@@PeteJohnsMusic Thank you for the reply Pete! I have subscribed :) I had a query: I recorded guitar and drums together using my android device to capture the recording. Pete Ive been doing quite a bit of work with GarageBand for Church due to the current situation we find ourselves in. I’m Playing most of the instruments and utilise a couple of the Virtual instruments - The vocalists send me their independent tracks and I attempt to mix it all in - But have never had a true understanding of the true power of GarageBand and how to exploit all of the Tools - I’ve just spent the last 2 hrs binging on your content and What a treat - Thanks for the all the Tips and Keep up the Great Work - 👍😀

Hey there. Yes, it’s actually something that is the case in most DAWs I have used. Because MIDI is just a data point triggering a virtual sound, of the play head doesn’t pass the note, it doesn’t trigger the sound. There’s no way from it to know what the sounds would be at the mid point. Does make it a little frustrating when mixing. What you can do is merge the track in to an audio track if you we ant to hear the playback at all times. ruclips.net/p/PLc8Xg_23Wa56tIxtD1AHcq_Cte5u2wrRd
Pete Johns quick question what if im doing a cover and i got just the beat and my vocals... what should i be mixing ?? Nd how ?? Once again thank you so much
Hey there. Really depends on the track you are bringing in and how well mixed this is. I’m working on something for a client like this and ended up just adding a little reverb to the vocals and backing track, then used EQ, delay and compression on the vocal.
I know you touched on it but my understanding is that one of the best things you can do is listen to your mix on different sound systems and headphones, etc. to get a good well rounded analysis. Also taking a break to re-calibrate your ears I listening to other music or nothing at all was recommended to me. Another thing I like to do that you didn’t mention was turn on the analyzer feature for the EQ. I really like to see the sound waves in the location frequency that they are.
Yup. Reference listening on different speakers and/or in different environment is indeed very useful for mixing and mastering. And I have mixed feelings about the analyser. It can make me less inclined to use my ears and I tend to then rely on the visuals too much. But it can certainly be handy sometimes.
Thank You Pete! I have using GB to make music track for my home videos. They have been Ok at best, but Im learning. Im no musician, all I can do is use the loops provided. Loads of fun but so frustrating when you cant find a beat you hear in your head. But, thanks so much.

Hi Pete, I'm getting into mixing and mastering my original songs. I wanted to ask you does the volume at the top of the screen important while mixing songs?
Hey there. Not really. I recommend keeping the volume so it’s not hitting the red at all and the yellow too much. This video will help if you’re finding your volume is peaking. ruclips.net/video/ngGA8iz0ncc/видео.html
It's a pretty amazing app... especially considering it's free! I hope you get value from the other videos here on the channel and consider subscribing.
Hi Pete so enjoy you videos so helpful. I have now wrote my first song I say song very loosely 🤣🤣 2 questions 1 how to save 2 can I burn to disc or stick .If there is a video on this please let me know carry on the great work Regards Steve
Saving? Just exit the project and it is automatically saved. Exporting? Yup - plenty of options for this. I would check out my video about sharing from GarageBand here - ruclips.net/video/C1zyo4IbI5w/видео.html
Love your videos! Quick question: if I automate volume on GarageBand track to -6db and then export as WAV will GarageBand auto normalize that to 0 DB or will it remain at -6DB
It will auto normalise still. But it can help by pulling your overall peaks down. Basically it will simply normalise the loudest sound to 0dB so as long as you have dynamic range in your song you can just turn turn the input in mastering to give yourself more headroom.
Another amazingly helpful video.. just what I’ve been looking for. Quick question about guitar harmony parts...how would you suggest panning a three of four part guitar harmony? Would you keep them close together or spread to get that “Brian May” type orchestra sound?
It’s an interesting one. Personally I push guitars super wide when I’m using 2, and if I had a 3rd it’s generally down the middle, and with a 4th I’ll go maybe 30% left and right for that “wall of guitars” sound. What do you generally do?
Pete Johns before I saw your video which discussed panning treble wide (which was very useful) I tended to put them left and right about 30% grouped together, but am not getting that tight “orchestra” feel. I wondered if I should group them together but that would be unbalanced. I might try going wide to see if that does anything. Thanks for replying, really appreciate it 👍
Checking out and enjoying out all your GarageBand videos as I am having a go at doing stuff on the iPad for thr first time. Just one question though. What mouse are you using and is it very hard to do this without one. Thanks!
I’ve used a few nice over time but settled on this one - ruclips.net/video/_nbZU0eYnQM/видео.html Here’s a video about connecting mice and keyboards - ruclips.net/video/PJCGENM7zj0/видео.html

Thanks for replying, really appreciate it 👍
Do you have a vid for GarageBand PC? For both mixing and mastering vocals, and instrumentals?
GarageBand Mac? Check out my mate Patrick over at the GarageBand Guide.
If it’s a vid, can you please provide the link? And just out of curiosity, how come you haven’t made a guide yet?
Thank you

Queue list at 3:07 is a semicolon.
I appreciate your videos a lot, thx for.
Thanks my friend. Not sure what you mean by “queue list is a semicolon” though sorry?
Pete Johns The time stamps in the description, there is 3;07 instead of 3:07 . Not a big thing, it just makes the link function disappear. :)
Checking out and enjoying out all your GarageBand videos as I am having a go at doing stuff on the iPad for thr first time. Just one question though. What mouse are you using and is it very hard to do this without one. Thanks!
I’ve used a few nice over time but settled on this one - ruclips.net/video/_nbZU0eYnQM/видео.html
Here’s a video about connecting mice and keyboards - ruclips.net/video/PJCGENM7zj0/видео.html
@@PeteJohnsMusic Will do that thanks :)
Hi Pete, thanks so much for all theses videos, I hope you are thriving! I have a question, it might be an idea for a video or you might have already covered it. I'm new to ipad, just got the new pro. Is it possible to make a new video and then edit it , add tracks in garage band?
Hey there my friend. So you’re looking to import the audio of a video in to GarageBan then add tracks? I haven’t done anything like this but it sounds interesting!!
Thanks 👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻
