@@davis7323 it was pretty much built for the 90s. I dont know everything about them but what I have heard is they are pretty much a 90s car. Besides, the cost of development argument isn’t as good when we scale it against what was arguably the car of 2020. The Corvette C8 went mid engine, and it turned up a profit. The damn thing had 2 get a new platform, completely reworked engineering, and different materials, and after all of that, it STILL managed 2 maintain its absolute bargain of a price. Toyota is a much bigger company than GM is. What’s 2 say they couldn’t make a Supra completely in-house and still make a profit at a fair price point? Because rite now, Nissan has absolutely embarrassed Toyota with the Z. And I no, it’s unfair 2 compare the 2, given that the Z had a platform that was perfectly useable. But the point of the car was 2 hit Toyota where it hurt, and that they did. The Supra was inspired by Supras of old, but the Z was more inspired by old Zs than the Supra was inspired by old Supras. And it’s a shame 2, since Toyota knows how 2 make a good driver’s car. Just look at the GR Yaris. It took a boring and run of the mill car and turned it into a little pocket rocket that feels more like an Integra than the new Integra will probably feel like, because that’s what it is. I was 16, working as a porter at a Toyota dealership in 1994 when the MKIV was in its heyday. I absolutely loved the car and lusted after it. I have waited patiently… and now will have a manual transmission MKV in my garage in a month. damn i have tears in my eyes hearing the last 2 minutes of your video. i bought a mk4 supra myself at the end of last year and i can proudfully say, i reached one if not the biggest lifegoal for me. to own one of these legends that "makes people lose their minds" as you say so beautifully, is just something different. People are going nuts next to me when i ride it on the motorway or come to ask for pictures when they see it in the city, so they can post it in their instagram storys. its just a fantastic feeling to know that you are making peoples days just by the small fact that they saw a SUPRA. that feeling of joy is just one of the most epic and most valuable things i have ever experienced.
@Massimo Hack you're probably right. But it doesn't change the fact that it's a fantastic car and it's the dream of many people owning one. And the same applies to cars like the buggatti veyron and so on. These cars are just as overrated.
Just imagine this. You have $67k to spend on an exhilarating car. You could choose one that will depreciate the moment it leaves the lot or choose the one that is selling into 6 digit figures already. It's a free or potentially very profitable experience of a legendary car. Take the goddamn legend!
The last few minutes hit home. Sure I can buy a new car but there is something about my old 90d Toyota that brings joy and experiences I don’t feel like I get out of many modern cars.
The mk4 was a GT car designed to go against the exotic gt cars from the likes of ferrari and Aston Martin, even the old 8 series from BMW. It wasnt as good as the exotics but it was wayyy cheaper and better value for money. Kind of like buying a mustang gt instead of an m3 is better value for money when it comes to performance but you lose the luxury.

The production value of your videos is amazing, I’m blown away. A80 Supra is an amazing car and I miss that straight six sound and just seeing them on the road. From a time when Toyota and Nissan and Honda and Mitsubishi threw caution to the wind and built these amazing cars. I miss those days.
I really miss my IS300. I did a 2JZ-GTE conversion. I had the manual version, so naturally I popped in a 6-speed from the supra. I stiffened the chassis, and upgraded to a fully adjustable (castor, camber, toe, stiffness, and ride height) coil over strut suspension front and rear. It was amazing around a racetrack. Edit: with the tune I was making 700hp to the wheels.
Same; I had a '95 SC300 waiting for the supra swap but job loss = kept he wrx and sold the SC300... I'll eventually get another that someone has poured their life savings/divorce special...
There are so many stories about how people feel about the IV. The "Fast and the Furious" is the other spectrum of the car. It's the legendary 2JZ with great tuning possibilities. What Toyota didn't make was a rocket car, they made an iconic Gran Tourer. It was a midsize, comfortable, and fast car to enjoy driving across the country. I think the Lexus LC500 comes to my mind when I think about the older Supra (without the larger price tag). The Supra I, II, III, and IV were all different cars. Maybe, Toyota will morph the next Supra into a GT from the LC500.
M3RRIH3W13 Nah I don’t think so, Toyota is so greedy and corporate nowadays, they’re way too cheap to actually make enthusiast based cars, they only care about making cars that sell to the masses, the BMW Supra is a supreme example of their disconnect with their true fans and literally made a car that no one asked for with a Supra badge on it, they pay someone else to build their performance cars because they don’t want to invest the money into a performance car that wont sell a million units, they only care about the bread and butter, corolla, Camry and crossovers.
The last 10 seconds of this video brought a tear… So true; I miss my mk4. I had to loose my dream Mk4 of 8 years of ownership; in exchange for a marriage and family. A thankful; bittersweet exchange..

Great review guys! I love your approach to reviewing cars and the genuine sense that your commentary isn't heavily scripted. It's also nice to see our lovely Ontario country roads as the backdrop. For me, the Mark IV will always represent what a Supra should be. If you take the badges off the new one it could be the product of almost any modern manufacturer...zero identity! Sad actually..:(

@@weakneerose7614 Actually you're a bit wrong. As someone who owns a '90 Toyota Corolla, I will say I love the interior. Driver-centric and all! I specifically love it for that. I'M the driver, I'M in control of the car. The passenger is just the person getting a ride. They're not important. I DON'T want them to mess with my radio, or fucc with my AC, or anything. They're not important enough for that. They're THE PASSENGER, they don't need to concern themself with any of it, it's MY car. And it's wonderfully selfish and driver-centric. And I adore that! After all most driving of '85-'96 Toyota's is done for the enjoyment of the driver.
I actually disagree with Thomas and those who claim "it doesn't look like a supra". First of all...hello! There's an incredible gap between the two. Secondly, I think they did a great job paying tribute to the looks of the previous supra while making it unique, modern, and relevant. I'm with James. I prefer the mark v as a daily. The ride, refinement, and technology edges out the mark IV. I think even many people who claim they'd prefer the mark IV are just being fanboys rather than give an honest and realistic assessment. When comparing the handling of a 25 year old car to a brand new one, you need to take into account the condition of the suspension components and if they've been renewed recently. It's a night and day difference with bushing upgrades, control arm replacements etc. Great point of view nonetheless.

I was 16, working as a porter at a Toyota dealership in 1994 when the MKIV was in its heyday. I absolutely loved the car and lusted after it. I have waited patiently… and now will have a manual transmission MKV in my garage in a month. It may not be a “Toyota” but Toyota would not put their badge on it if it didn’t meet their QDR standards. Love the styling, love the speed, and the rare factor is icing on the cake.

Well hope everyone here will get to say that sentence one day...
Hard to say that when so many different cars can fit the bill for me, but I own one. That being the S2000
lol, I have already made peace with the fact that I'll never be able to say that. Would be nice to have a 288 GTO though. Alternatively, having the entire (celica) supra bloodline would be amazing. I love the Mk3 and the celica supras so much.

damn i have tears in my eyes hearing the last 2 minutes of your video. i bought a mk4 supra myself at the end of last year and i can proudfully say, i reached one if not the biggest lifegoal for me. to own one of these legends that "makes people lose their minds" as you say so beautifully, is just something different.
@Massimo Hack that ugly thing is not overrated for 1 million? Sorry but you have clearly no idea 🤣

In my opinion, the mark 4 is a 90's sportscar, a very good one. But it's still a sports cat

@@jaredchampagne2752 I believe that you are correct. The Supra sat on the shelf for a long time. Crossovers and econoboxes get all the money.

They're not important enough for that. They're THE PASSENGER, they don't need to concern themself with any of it, it's MY car. And it's wonderfully selfish and driver-centric. And I adore that!
