Your lessons are priceless. I’m constantly shocked at how rude, demanding, and ungrateful some folks are. Fortunately, they are outnumbered by decent, appreciative people. Thank you!
Yup 100%. And don’t worry, I’ve developed skin so thick in the last 6 years that I really don’t lay any attention these days. Like you say, most folks are simply awesome.
You can creat a flange/roll type effect on the snare/toms/symbols by adding additional 3 or 4 additional hits before the beat hit and turning the velocity right down for them in the editor. So your normal snare hit (S) would have lower velocity hits (s) in the before it, like this sssS. You have to zoom right in so you can get the fastest beats per bar for it to work. This creates a stick flange or roll on the drum and sounds a natural way to start fills etc. Also sounds good on the hit hat etc.
I always make sure to turn quantization and velocity sensitivity off on the virtual drums, otherwise quantization is kind of like autocorrect (sometimes it’s useful but usually it gets it wrong) and velocity sensitivity has no idea how hard/fast I’m actually tapping the screen so it always comes out random. Pro tip for virtual drums: Record the low tones and the high tones on separate tracks. With different drum tracks if you want to, but on separate tracks. I had this idea and tested it out recently and wish I’d been doing it before. The high tones are always like three times louder than the low tones so if you play them on separate tracks, you can adjust the volumes separately and it’s a lot faster than doing automation on them. Importing to the Sampler is something I never knew!
Great additional tips here! Yes, separating out the drums can be a great strategy. I’ve used his when using a hybrid drums/drummer method. And glad I could show you something new with the sampler. Stay tuned for my “DIY custom drum kit” video coming soon. 👍
@@PeteJohnsMusic I struggle with not getting a riff or idea down as soon as I think of it and as I recall G B never was so complicated, I could play a guitar riff and it would record it until I stopped, none of this 2,4 & 8 bar having to be put in before you start, I find it stifling in that way so probably will go back to Studiomini XL for its simplicity 😢🙄
I’ve been using a midi drumkit through GarageBand for a while now, but my son (who is the real drummer in the house) wants to upgrade to an acoustic kit. Hi Pete. Can I connect my Roland V-drums to an iPad? I would like to play midi notes on my electronic drums and use drum sounds from garageband. Is this possible or do I need mac or pc for this? Fantastic channel. Thanks!
Yep, 100%. You just need a lightning to USB adapter (assuming you’re drums have USB MIDI out - otherwise you’ll need a MIDI to USB adapter too) and then you can use your drums as a MIDI controller. Check out this video where I show the concept on a keyboard. Going to do a video with my electronic drums soon too. ruclips.net/video/RANCX1nnR6g/видео.html

Hello Pete, I have a quick question and I’m hoping you might be able to help- I am currently working on a project and I’m having issues opening a shared garage band session on my iPad. I download the zipped .band session file from google drive into my GarageBand file transfer folder and it all works fine. But when I open it in garage band I get an error message that says “Can’t open song: the song you are trying to open is damaged or is in a format that GarageBand can’t read”. I’m not sure why it’s doing this as the file doesn’t appear corrupted in any way until I import it into GarageBand. Further information you might need to know is that the session was created on an iPad running IOS14 and my iPad is running IOS12. Any information you may have, would be incredibly helpful and appreciated. Have a wonderful day, Art
Hey Art. I think I answered this on another video? You’ll need to be using the same version to be compatible. Otherwise they can send you individual audio files / ruclips.net/video/VallQgBz24E/видео.html

Hey there my friend. When you say very low, is that when you are recording the tracks or playing back? And what sort of music are you recording (eg. Virtual instruments, real instruments, vocals etc) Usually you can use the things like compression, volume and clip gain to increase volume but it depends on the actual issue. Let me know some more details and I’ll try to help you out.
Hey there. Perhaps consider importing the exported track back in to GarageBand and mastering it to boost the volume? Here’s a video where o show how to do this. ruclips.net/video/AKPwwGjnN4w/видео.html
Jobb Make sure the volume on your iPad is up. For some reason the developers made that a thing. Before the big update that wasn’t the case but it is now. I had a similar problem myself and simply raising the volume on the iPad fixed it.
What’s up Pete do you know how to make a church choir and add it to your vocals so it can make your voice sound like you are in a church with other people. If you do can you please make a video on how to do it
Hey there my friend. So there are a bunch of effects that hat you can okay with to do this. Nine of them work perfectly but are worth experimenting with. Here’s a video about the vocal transformer that is worth trying out - ruclips.net/video/SVdg4bY7Tgg/видео.html The best way honestly is to just layer multiple parts and add a healthy dose of reverb to them, as well as panning to the left and right to spread out the sound.
Hi there. There are some percussion drum kits in the “Drums” instrument. You can also use one of the “percussion” drummers in the virtual drummer instrument. I’m making a video about percussion soon so make sure you are subscribed. 👍
Hey there. Yes, most of the acoustic kits have a rim shot sound. You may need to add it in if you’re using he beat sequencer as it is not in there by default. It is often called “side stick” too. On the manual drums, just tap on the very edge of the snare to get a rim shot instead.
