Dang it Pete, every time I watch one of your videos I’m like “alright I think I got it now” but then you link forty other videos down below and remind me that I really don’t know anything lol. I have a whole album written but I want it done right, I’ll watch your videos for the rest of my life if that’s what it takes lol. Thanks for all the valuable info bud
Hey there Lucas. Thanks for the kind words. The key is to just keep learning but also keep creating and mixing. You learn even more by applying the principles you learn. Some will work for you, and some won't - but it's worth trying everything to see what works for your specific workflow.
Hi Pete, your videos on mixing are ace! I watched a couple of videos yesterday whilst doing laundry and when I switched on my iPad earlier I was able to immediately make practical use of my gained theoretical knowledged. You are a brilliant teacher! Thanks a lot and regards from Germany, Alex
Glad to hear it. I know these are more for those starting out but I try to sprinkle in some advice and a few bite advanced techniques to get you more experienced folks thinking.
Thanks for more useful stuff Pete, especially using reverb and delay as glue, makes so much sense when you put it like that. Also I had only been thinking about quick and easy mastering this week as I wanted to share some demos with friends...I knew you had done some videos about this in the past but this was a great reminder of what to do.👍 Looking forward to the isymphonic demo 😀
Nice one Tim! That’s my intention here. I know experiences folks won’t need all of these as they’ll know many already. But if you pick up an idea or two that’s great.

Good stuff, Pete. Great idea going over the basics. People need to get basic before they get insane. Will we be seeing an iSymphonic video soon? *Wink wink nudge nudge*
Awesome timing for me that video thanks. Question, what is the toggle switch that looks like a wifi button next the the red record light on some individual tracks in the mixer.
Thanks for your excellent tips. I never like to copy and paste instruments as it won’t sound natural. Where as copying drums and percussion is likely to be the exact same pattern or as near as.
New to iPad based audio. I'm guessing you looked at Cubasis, and Garageband ended up being the better choice for you. Top 2 reasons (other than GB being free). Been enjoying your videos. Thank you. :)
Hey Greg. Am actually about to put Cubasis to the test, so will take this question on notice - watch this space for more details. The two reasons I use GarageBand right now are: 1. Simplicity - it does everything I need 2. Community - so many folks are using it that there’s always someone who can help with problems.
@@PeteJohnsMusic hey Pete, I hope you’re doing well. I had a question. I have a pair of earbuds that I recently bought, but I wanted to ask you since the earbuds I have have a mic. Is it a good idea to use it or how can I mix it better because it doubles my vocals
@@PeteJohnsMusic It's a good tune and I have just stumbled across and bought your hip song too! That was a good surprise! Good job with that one too btw!
Hi Pete! Could you please do an in-depth video on iSymphonic? P.S This parts i could hear in your track sounds great. Can i listen to the full finished track somewhere?
@@PeteJohnsMusic That would ba wonderful. I have iSymphonic, but for someone who doesn’t really know a lot about synth and keys, it can become quite intimidating. I’m a guitarist and always wanted to get into the synth aspect. Thanks for sharing your track. I’m checking it out right away.💪
@@PeteJohnsMusic HI pete! I noticed in your mixing video an unfamiliar Icon on the tracks for the strings. I wondered what you were using for string sounds, i only use the GB strings. you get great results from GB and i always want to try what you use. i like the string sounds you are getting. I just purchased the maximizer you recommended and i'm very happy with it keep up the good work! Scotty Mac
Hi Pete, when you export a track from someone else’s reaper to my GarageBand I know to make sure you have a new project open with enough bars to except the length of the track but how about making sure the tempo and key signature is correct first ! Is that necessary !
Question - Is there a surface controller/mixer with motorised faders that works with an Ipad Air/Garageband? Something between AU $500-$1000. Absolutely loving your channel! Great stuff
Hey there my friend. So because I use GarageBand which doesn’t support control surfaces I haven’t really looked in to this. Perhaps other DAWs support this but I’m not an expert on this sorry.
I haven’t unearthed anything in my research that suggests you can. I have emailed a few music stores around Aus so I find out anything useful I’ll let you know. Cheers
Hi Pete ! Thanks again for all your usefull videos . I see that you use iSymphonic and that you have midi information on your tracks. I use it too but I’m not able to have my tracks in the midi format, it’s always an audio track. It’ si the same with my other midi keyboard apps. Do you know what would be my problème ? Thanks.
Hey there Stephane. It sounds like you’re using iSymphonic as an inter-app audio plugin. You can also use it as an AUv3 (audio unit) plugin. I’m doing a video on this soon but in the meantime this one should show you the process - ruclips.net/video/t3gG0VsRrew/видео.html
Im making a 8 bit, chiptune beat using the arcade synth in garageband ios, the problem it sounds too hard, it feels like someone smashing the notes( even when I changed the velocity of the notes to the lowest), I want to make it smoother, and softer, any useful tips ?????? will be appreciated

Really great coincidence stumbling upon this video. I' still a relatively new user. I've been using GB for the past several months and have only been recording MIDI tracks. So I suddenly started wondering about those sliders on the left... if they only control output or if they also act as input faders when recording real instruments?? I'm also intrigued by those two "iSymphonic" tracks in your example. are those hidden somewhere in GB or did they have to be purchased/downloaded? Thx!
It’s different.... not sure about “easier” - possibly better for some things like precise volume changes. But not much you can’t do in iOS that you can do on a Mac these days.
When you use pianos in your videos for example this video ruclips.net/video/H5LdtwzG5CY/видео.html do you do any editing to the overall piano sound? Hey there my friend. To be honest, I don’t change the default piano sound much at all. In this tune I added a little more reverb as it was a high “spacey” sound that I was going for. I’ve also been using this one quite a bit lately - ruclips.net/video/aGOgnUwNgY8/видео.html
