    Informative and easy to digest video as always 👍Whenever you get the opportunity, i'm curious to hear your impressions on the 992 T's 7 spd manual shift feel. I watched a POV canyon driving video of the 992 Carrera T on 'TheTopher''s youtube channel and was blown away by how potent this 'base' 385PS engine was on public roads and as you say, how eager the front-end was to turn in. I'm not sure if the engine sound into the cabin is synthesised but I also liked that there's an additional shriek-sound between 6500rpm-fuel cut off too in these 3.0 twin turbo carrera engines. Keep up the great work!

      I’ve had both 991 Manual T and 991 PDK T, the two cars feel completely different, the Manual is alive in a way the paddle car just isn’t. Nothing against cars with paddles, my 675 has them and I wouldn’t want it any other way. But when spec’ing my 992 there was question as to which box it would have. And it’s so much sweeter than the 991 T shifter. It’s as precise and sharp as a GT3 now, no slop at all. And controversially I actually think the 7 speed in the T is better than the 6 in the GT3, because the ratios are that much closer together. You don’t even notice the 7th gear, you can’t access it unless already in 6th and even the manual says you won’t reach the cars top speed with it. So I can only imagine it’s there for emission certification? The invite is there for Lee to come and drive it..

    The conversation around spec mirrors the Australian experience - including 991.2 T. There aren't many on the used market but often are specced with PSK, rear seats, sunroof, etc, etc... I reckon for many buyers there's an appeal in having the T as a 'special' badged car but not at the expense of everyday luxuries, which I think misses the point to some degree. Still, everyone's got their own flavour and is entitled to spec their car as they see fit.

    Great review. Totally agree on the sports suspension. Had a 992 GTS - sold it after 6 weeks as the ride is too choppy over bumpy b roads in the UK. The damping isn’t good enough when compared with the GT products. My 991.2 GTS was a far superior car suspension set up wise. Very disappointing and poor from Porsche - agree with the need for a C16 setup. Finally seeing reviews showing this problem now with you and Joe Achilles saying the same thing.

      @helmetculture 11 месяцев назад

      35 pounds less cumulative? Or each?

    • @nvanpraag
      @nvanpraag 11 месяцев назад +1

      @@helmetculture Cumulative. But consider this: 80 pounds of the claimed 100 pounds of weight savings comes from the manual vs PDK transmission. So everything else done (removal of back seat, less sound deadening material, smaller battery, thinner glass) is only 20 pounds total. So, 35 pounds savings is very significant in the world of this 911. I also opted for no rear wheel steer to save weight. Interestingly, the new S/T was spec'ed the same for the same reason. I went with the CF roof too, again to maximize weight savings. It all adds up. And worthy to note: The 4-way semi-manual seats are amazing - same shape as the 18 ways. 👍

    • @helmetculture
      @helmetculture 11 месяцев назад

      @@nvanpraag thanks for the note mate!
      Would you ever look at swapping the 4 ways for buckets?
      Reason I'm interested. Trying to spec a 992 not based on price but based on the lightest possible spec sheet.
      Things like leather vs plastic? Sport chrono delete and headlight options. Would white paint even be lighter than black or guards? The dealers seem to only know what each option costs but not costs in weight
      Very interesting stuff. A manual it would have for sure

    • @nvanpraag
      @nvanpraag 11 месяцев назад

      @@helmetculture If weight savings is your objective and you're not as sensitive to cost I would go with the CF buckets. Those were not available in the states when I ordered the T but I would have passed because of cost and the fact I will only be using the car on the street (read: comfort). I have worked with Audi for many years, been to the Porsche factory (as well as Audi), and studied the Porsche assembly process and what I have learned all of the colors are executed in the same process, hence would weigh the same. Across model lines sometimes there's a difference (for example, an RS5 has more paint than an A3) but for 911's it should all be pretty much the same. And yes, the dealers don't know much. I found a service tech that was a 911 "Weight Weenie" and had spec'd a 991 to be as light as possible, so he was the one I learned the most from. The salesperson knew far less than I did.

    • @nvanpraag
      @nvanpraag 11 месяцев назад +1

      @@helmetculture Also note, I went with the Carrera Exclusive wheels as they were the only forged option of the three available for the T at the time. If you really want to save weight, however, an aftermarket race wheel like a forged HRE will be far lighter than any optional Porsche wheel (in the non-GT cars).

    So much jealousy! First - the 992 911 is without any doubt the best 911 ever built. I had a Gt4 2022- and I traded it in on a 911T. Why? The gt 4 has an annoying loud groaning exhaust sound- and the 718 is simply too small inside and the entire dashboard and electronics are ten years out of date. A new 718 of any model - has a CD player still for God’s sake! The 911 k992 has a wonderful exhaust sound and lots of pops and baubles in sport mode. Sophisticated and performance oriented. It is not massive - smaller than almost every other sports car from Europe. Have you driven a new c8 even? I am 6’ 2” and I can push the drivers seat back such that I cannot touch the pedals with my toes!
    The 911 is still the top of the line - and the 718 models are the cheaper choice and outdated. If you have to be in sport to get the better pops and crackles. The electronics tech is state of the art- just say “hey porsche” and tell her what you need.
    With really over 400 hp - it has more hp than 95% of all Porsche sports cars from the 991 back in time.
    I also own a 2022 Boxster GTS - a beautiful car also - but it is not a 911 -

    The 992 series is not loved - why? bigger, heavier, generic, german taxi cab interior and unless it has rear axle steering, poor handling.
