during production as well; some of the cast and crew didn’t even realize he was British until the wrap party when he started to use his real accent lmao
He kept preparing for the role in “American psycho” even after they gave it to other people, that’s law of attraction right there. What a dedicated man.
It blows my mind how this man doesn’t have a Best Actor Oscar yet. His commitment and devotion to roles is second to none. Truly one of the most unique actors of his generation.
Can't believe that The Prestige didn't make the list for this. One of my favorite of Christian Bale's roles, since the character he plays is so unique and interesting
Christian is one of the rare character actors. He doesn’t approach a role as an actor playing a person; he immerses himself into becoming that person for the next several weeks or months. This is why he and Heath were so great in Batman; one can suspend reality and begin to believe you’re watching these two real people like it’s a nightly news story.
It’s called method acting. Used to be a common style of acting, until some controversies regarding the affect on mental health arose. Heath ledger is a prime example of what method acting can do to someone’s mental state
I didn't know he was British until I saw him doing interviews on TV for Batman Begins. Edit: I had the same reaction to Idris Elba. "Stringer Bell is English???"
The Machinist was , well, I don't know how to describe it. I couldn't believe what I was watching and couldn't look away. Just incredible acting, and you would never believe he could survive that weight loss without damage. Then the reckoning of clarity at the end.
Christian does all the things actors aren't supposed to do. He's a successful child actor, been married for over 20 years, is gracious, doesn't take himself to seriously, and if he gets pegged for playing one character..he's OK with it. I also love seeing him talk about Heath.
His most iconic role is Patrick Bateman due to the popularity of sigma male/literally me stereotype that has been popularized by popular and viral chinese company Tik Tok
@@johnnyappleseed4750 There will be a lot of Batman actors but only one Patrick Bateman. That's why I think this will be his most iconic and remembered role for a long time.
Christian Bale is like a unicorn in Hollywood. Intelligent & articulate without the script, talented, down to earth and mysterious, has unique&great taste, brilliant sense of humor, no plastic, botox in his face (you can immediately see it by the natural wrinkles on his face), with one woman for over 20 years.
I think the machinist is the best for me, the way Bale transformed himself, to make the transformation be a part of the current situation for the character, it really portrays one person under two different states in life, and it's not CGI or make up, it's real. Amazing stuff.
THIIIS! ford v Ferrari is one of my favorite movies ever and I watch it many many times it’s such a sensation to my heart!!! It’s a big part of my life racing and to see such an icons story be told and so wonderfully by Christian and as well as Matt Damon…they were perfect
The humility he displays here is almost jaw dropping to me. When he said he was initially excited to take on the Batman movies so he could pay off his house is - it's incredible. It's so remarkably modest and humble it's hard to believe. It's not even like he was some unknown quantity at that point either, he was well established by then, that I can't believe that it would be any part of his decision making. A deeply genuine person.
Accepting the challenge of playing Batman because "If I don't have the skill to rise above that, then I don't deserve to" is exactly the mentality that makes Bale one of the best actors in the world. Impressive is an understatement for this guy. Pure genius at his craft.
this guy is literally the tim duncan of actors. He doesn't care how he dresses or what vehicle he drives. Dude is just a great actor and one of the greatest in the industry.
Yes. It was incredible how he was willing to spend almost a year prepping for the part he most likely will not get. He was pretty much an unknown at that point, so spending one year not having any active project in Hollywood was an extremely risky career move.
Somebody who understands his characters too much, gone deep into their life, but remains unaffected, unharmed in his real life. Bale and Denzel are my absolute favs.
Christian Bale should be the google definition of an actor. the physical and mental commitment to his roles is honestly not normal, it's legit extraordinary.
Because true psychopaths are always good. They act like they are the best people on the planet when, in reality, they had opportunities others didn't / couldn't dream of because of luck or being born in a certain family.
The fighter, his weight loss made him sleep less and more energetic, mentally. I find that fascinating on so many levels! I get about six hours of sleep at night and wake up feeling well rested… I asked the doctor about this. And he says your body is very lean and proficient and only needs this much rest. More than that would be ok but not necessary….
@Johnny Caruthers im not sure if you're being serious or not. Ben Stiller doesnt seem very versatile to me. Two actors i think are probably as good and versatile as Christian Bale are Gary Oldman and Brad Pitt.
Jeff Bridges is also a truly versatile actor, when you think about how different the characters he played in The Big Lebowski and Crazy Heart were, not to mention all the roles he's had before, in between, and after those films.
My suspicion is that, whenever they skip an obvious movie, it's because the actor didn't want to talk about it. Which is understandable, I'm sure not every film shoot goes smoothly, with the actor getting along with everybody, loving their co-stars and directors etc. Which makes these videos kinda dishonest in a way, cos all we ever hear about is the ones that went well. But hearing actors say nice things about each other is nicer than gossip, so I don't mind.
I'm really happy that he talked about Empire of the Sun, one of my top 10 favorite films. I've loved it since I was younger than Bale was in that movie.
The prestige is ,imo, the best Nolan movie .by FAR. Most cinephile know about it and love it ,however the average watcher doesn’t ,which is a shame The way the different timelines are handled is so elegant and beautiful ,never seen anything quite like it
It was refreshing to hear Bale talk so much about the actual experience he had with Ledger together instead of focusing on the downwards spiral of the performance, Ledger's mental health, and the eventual tragedy. Just a sweet acknowledgement that he truly misses him. That's a true fan, peer, and friend.
A lot of that was just media-sensationalized myth. Everyone that worked with him on TDK said that the dude was having a blast on set, including Bale. Issues in his personal life likely had a much bigger role in his death than the role, but that’s not as interesting of a story than Ledger losing his mind to the role in the eyes of the media and gossipers.
What he said about playing Batman was incredible, and I wish more actors / actresses thought that way. Just because you play a timeless part in a movie franchise doesn't mean you can't be a great character in a totally different film!
But what he said about having the skill to act around that is also very true. Like as much as I love him as an actor Ryan Reynolds will always be Deadpool his standard humor and delivery of how he speaks is what made Deadpool so great but that being said he would have to completely change the way he acts and speaks to make me think of something else.
I actually don't ever think of Christian Bale as a single role and he is maybe one of the few actors I feel that way about. He has been in so many really good movies and such a variety of roles that I can think of several.
I think a lot of it has to do with him having the ability to change his appearance so thoroughly for each role that a lot of other actors just don't have. Most actors look pretty much the same role to role, so it can ruin the immersion by your brain just acknowledging it's that actor instead of that character.
You know someone is a good actor when there isn't time to talk about films they've made like "Little Women", "Ford vs. Ferrari", "Equilibrium", "Reign of Fire", "The New World", "The Prestige" or "Hostiles". His ability to pick interesting material, and to turn in consistently excellent performances across an array of genres is unmistakable.
His dedication and “100% all in” mentality for every role he does makes him one of the best and probably most under-appreciated actors of this generation. A class above
Christian Bale is absolutely one of the greatest actors of our generation. He’s such a chameleon, and the dedication to his craft is on another level. Too bad they skipped The Prestige b/c it’s one of my favorite films of his.
He's up there with Brando and has perhaps proven himself almost as good as Day-Lewis. He still might transcend to those heights. I wouldn't be suprised if he has it in him.
Great shout. Its, by some distance, my favourite Nolan movie. The chemistry between the two leads is excellent, however it's the twist with regards "The Great Dantes" trick that really left an impression. It's truly macabre, and almost nudges the film into Horror territory. Imagine doing that to yourself, literally, night after night, just for plaudits.
He definitely remembers. He loves Studio Ghibli movies. After he saw Spirited Away, he said he wanted to be in a Ghibli movie, and he would take any role no matter how small, and fortunately he got Howl

Also, being known for an iconic role is OK!
But what he said about having the skill to act around that is also very true. Like as much as I love him as an actor Ryan Reynolds will always be Deadpool his standard humor and delivery of how he speaks is what made Deadpool so great but that being said he would have to completely change the way he acts and speaks to make me think of something else.
yes to all lol
Now if he did need to pay his house we wouldn't have him lol
I actually don't ever think of Christian Bale as a single role and he is maybe one of the few actors I feel that way about. He has been in so many really good movies and such a variety of roles that I can think of several.
Christian Bale & Gary Oldman - neither has been pigeon-holed into any particular role or genre and both are absolute masters at their craft
I think a lot of it has to do with him having the ability to change his appearance so thoroughly for each role that a lot of other actors just don't have. Most actors look pretty much the same role to role, so it can ruin the immersion by your brain just acknowledging it's that actor instead of that character.
To me he's Batman and Bateman
Lies again? Apex Predator Institute College
As opposed to someone like The Rock, who literally just plays himself in any film
He did indirectly say that he didn't like Equilibrium and Reign of Fire, so that's probably why those aren't mentioned
and Terminator 4 Salvation
I also liked him in these movies ;)
@@djwhitepeople That's a shame as I thought it was a good film and he was ideal for it.
He was amazing in Ford vs Ferrari.
I could listen to Christian all day. He’s hands down of my favorite actors of all time. I’ve loved him since he played Laurie in ‘Little Women’
I'm not even exaggerating when I say, Bale's performance in American Psycho is one of the best ever on screen
So true ! Going to watch it for the 100th time right now 😅
@@YasmineBenkiran same 😭❤️
Great comment, now if you'll excuse me, I have to return some video tapes
Impressive. Very nice.
Let's see Paul Allen's performance.
@@TimechainSolutions Haha 😂 I know that reference
His dedication and “100% all in” mentality for every role he does makes him one of the best and probably most under-appreciated actors of this generation. A class above
ok
Easily the best actor of all time
christian bale is definitely not under appreciated lmao. Won of the world most renowned actors.
@@dyl40011 just mean in terms of his dedication to his roles and entertainment value, he’s so consistent 👏
It’s truly amazing how Christian was able to transform himself into a young boy in Empire of the Sun. Wow!
Wish they had a laughing emoji for this comment 😆

Yes 🙌🏼 superb talent
I love how much he knows his characters you can tell he really did the research and was immersed in them
Christian Bale is absolutely one of the greatest actors of our generation.
Oh goodness! I loved the The Prestige. I'm so glad you mentioned it!
It shows how great his resume is that they didn’t even get to all his roles.
i like the reign of fire
I bet Bale doesn't even remember doing 'Howl's Moving Castle' but I'll always have the softest spot in my heart for him for Howl alone
"That's my girl"
~Batman
Yes, me too! He made Howl all the more charming!
Yes, it was amazing and fantastic his beautiful expressive voice! I wonder if he still remembers. It would be cool for him to talk about it.
He definitely remembers. He loves Studio Ghibli movies. After he saw Spirited Away, he said he wanted to be in a Ghibli movie, and he would take any role no matter how small, and fortunately he got Howl
Same here ❤ one of my favorites he’s done
This is the first time I’ve seen him as himself. It really puts into perspective how great he’s been in all of his roles
He’s just a normal person like everyone else doing a job.
That's the problem with people who pretend to be someone likeable for a Living...they all play a character in interviews.
