that turn signal is actually Ford part, it can be seen on european Ford Sierra, Ford Fiesta, Ford escort mk3/mk4 I find it hillarious, also some interior parts - the mirror controller, climate vents...
The indoor latches are from the Sierra, the power mirror controls from a Mondeo and the dials seem from a Sierra. (different numbers of course). I've had a few of both and I was very satisfied with them. - BUT, I would feel cheated buying a supercar with stuff from my everyday family cars.
When I was a child, I built a model version of this car. It was my dream sport car when it was new. I even have a book from back in 1992 with a complete breakdown of the car. Way to go!! I would own one if I could!
it is now, because people who were young when it came out are now old enough to have jobs and put it in the racing games they're making. it's not in very many from before 2010 other than Gran Turismo (which really likes getting all the random cars from famous brands) and NFS 2 (which focused on very rare and very fast cars... the slowest car in the game was the Lotus Esprit!)

He reviewed Pagani earlier, but it was Huayra. Still, it would be nice to see review of Zonda on his channel. But it's gonna be hard to find one, because only slightly more than 100 units were made and it wasnt't officially offered in US.
Absolutely. It's so unsurprising that buyers sued Jag. Look at the interior door handles amongst other things (Jag parts bin) and all the obvious design afterthoughts (typical 'old' Jag mentality) everything was scrimped. The electric window, mirror, door design is atrocious. It's like they couldn't work it out. The team would have been sacked in Germany. And yet, it looks amazing even today. See one in the flesh and you stop and stare.
@@theskig I'll go along with that but only so far as design inconsistencies. What made the XJ220's case so egregious is that Jaguar took the same door handle from the terrible Rover Metro and put it in their supercar! That's not lazy it's almost crazy. "That'll do lads...right - off to the pub!"
I had a poster of the xj220 on my wall. It was quite well-known and revered when it came out. I just think it didn’t have the staying power of other cars from the time, but there was no internet back then. Until recently, nobody talked about the cizetta maurauder or the vector w2/w8 either, but they were quite well-known.
Loved this car, only ever saw one in the museum at Buleigh, there was also an amazing (for the time) video game on the Amiga! All round great time for super cars: XJ220, Bugatti EB110, Ferrari F50, McLaren F1 great days!
You missed the most interesting quirk of the XJ220: it was built by Tom Walkinshaw Racing on behalf of Jaguar. Walkinshaw was famous for running the Group C Jaguar factory team which dominated the WSC in the late 80's and early 90's.
@@thomas316 It did and it didn't. The twin turbo version was adapted from the Metro's engine by Walkinshaw for the XJR-10 and XJR-11 Le Mans racers. That 800+ hp engine was then tamed for road use after turbos were banned in Group C racing.
It goes further than that. Jaguar’s racing division wanted to pull out of IMSA in the early 1990s, but was obligated to continue motorsport operations in North America in 1993. So, TWR provided a fleet of XJ220s and full technical support to the FastMasters series, an invitation tournament between over-50 racers held that summer at Indianapolis Raceway Park. So you had 40-plus senior citizens, some of whom had not driven a lap in anger in decades, racing against each other in one of the most finicky super cars ever built, around a 5/8-mile short track. It was insane. Of course, if you waited to finish the entire video, Doug could tell you all about it.
@@fishflake1209 And not long after the xj220 Tom Walkinshaw bought into Ligier before buying up Arrows running it into the ground with some rather spectacularly bad business deals which bankrupted walkinshaw and his company.
sleepbox2 ngl I thought you were making a joke as I have epilepsy, but no kidding. I already have a migraine and seeing that I’m glad I could turn the brightness down thanks🙌💯
The XJ220 was designed at around the same time that the movie was made, so it’s not all that surprising that the designs used in the film were drawn from the concept cars of 1988-1989.

I bet that square turn signal was the reason why it couldn't reach 220 MPH
I'm sure the reason is because the name existed when it still had a V12
that turn signal is actually Ford part, it can be seen on european Ford Sierra, Ford Fiesta, Ford escort mk3/mk4
I find it hillarious, also some interior parts - the mirror controller, climate vents...
@@JirkaPetera The key is the same as the Ford Mondeo and the controls for opening the windows on the central console are from the Ford Sierra.
And if I'm not mistaken the air vents are also from the Sierra
The indoor latches are from the Sierra, the power mirror controls from a Mondeo and the dials seem from a Sierra. (different numbers of course). I've had a few of both and I was very satisfied with them. - BUT, I would feel cheated buying a supercar with stuff from my everyday family cars.

Doug you forgot to mention it’s in just about every racing game!
It actually had its own racing game on the Amiga.
it is now, because people who were young when it came out are now old enough to have jobs and put it in the racing games they're making. it's not in very many from before 2010 other than Gran Turismo (which really likes getting all the random cars from famous brands) and NFS 2 (which focused on very rare and very fast cars... the slowest car in the game was the Lotus Esprit!)

Fun fact: the taillights of the XJ220 are actually a 1992 Rover 200`s taillights
@@samuelbutterworth They put everything together, saw that it would do and they went to the PUB.
@@samuelbutterworth OK but that was common on any low-production exotic from that time.

Yessss i also remember :)
You missed the most interesting quirk of the XJ220: it was built by Tom Walkinshaw Racing on behalf of Jaguar.
Walkinshaw was famous for running the Group C Jaguar factory team which dominated the WSC in the late 80's and early 90's.
Didn't it use a version of the 6R4 rally car engine developed by Williams? 🤔

That's funny because I thought that rear end looked like a DeLorean.

The XJ220 was designed at around the same time that the movie was made, so it’s not all that surprising that the designs used in the film were drawn from the concept cars of 1988-1989.
