Tuners made the real supras tho. I think everyone’s forgetting the fact stock supras are just regular cars in comparison to other cars when not tuned. So it’s only right that toyota would let the tuner community develop the new model by giving them something to work with which most people who buy these cars are gonna end up doing at some point anyway

When Doug reviews the 2021 Supra I hope he mentions that it has a lower compression ratio than the 2020 model. This is a GREAT thing for tuners because it allows much greater boost pressures. Doug says in this video that Toyota was going to release a future model with much more performance potential. The 2021 definitely has much more potential than the 2020 model. I feel bad for everyone that was duped into paying over sticker for the 2020 car.

First thing I'd do would be to take my slower BMW-with-Toyota-gauges to the tuning company and ask them to make the boot (trunk) opening wider.

I might be in the minority, but I like how Toyota did the new Supra. I'm not in love with the new styling, but the potential for aftermarket tuning was precisely why the gen 4 is so loved. A bone stock gen 4 supra was nothing to get excited about when it was new. It was the powertrain's almost limitless potential that gave it such a place in history. They would have totally missed the point if they included all of the performance parts they left space for. It's a blank canvas.

We only have ourselves to blame for car companies not making manuals anymore. People either don't know how to drive manual or don't want to. 99.9% of the population just wants a fun car for their commute. As someone who loves manual transmission sports cars, I get why no one wants them. They're just a PITA to drive on a daily basis, especially if your commute, like most people, involves stop-and-go traffic in a city.
Coming back to this after a year... Well, Toyota, how many of these BMWs have you sold? And how many Supras you'd have sold with your own infrastructure (motor, chassis etc.) in them?
Toyota: We did a gigantic mistake but we'll never acknowledge it publicly because the project manager and some of the corporate board managers would have to commit suicide if we did. And the second part of your question: a hell of a lot more.

They considered making a Toyota made Supra, but they realise that they couldn't make it, for a reasonable price, and the reason they aren't selling a lot more is because 2020/2021

@@tupaei01 I also have no idea, and I also have no idea how they are going to price it in a good spot without Renault helping, but it's probably because of cheaper materials, and the fact that the engine is an updated VQ. The Toyota I6 that anyone wanted is a completely new engine, and optimizing it to Toyota standards (according to Toyota) would shoot the price up to over 100k. It wasn't going to be an updated engine (unlike the Z), but a new bespoke engine (and from their experience, that is bound to fail)
Maybe Toyota has some existing V6 technology for instance to update the Supra. The future Supra. Living and dreaming... I heard the BMW inline-6 is going away. It's going to be 4 and 3-cyl. hybrids for the Bavarians.

Let's hope this is the "Platform Base".. Growing up I had a couple friends who were car guys that dreamed of owning the previous version. With so much tuning potential, let's hope Toyota pulls out all the stops-and dummy vents, adds a manual transmission and gives the people what they want.

Like how the skyline has rb26 which is "the skyline engine" it's a bit dissapointing that toyota put in a B58 which is common in other bmw cars. However, after owning the 2020 supra for a day (448/1500), i feel as though there doesn't need more power for sure. Going from 60 mph to 110mph was walk in the park with the supra seriously. If there were any more power i would be a bit scared to drive it. It's already fast enough

The BMW components are a problem for some people because one of the reasons they liked the Japanese "supercars" of that era is because they were quintessentially Japanese.
Exactly. I think the downfall of this is the very idea that it's not a Toyota. The whole point of buying a Supra is because of it being a Japanese engineered and built Toyota from the ground up. A potential Supra buyer wasn't going to maybe buy a Z4.

Automakers are no stranger on co-developing with other automakers or rebadging other models. For example, the new Fiat 124 Spider is built off of the Mazda Roadster ND platform. Another example, the Chevrolet SS is a rebadged car of the Holden Commodore.

Toyota is completely tone deaf to what its fanbase has been asking for for two decades. Seven years later and we *still* don't have a turbo 86 on the market. Now they give us this gorgeous vehicle with an auto and a detuned engine made by BMW. It's like going to the gym for five years straight, winning Mr. Universe, and then chopping an arm and a leg off.
It's actually a good idea of them to leave so much to tuners. Here's why: the car is now open for ANYONE'S driving style.

Ok......make it yourself....its an engine with potential i dont know if it is 2jz good engine but there are cars with this engine and high hp numbers...so we just need to w8. About the chassis's "failures" ok it is there you can use it "if" you want. Thre will be many owners that will buys just to own a supra...they dont need the hp or the perfomance so why to pay for them.

Watching this with the "new" Nissan Z coming soon. Hearing about all the things Toyota intentionally did for tuning companies to improve on (unsettling) and hoping Nissan doesn't make the same mistake. I've owned two 300zx's and two Supra Turbo's (currently have a 1987 Supra Turbo) and would love to get a newer model. The Nissan Z sure looks more appealing at the moment.

The lack of a manual transmission is the reason I don't have one. My gripes about the looks are that the roof looks like they took it off a Viper and the rear almost has a look like someone put a widebody kit one it.

The emergency lights flash when braking. All you get is the 3rd brake light for others to see that you’re braking behind you. Pickup trucks have been doing this for a while.
