    Oh my hear we go..I’m only a 3rd through this tutorial and I had to put it on pause to ask this question Pete..and the first comment was from someone that said that they use a lot of vocal effects because they don’t like their own voice.... and that is my question..why do a lot of singing people say they don’t like their own voice when it’s recorded..I for one am among those same people..I’ve been getting ready to dive in and start laying vocals down..going to finish watching this video.. and am hoping to hear back from you..on the subject of why we or I don’t like my voice when recorded.. but it’s sounds good when not recorded..maybe you can make a tutorial on this or already have one in your archives..thanks again and again for all your help buddy cheers

    I don't like the sound of my voice so I usually add a lot of effects to it. Yours sounds good with just a touch of chorus on it.

    • @PeteJohnsMusic
      @PeteJohnsMusic  5 лет назад +7

      Yeah I didn’t actually mind the chorus effect on this vocal. I think it suits the genre. And it took me years (actually, decades) to be able to tolerate the sound of my own voice. Now I embrace the imperfections and consider it just my unique style! Almost all of my favourite singers have very unique sounds. Perfection is boring. 😅

    Hi Pete, how are you doing? Pete, right now I do not have an audio interface nor a professional condenser mic. All i have to record vocals is a Shure MV88 condenser that I connect directly in my Iphone 7. • @PeteJohnsMusic
      @PeteJohnsMusic  4 года назад +1

      Hey there Daniel. I have a Shure MV88 and it is a great mic for mobile recording. If you have the original version, the challenge is that it doesn’t have a headphone jack, meaning it’s not great for multi-track recording as you can’t play back one track whole recording another. If however you just want to record some acoustic guitar/vocal it actually does a really good job.

    • @danielangi2311
      @danielangi2311 4 года назад +1

      Pete Johns Hey Pete. Thank you for the reply. I am really happy to hear that this mic does a great job recording guitars and vocals! do you know how to make a stretched fade in effect on vocals??

    • @PeteJohnsMusic
      @PeteJohnsMusic  5 лет назад

      Hey there. What exactly Are you referring to here? Like a long reverb or delay tail? If you can send me an example I can see what I can find.

      Pete Johns here’s the effect. it’s the effect in the intro of this video ruclips.net/video/fzp9XIaMu0c/видео.html

    • @PeteJohnsMusic
      @PeteJohnsMusic  5 лет назад +1

      Gotcha! Yeah, this is an interesting one. GarageBand itself may lack the tools needed to do this effectively, as you can’t really do any smoothing of the looped sample as in this example.
      I have experimented with clipping the first syllable and reversing this for a similar effect, but I think you may actually struggle to create exactly this effect in GarageBand.
      I suggest posing this question to an online forum such as the GarageBand Users Facebook group as someone there may have some ideas. studiolivetoday.com/gbu

    I have an issue with my mic no matter how loud I sing it doesn’t pick up my voice very well so I have to turn compression up to make it louder which can lead to background noise. I have a blue yeti which is a great mic. I honestly think it’s my phone

    • @PeteJohnsMusic
      @PeteJohnsMusic  5 лет назад

      Hmmmmm..... that’s odd. Does the Yeti have an input gain dial that you can use to adjust the input volume at all?

    • @texastalk1412
      @texastalk1412 5 лет назад +1

      Pete Johns I can adjust the gain the problem is it picks up more background noise

    • @PeteJohnsMusic
      @PeteJohnsMusic  5 лет назад

      Yeah, it can be a challenge to get that balance right for sure. Do you have the same issue on a PC/Mac?

    • @texastalk1412
      @texastalk1412 5 лет назад +1

      Pete Johns no it works just fine on a mac

    • @PeteJohnsMusic

      Could be a power issue. Have you tried using it through a powered USB hub or using a Lightning to USB 3 adapter?

    How to you use a mic and headphones at the same time in the iPhone?

    • @PeteJohnsMusic
      @PeteJohnsMusic  4 года назад

      Hey there. You can either use a headset with a mic built in, headphones and the internal mic, or a USB mic which has its own headphone jack built in.

    • @PeteJohnsMusic

      Hey there my friend. Are you looking for effects to add to strings? I generally just use some compression and reverb on my strings. ruclips.net/video/noDT5pSuV64/видео.html

    A good vocal app is an app called. Voice Synth. Its actually pretty cool it can also be used as a plug in. You should check it out

    • @PeteJohnsMusic
      @PeteJohnsMusic  5 лет назад

      Nice one! I shall add it the the (ever growing) lit of apps to check out. What does it do specifically?

    • @brokechain4240
      @brokechain4240 5 лет назад +1

      It is a synthesizer for your voice basically. It is good for sampling. Or just recording vocals.

      Ikea forgot to add that it has a huge list of vocal presets that you can use

    great presentation, but not very impressive effects. Pretty out of date stuff. Is the anyway to get modern vocal effects on GB? nice song and singing BTW

    • @PeteJohnsMusic
      @PeteJohnsMusic  5 лет назад

      Cheers! What sort of effects are you looking for? The great thing about GB is that you can use any third party apps that support Audio Unit (AUv3) so there’s a heap of ways to customise your sound.

      Probably the Liverpool bass, which is basically a “Beatles” type bass guitar sound.
