  • Record drums, bass and guitar guide tracks in GarageBand iOS (iPhone/iPad)
With my chord progressions and song structure in place, it's time to lay down some guide tracks in GarageBand on my iPhone, so in this video, I show how to quickly create some basic drums using "Drummer" and a bass line using the "autoplay" feature of the smart bass. I then grab the acoustic guitar and record a guide track so that I'm now ready to start working on the arrangement, vocals and additional instruments.
Included in the video is a heap of tips and tricks that can help speed up your GarageBand iPhone or GarageBand iPad workflow, and make recording your songs quick, simple and effective.

Great job! Next time bring your narration voice down to match the recording. Had to keep turning up and down while watching.

Thanks Dave. Yes, it is hard to balance the volumes as it sound different when I'm listening live compared to in the recording afterwards. I will take more time in editing to check this next video. Appreciate the feedback!

Can you make a video the opposite way? I want to add in my own drums but let the app add bass and guitar.

Bass and guitar require a little more programming generally. I do cover recording these in other videos. Perhaps check out this one - ruclips.net/video/ujH5BmY8hH0/видео.html

    Nice one.
    Quick question:
When you’re doing the dummy track it actually records a 3 minute audio (which you then delete).
Do you know how file management is being done so that the file won’t actually take space on the iPad? How can you tell it is actually being deleted and not just stay in the projects folder?

Hi there. I have a series coming up on GarageBand file management so will explore this more then.
I’m short, while you are in a project, GarageBand will keep any deleted audio files in its undo cache for a little while at least, but when you exit a project it will purge any previous audio to save space.
