Where in Virginia are y’all I live in Virginia as well
At least it aint electric
I don’t even care how involved BMW was in building this car. I still want it. It still captures the concept of the previous Supra: RWD, sporty handling, and a turbocharged 6 cylinder engine
but the essence of a supra is being japanese, not german

Short awnser is no. Its an automatic Z4.
I think that's redundant. There won't be a manual Z4, either.
Bara kameena hey yeh bara kameena
According to Toyota and BMW, the Z4 has a different approach to the design compared to the Supra. Parts are mostly the same, but design initiatives are different. And as he stated, the main reasons why Toyota has been pairing with other companies to make sports cars is because they need a lot of help with new and restrictive laws.
@@bluspectre2042 toyota is pulling themself out of sportscars. Seen any toyota cars in movies and games lately? No? Thats because toyota doesnt want to be seen as a sportscar maker like it used to.
Toyota is more intrested in becoming something boring like Daihatsu or Hyundai.
@@vadenummela9353 Actually Hyundai is far more interested in being viewed as a sporty car maker. I mean just take a look at the Stinger, a car clearly aimed at the sports sedan market.
The new Supra MK5 would’ve been GOLD had Toyota let Yamaha develop a new and unproved 3JZ turbo for the MK5
fanboys loathe this car, but the guy in this video literally points out how much better this car is than the mk4, it may be similar weight like the mk4, with all the safety features i might add, proving how much better the chassis is, he points out how much better the b58 is than the 2jz with both in stock form, the mk4 supra wasn’t “a true supra” because it looked nothing like the mk3, which frankly is the last “real supra” ever made since it was the last with the m-series engine, the original supra engine, and unless you’ve driven a toyota in your life you have absolutely ZERO right in saying that this isn’t a real toyota, you have to drive this car in order to feel it truly shine, but even then the fanboys are saying that this guy was “paid” to say what he said, when they never had the chance to get behind the wheel, because they get their panties in a twist when someone that actually has driven the car says something they don’t agree with, because we live in a fucking society
I fully support Toyota and I'm really thankful they decided to make a new version of the Supra and that they put a lot of thought into it and made a great sports car. It will have a great aftermarket and in time it's reputation will prove the naysayers wrong.
The aftermarket is definitely looking like it's ready to go with this platform!
I highly doubt that. But your positivity intrigued me.
Speed Demon honestly i was skeptical at first about it but then i changed my mind about it i mean bmw can make some good engines not very good reliability but they still make good power like the n54 good engine for some decent power but wastegate rattles and blown turbos but if maintained i guess could be good
Yeah, no. Toyota will drop it in the US due to sales numbers. Nobody can afford the insurance any more.
XrZLimko the good thing is since BMW is working with Toyota so the B58 met Toyota’s reliability standard so this engine will be very reliable and from past dyno test the B58 with minor bolt ons you’re already in the mid 400hp close to 500hp on bolt on alone these engines like to make power and with Toyota sending BMW intel on what to improve even if it’s a 9.5/10 Toyota will send the intel to make that part a 10/10 now

@@6thgear914
They kind of are.
@@dragodavidCE I think you mean Honda is willing to lose money to make its own supercar that no one buys because there are better options out there and their price point is entry level for a demographic that is capable of spending much more for something better. There's a reason Toyota is a significantly more profitable company than Honda. I say that, and originally the LC F got shelved and I've read stuff they might be releasing one in 2022? I don't know the full story there. My take is that as soon as you get into the 125-150k pricerange for cars, you're also competing with 175-200k cars... and there's a lot more refinement and tried and true luxury and performance in that range.
I will take the older one with the 2jz...
Exactly.. This is the point they missed in this video. The thing that made the old Supra brilliant was the 2JZ engine and the sheer over-engineering that went into the car. The gearboxes and diffs were strong. There are many early Supras producing 4 figure outputs using the standard block, cylinder head, crankshaft, oil pump, gearbox and diff reliably, Is this BMW platform over-engineered to the same degree? I suspect not.
People simply don't understand that we can appreciate this car, yet disapprove of the SUPRA badge on it. It does not deserve the SUPRA badge no matter how many videos claim it does. Give this car the respect it deserves.........with a new name.
That's because you have good taste in cars
@@johnwilson1794 That'a a common misconception, the 2JZ in its stock form can only handle around 600hp maybe a little more reliably anything higher than that and the life of the engine is seriously impaired. The 1000+hp ones you see have upgraded internals pistons, piston rods, clutch etc maybe stock crank. It's possible that the B58 in the new Supra will be able to do the same. Remember the predecessor of the B58 the N54 is the only modern engine labelled "The new 2JZ", look it up. Also, the 2JZ was made by Yamaha or in collaboration with Yamaha not exclusively by Toyota and the transmission by Getrag. I think they did a great job considering that the new one sells for around $50k MSRP. If BMW had made it, it would cost at least $70k. They also said that they worked with the BMW engineers to improve the reliability of the engine. We'll see, time will show
You also gotta be open minded when it comes to the new Supra. The b58 engine is a great engine, it’s an I6, twin turbo, and a closed deck. There’s a stock b58 engine with a turbo kit that makes 750+ hp out there. Y’all just gotta give the car some time. I think it looks dope and it has potential. Plus Toyota is working on a full manual version I’m pretty sure.
This is a phenomenal video, I have no idea how you aren’t bigger! Keep up the good work man.
Thank you!

GloomyGuns lol ok
@GloomyGuns You just don't want to accept the fact it will be a good car. Have hope.
Tbh I think they should of released with a fully re worked 2jz with the same reliability we all expect from a Toyota engine.
3 name changes allowed every 90 days. Let's take into consideration some factors. How much does it cost to create a whole new engine? Most companies design an engine to be used in multiple applications. However, since Toyota just created a bunch of new platform on existing engines, IE Toyota Global Architecture and GA-L, they have no real reason to make a next gen JZ motor. Considering that back in the 90s when they made the 1UZ, it cost over $500Mil just to develop that. Adjust it for today's inflation rate and it doesn't make sense as the car itself is already close to $50k without a chassis. Let's also look at EPA regulations and having to design a car to crash test. I'd estimate between $500-750Mil just for chassis development. How does that affect the consumer? Well, your Toyota Supra is now $100K. Look at how the NSX was designed and built in-house.. it's expensive being over $100K and not many people are buying them. I can never ever look at that car and say I can buy one. Realistically, it's not within MOST consumer's budget. Yes, if we build a Supra like how fanboys want it, will they cough up that money to buy it? Will you honestly say you'll be a 100K Supra? I don't think so because you'd give me a reason why not to buy it because there are "other cars much faster than the new Supra for less than $100k." The point is, no one will ever truly be happy.
There's so much layers of development and so much agencies to go through that Toyota would never have the ability to build a true Supra. Now, if we support and buy this Supra, we give them a DAMN good reason to make a Mk.VI that would be our wet dream. That is my 2 cents. Let's also appreciate that there's modern amenities for those of us that like creature comforts in the new Supra. If you look closely enough, it has some really great resemblance to a Mk.IV. The Mk4 didn't have the best handling, probably about as typical with a bit more sport than the Toyotas of that era. As much as I want to bash them for taking BMW components to make the Supra, you have to also appreciate how they didn't just slap things on, but tested those components to meet standards that Toyota and tuned and refined it to how Toyota envisioned a modern day sports car.
3 name changes allowed every 90 days. Development costs will always determine whether or not something is truly feasible. US and EU governments are making it harder to have fun cars because of market trends and the whole going green. Did Toyota cheap out? Sure, they definitely did. There's also the fact that people forget Toyota worked in collaboration with Yamaha to help develop the JZ series. It wasn't solely a Toyota product. Let that sink in. And if we built a Toyota Supra to all the fanboy's liking, it would have an interior similar to a Camry, similar to all of Toyota's boring interior. Throw in an updated 2JZ and we would STILL have people complain "omg it's cast iron, so heavy, ugh lazy Toyota engineers blah blah."
What's the moral of the story? Make anything and people will STILL complain. People will always complain. And for that, to each his own opinion. There's always trade offs. And don't forget, Toyota knows that people are gonna swap a 2JZ into the Zupra. I guess what I want to ask you is, if Toyota made a new JZ updated to today's demanding emissions stsndards, but it DOESN'T live up to the previous generation JZ, would you even bother trying to buy that new Supra? Would you support them or bash them for making a shitty motor?
Lmao @ the replies to this comment "...dO YoU kNoW HoW MuCh iT CoStS?..." they are a car manufacturer, thats is their fucking job, they made a 1996 Toyota supra met CARb restrictions and went obd2. holy shit they rode the 2jz well past 2003 over 10 years. They have had 20+ years to design and manufacture this car. How can BMW make this engine but Toyota cannot, Toyota is the number 1 car manufacturer in the world. if they wanted to make a 2002 Toyota supra they could have, but they didn't, bean counters killed it and now the same bean counters see the GTR, and want back in on the nostalgia (and money) as cheaply as possible, oh and I don't want to hear about emissions, Toyota has made enough hybrids and econo shitboxes to offset it 1000 times over. This is lazy, greedy, trash. Shame on you Toyota.
Jack Popham I totally agree with you this. Toyota should have build their engine by themselves
@@yeoscore these tards don't seem to realize that motors have to comply with modern emissions regulations. why the hell would toyota waste money developing a modern engine to go into such a low volume vehicle? makes absolutely no sense. better to share the cost with someone who is already doing that: subaru and bmw. they also don't seem to realize that toyota stopped making sports cars for 20 years until the 86, while bmw never stopped, and subaru has had their sports sedan wrx for a couple decades now, too
the thing that makes me chuckle is that none of the people saying "its a bmw hurr" have not - nor will they - driven the mk5 supra. they will never own one either

Its GDM lol
That mk4 at the beginning wasn’t JDM either
EUDM
@@datlac95 Maybe it will be JDM later ?
.I can understand using someone else's trans because theirs suck but the engine? They already had a platform, just update it a little, they had one of their Japanese drivers say it was too stiff, it's got 2 seats and it's named Supra, and I know the mk4 was a flexy pile of mush with one saving grace in the 2JZ. You take that and build a car around it, you don't take a BMW Z4, tune 50hp out of it and slap Toyota on the side
So much hate on this video. This is a good video, and the new Supra is going to be a good car. I don't think Toyota is going to make a manual version because financially it isn't feasible. I personally have the shittiest commute of all time, so I'll gladly take that automatic.
I think I'm ditching my 370Z for this...
No one should complain about the cars being slow or looking bad. People always gotta say something bad to different things.
Just give it some time. Everything changes. I think it's better than not having a Supra, cars come slow then you gotta make it fast!
No.
It's a great car, it's just not a Supra.
- A40/A50 Supra: facelifted Celica with 6 cylinders, Lotus engineered
- A60 Supra: still uses Celica plattform, design and suspension made by Lotus
- A70 Supra: heavy grand tourer notably fatter than its predecesors, only became interesting with the JA70 turbo version
Guess they are not "true Supras" either. Fanboys can't look past the A80 and realize how Supras have changed over the years, still stuck on F&F, neons and 2000hp dyno queens. That's just sad.
Idiot
OxBlitzkriegxO Supra is a Supra
@@toyotabrony tru if its branded as supra it is a supra lol
@@asaltytropicalcoconut6467 I think it's because the car looks like it was designed by a kid
I like the car! I was doubtful at first but after seeing it driven on track and some aftermarket support development, I think it has a darn good chance to be big!
Like your review. I think you gave the car it's due. I am not going to take the time to read the slugfest below. If folks can not understand what is mentioned after 11:00 of the video they need to move on. Perhaps, a C8 would be in order. This is March and I just got a 2020 Supra. I have had several Corvettes over the years and I find the Supra more to my liking. The Corvette is and always has been a car for the "well healed" most of which only drive them on Sunday.
This was the best review I've seen, it touched on the main things, be it heritage, the possibility for manual gearbox, it weighed the pros and cons already considering that part of the Supra's culture is linked to the aftermarket stuff will come for this car. Not only that but all the regulation stuff would indeed make it harder for Toyota to pull this off by themselves, so what they did is to provide the chassis and reinforcements in the right areas so people that want it, have the right platform to do it. I'm looking forward for what kind of Supras people will make. I prefer a low-key almost stock-looking car that is actually a beast, but more fun than crazy... hahahahha...
So let me think. You are going to have Toyota techs working on a BMW engine -
@Sad but True The B58 ain't like the S55 engine, under the spaghetti wires the engine design is simpler except the timing chain in the back, however since its made of steel, it shouldn't break with ease, it takes some serious punch to break it.
opposed to Toyota techs working on a Yamaha engine?
For me, for it to be a real Supra, it needs to have an inline-6 engine and a manual transmission. These are the 2 most important aspects of a true Supra.
it has a great inline six engine, but it really sucks that it doesnt come with manual
A manual is said to be in early development, but will only be determined if there is enough funding to mass produce it.
Well, I was thinking that it’s in early phases of development as well. Funding, Toyota has funds; but of course business wise, it would be a gamble, as it will most likely be not that profitable; but enthusiasts will surely rejoice if Toyota decides to mass produce it.
@@aeronYTco Yeah, we just gotta have hope. And yeah toyota are being very smart about the way they went about the new supra, otherwise this wouldn't have happened.
It has a F BMW engine.. an insult... it’s supposed to be JAPANESE muscle.... ew.....

T.Wallsx4 congrats on being that first comment to speak well of the car. Mfs are whining up a storm
@@crowbar_enjoyer No prob, I mean it deserves a chance. I wish it was up there with the new GTR, C8, NSX etc but it could still have some potential
@@Twallsx4 It's true it's not in the same ballpark as the GTR or NSX. As cool as it would be for it to be in that range, it just doesn't seem like it would be a great fit imho. I've ridden in Mk 4's and even had the pleasure of driving one a few times. They're not the second coming of christ of cars (Ik you're an actual owner yourself so I'm not trying to lecture you or anything, you know more than me lmao, just my two cents). They're hella fun to drive, and run well, but the thing that launched into its status was the tuner community. They weren't really made to compete the GTRs back in its day in the first place, people could just mod the hell out of it and turn it into an ICBM of a car. The new Supra shows similar promise, and the B58 engine (which was co-developed with Toyota to make it more solid and reliable, I recently discovered!) is no slouch. I recently got to ride in one thanks to a buddy who owns a dealership, and while I didn't get to drive it, I could feel that same Toyota energy in this car - and it certainly felt different than any BMW I've been in. Have a good one my man, thanks for the friendly convo

Conclusion: The A90 Supra isn't a successor to the A80, but its like a GT86 to an AE86

Tbh the new Supra looks like the BMW Z4, this was before me finding out the BMW was involved in the design, so I said "that's why".

30 years? There is not a single MKIV Supra out there that is 30 years old! The 30 years is the MK3 Supra age rage. wait 4 more years...
onhawaii he said "nearly 30 decades".
93' is still way of 30 years T Conger
onhawaii I'm not here to argue about what your definition of "nearly" is. I just wanted to make sure you knew what you were saying. If you want to try and fact-check a statement like that, be my guest. 26 could be seen as "nearly 30". Or it could not. Not really my problem.
Nearly is not close enough for me... Let me be picky. I would not said anything if it where 1 or 2 years off. I have to draw a line. And that is passed for me. My car is a 1990 model and still has a year to get 30 that is nearly 30 years old. The Supra MKIV is just over 25 years out there.
Quick answer
No because its basically just a BMW z4
Toyota knew that inline 6 made the Supra iconic and who else has the expertise to design such an engine. Yet, they forget that it's the overengineered 2JZ that made the MkIV a legend.
The new Supra looks like something my 9 year old daughter would draw in school.
9 year old is pretty dam smart then
More like a cybertruck nigga
Fat and Furious it doesn’t look that bad bruh
I'm actually at the 4th review of the Supra. I can't get enough of it. Only flaw is no manual transmission. And designwise only thing looks weird in my eye is rear-end, taillights sit a bit low. I'd like it to be little more similar to A80's rear-end a bit up high.(Edit was a typo.)
I like the rear end, my main problem with the looks is the hood. Doesn't matter what angle I look at it from, it looks slightly off to me
@@seantaylor2683 I don't know, hood looked fine to me but it looks a bit high. My opinion is the line of the car looks really good from front view but when you slowly turn the car to rear view, line of the car and hood looks a bit off because taillights are sitting low.
Integrated spoiler spoiled the rear end design imo

The main problem is styling.
Old supra has an iconic design, simple and beautiful, with some minor changes you could make it look very different, very modern, sleek or very sharp or busy if you wish. It's been a star of the golden age of racing games.
New is already over stylised, and those cars usually don't age well and it already looks too busy. Anything you change, it will look too busy and over stylised.
b58 is objectivity a very good powerplant and as papadakis racing suggests is capable of in access of 1000hp so I believe it is a true successor and all the 2JZ fanboys are gonna hate it anyway due to the BMW DNA (even though it was a COLLABORATIVE effort )
Made in Austria in a BMW factory, Numerous Visible BMW parts, majority have BMW labeled directly on it! Interior literally straight from a BMW, with a toyota badge slapped on. Even if somehow miraculously this is turns out to be reliable, it's extreme influence from BMW doesn't pay homage to the Toyota Supra heritage IMO. The toyota supra is a jdm legend, founded/designed/built/manufactured in japan. I don't know if I will be able to get over the BMW influence. Only time will tell.
Not true the 2JZ was actually co developed with German engineers also responsible for the BMW M50 engine. Funny enough the 2 sound very similar and are bullet proof.
@@mannynazario2140 The gearbox is a getrag which is a German manufacturer who make gearboxes for Audi and other companies. The engine is made by Toyota. Yamaha helped design the head on the 1jz so they may have had some influence on the 2jz even though they weren't involved on the 2jz directly.
All of you naysayers need to realize the cold hard truth Yamaha developed the head for the 2JZ however the block design was developed from German engineering Toyota and look this up on your own travel to Germany to study the design of their inline 6 brought the design home and developed their own inline 6 and I'm not talking about the 5m or 7M the 2JZ was developed using German engineering. Toyota acquired during their visit to Germany
This car is going to be just as popular as the GT86 when it comes to modifications. I have no doubt in my mind.

There’s just something about the front end on the MKV that I just don’t like. I feel like If I had it, I would always be looking for a different front bumper.
