- Mat’s flown over to the south of France for the ultimate Porsche road trip!
He’s got his hands on what he believes to be the four best iterations of the Porsche 911, and he’s going to drive each of them on a 500-mile journey from Lyon all the way to Monaco to find out which takes the crown as the ultimate 911!
So let’s look at what he’ll be driving, starting with the 911 Turbo S! We already know the Turbo packs a punch, as its 3.8-litre twin-turbo flat-six has taken down SO many competitors on the carwow drag strip. But take a step inside and despite being a true powerhouse, the 911 Turo is still so luxurious and comfortable. The version we have here is covered in leather and comes with super comfortable sports seats, and even though he’s set to encounter some twisty mountain roads on this route, it’s more than capable of handling these sorts of conditions.
After the Turbo Mat will be jumping into the Dakar. It’s based on the 911 GTS, so it comes with a 3-litre twin-turbo flat-six that can produce 480hp and 570Nm. So of course it’s a bit down on power, but it comes with a whole load of modifications to make it really stand out. However, given it’s really built for off-roading, will it offer any sort of competition to the power and performance of the 911 Turbo when it comes to driving it on tarmac?
Following this we have the Carrera T. It comes with the same 3-litre-twin turbo flat-six as the Dakar, but in this instance, it can only put down 385hp and 450Nm of torque. What’s more, it’s fitted with a 7-speed manual! It’s the cheapest car Mat will drive on this trip, with the price tag coming in at £106,000 - £9,000 more than the standard Carrera. So it comes with the standard Porsche look and feel on the inside, and it’s also super light, with the rear seats stripped out to really help enhance enjoyment on these twisty mountain roads.
Then finally we have the daddy - the new Porsche 911 GT3 RS! It comes with a glorious 4-litre naturally-aspirated flat-six that can produce 525hp and 465Nm of torque. It weighs in at just 1,450kg, and you can imagine that it sounds absolutely epic when it’s running through the numerous mountain tunnels on this drive.
The question is, can any of the other cars really compete with the new GT3 RS?! Or will it just enhance its name even more and prove to be the ultimate 911? You’ll need to stick with Mat and see for yourself!

That Turbo S being green was the biggest surprise of the entire video
I own an aventurine green Cayman and it does look gray under low light conditions. It is a beautiful shade of green under brighter light. I receive a ton of compliments on the color.
@@adg6729 damn congrats with life man
Yeah, had he not said that I don’t think I’d have noticed it was green.
@@adg6729 definitely a beautiful colour, congrats
@@adg6729it one of those colors that trick people lol
It would be great if carwow made more roadtrips with supercars
Ummm, that's not pracrical right?? Lack of comfort, bad fuel economy, lack of space to carry much gear etc etc
no, Harrys Garage channel for that
@@hassyg4083 Carwow is more entertaining
@@notsofastyt182 German Mat is boring. Harrys Garage lots of road trips with various brands not just german
@@dd4886 🤓
The turbo s running a 2.87 0-60 in those conditions is insaaaaane. Seriously one of the crazier things I’ve seen on this channel when I really think about it.
I totally agree, but then the Dakar was only half a second slower with off-road knobbly tyres and a roof rack full of spare wheels 😂
You're so right. Most other Ferraris and Lambos look way more exciting and desirable, but if I just sit down and think, the 911 is such a clinical car!
@@VarunSarathythe way lambos look is the only good thing about them
@@soulsweeper1630 That's not true. The Huracan is so well-renowned for its precise steering feel and gearbox.
@@VarunSarathy And the sound it makes with its NA V10 is worth its weight in gold
So happy to see the cameraman who’s keeping you alive (cameraman never dies) get a shot with the GT3RS too!
For real, loved this the most about this video. Props to Matt for letting him enjoy it :)
Out of all the 4 Porsches the turbo S is my favorite for this kind of road trip
True, the Turbo S is a masterpiece.
Been my favorite car for half a decade now
I'd prefer the T for daily use because manual
Been my favourite for 60 months
@@JahoSelamaj my left knee disagrees 😅
Seeing the cameraman's reaction to the GT3 RS was so wholesome. Mat is so used to the experience so when you see him drive it, you can tell he's happy but he's not overwhelmed with joy whereas when you see someone who doest get the opportunity to drive these crazy cars on a regular basis get a go he is struggling to contain the excitement and the kid in him is just going crazy. So beautiful to see.
Please do more content like this. It's really informative, and it's better for most casual buyers, who're confused as to which car to get. Carwow never fails to impress.
I'd take that Turbo S. Anything can be made fast...making something THAT FAST *AND* that livable? THAT is TRULY amazing.
German Engineering
Me too
@@hertzair1186
German engineering? You mean that gearbox?
100 percent agree. That is why I owned a 991 Turbo S for five years. Daily drove it. Tracked it at Circuit of the Americas. Took it to the drag strip and on cross country road rallies. Had winter tires and drove it in the snow and it performed great. There was nothing it did not do well.
@@teamredgutz399 Seriously amazing cars.
As a manual 992 T owner, I agree - and the only thing that could pry my car away from me is a GT3 Touring or GT3RS allocation.
What about R/T?
@@oskarskalski2982what’s an r/t
@@oskarskalski2982 you mean S/T
@@SpeedCafeGarage yes, I meant S/T
Mines on the way and I think the same, although my dealer laughed at me when I mentioned the GT3T list…says a Turbo (Non S) is the most likely opportunity next.
These road trips are very good 👍
Carwow should definitely do these in the future. I would like to see one with Yianni if possible
and racing driver Sam!
I'm mat Watson...
And you are watching carwow
I think he doesnt mention it anymore because carwow is a team and not just Mat alone
Wat Matson from warcow
Wtf is this trend now saw some similar comment on last video and it exploded somehow
And you're watching carwow
42 minutes… never got bored…Thank you Matt!!We enjoyed it!!!👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻more roadtrips to come?
I added the magnetic paddles from the RS to my 2024 GT3 - paddles were $750 plus $200 to have them installed. A lot less expensive than the Wessach package for $29,000.
Where did you purchase them from?
We love the GT3 rs. Yet, could not have a better line up in my opinion. Smashed it Matt!!
Optic wise it's GT3 RS for me, overall Turbo S. But I agree with Mat: the Carrera T is pretty much all a mere mortal needs.
0:11 wow, what a shot! Needs to be a Wallpaper 🤩
Please pump out more content like this!!! Love it🤩🤩🤩
Might be worth mentioning that 911 T when put on Dyno mine is 410 up from 385, and for those obsessed with 0-60 time in dry the PDK will dip under 4secs..amazing car
S/T would have been interesting too.
As other reviewers said its the best 911 for these roads. Looks lovely too!
Great video! I enjoyed it very much!!
Porsche 911s are literally the best in the world
My favorite color on 992 Carrera, S, 4S, Turbo and Turbo S. My 21 992 4S is in Aventurine Green Metalic, I absolutely love the color, color shifting green to grey depending upon the lighting conditions.
3.5 seconds to 60 with tyres on the roof 😂
Porsche it's sound, it's passion, it's total love. I adore their cars. I hope to own one of them someday 😌
The RS is a weapon. You just know Porsche is working on a GT2 RS that will be a bonkers, track record setter.
All my life I've lusted after the Turbo S, for me, nothing's changed.
In 5 years I will do this kind of road trip with that Turbo S🍀
You're such a good presenter. You're not starstruck by anything, you have fun and the joy is fun to watch, and your advice is always pragmatic. Love all your stuff.
The minutes of the Gt3 rs proves how matt loves it
One of the best videos I've seen on this channel. Matt your joy when u drive the gt3 rs is completely genuine and that's lovely.
Defo the ‘T’ as the value all rounder - PDK and Guards Red lands imminently.. can’t wait!😊
Love this keep the content up!!
This was a Christmas treat. I can't get enough of Porsche videos and this has definitely delivered. When people ask me why men love cars so much - I'll show them Matt in the Dakar/GT3RS.
I think your review is spot on. I have been fortunate in owning a couple 911s over the years, and for the price, there is no better 911 than the 911 T. Just a pure driver's car.
If money was no issue, I'd take the TS.
The GT3RS is too much for me with this big wing.
The TS is the best compromise and a masterpiece.
That was a terrific video Mat, love road trips. Beautiful cars, the RS looks insane, congratulations on getting your dream car.
Your UK program and content outshines your US one by miles! The 911 is magical.
Love that manual Carrera T! Option it with the sport design front bumper and some colourful interior trim details and it’s perfect
That’s exactly how I spec’d mine (in Guards Red). Can’t wait to get it delivered!
Try and get that Passat on the channel Matt. Looks like it was keeping up with the Turbo in the bends.
It was racing driver Sam trying to get involved 🤣🤣🤣
The smile when going thru the tunnel. :)
People who say CarWow is only drag race videos need to watch this. Comprehensive overview and driving impressions of each model. I felt like I was riding shotgun. Well done Mat.
Absolutely love the turbo s, it's such a flexible and all rounder car, love it.
Agreed but I wish it had a better sounding engine
@@johnnyboy1586 aftermarket exhaust...
@@NikosPeragreed. I hand a Tubi cat less race exhaust on mine and it was sensational. The stock exhaust made it sound like a lawnmower
Finally something that isn’t a drag race 🔥 👏🏻 I’m obsessed with Porsche and you ain’t making it any easier 😂 the Turbo is amazing and the GT3 RS sounds like a dream but I’d be happy even with a T! I want the Dakar height though, roads suck big time in Italy 😢 🇮🇹
You're obsessed with a car company that can only convince 300,000 people a year to purchase their product?
I have friends with Porsches, every single one of them paid over sticker for a car they leave in their garage. I don't get why someone would pay so much for a car they don't use... Especially when nowadays they aren't even fast anymore. 🤔
That was very needed video, I could finally feel what a Porche 911 Turbo S and GT3 RS could give you in mode daily drive roads and situations. Appriciate it and looking forward for more of these type of videos.
This could be my favorite format of a video form carwow. That was fantastic to have him drive so many options back to back.
So basically this was "Matt Justifies His Purchase: The Movie" 🤣
Can you share the exact roads you took from Lyon to Monaco ? The trip looks stunning, looking to replicate it soon.
Looks like he went via Grenoble, then the road to Gap.
@@harolddemaine To add, at 14:50, he's at snack du lac at St André les Alpes (road from Dignes-les-Bains to Nice, through the Alps)
With the Carrera T, it seems he was around the lake de Castillon and Castellane
And with the GT3RS, it seems to be the backcountry at the north and east of Grasse
Who owns 911 HUL number plate? Remember it from earlier vids.
Another incredible episode from Carwow! Thank you Mat
This was such a great video. Awsome cars, great presenter and absolutely gorgeous scenery. It reminds me of the old (good) Top Gear episodes.
I’ll take the Passat please 😂
Love the spec on the Turbo S ❤️
One of The BEST Videos ever! Thank You CarWow
The Turbo S makes a superb Grand Tourer . . nice road trip.
Absolutely love these sort of videos - pure love for cars. I want to do an epic road trip in my 440i before it's game over and we are forced to whizz around in electric cars
Maybe we shouldn’t let these woke governments force us to adopt EVs?
Turbo S for me and yes, Matt, you and your team need to do more road trips.
I had a lot of fun watching this , thanks a lot
These are the videos I subscribed for❤
Matt's be living everyone's dream
You didn't watch the whole video did you
I’m really happy in a manual 911T with no back seats (Rubystone Neo 💓 ) and sport classic wheels.
The others all cost too much, so I think I shall agree with Matt’s T conclusions 😊
Fantastic and fun video! They are all lovely, of course, every one a dream come true. And I feel even better…because I just got a T in shark blue! Congrats on the GT3RS Mr. Watson! ❤🎉
41:27 that angle is so sweet on the RS, i've seen a couple in person now and they look incredible.
Turbo s is obviously the best by far
i’m carwow and you’re watching mat watson
This guy has the best job in the world❤
absolute legend in the passat gt3 dog edition 🔥🔥🔥
I got a T a few weeks ago to replace my Taycan. PDK, rear seats in, what a fantastic daily driver!
I was a bit concerned that every review I've seen to date says the T is everything you need, it's the same message from everyone. But it really is everything you need!
That’s awesome. Do you miss the ludicrous acceleration from your Taycan?
@@RR-ht9db tbh, not really. The acceleration is obviously different, but it's more emotional in the 911, it's not clinical like the Taycan. And I really missed that and I'm glad to have it back.
TBH though, my 2023 Macan GTS is probably my favourite car I've owned. Do everything, fast, sounds incredible.
@@noway-85 thanks for the feedback! I totally resonate with cars having that emotional feeling, and it’s never been the fastest ones for me either. Funny enough, my DIESEL BMW X3 is also one of the best cars I’ve ever had 😍
@@RR-ht9db I changed a 3.0d x3 for the Macan! 😂 I loved that car too
@@noway-85 yup, 30d here too 😂 it was between a Macan T and the X3 30d. The Macan was sublime to drive but ultimately lacked some grunt and was quite a bit more expensive with zero spec. Classic Porsche 😂
Porsche is the best!
I love road trip videos. Please make more of them.
You can tell by Adam’s facial expression that he is loving the fact that he is driving that car.
Great work mat keep it up!!
What a banger of a video! More like this please :)
That VW Passat was the Banger lol driver was so jealous of Mat in the 911 lol
That's a really great job, I really like it! The way you did it is fantastic. It's very impressive and I'm so pleased with your work.
fr made my month with this video.
I would pick the carrera t aswell simply because of the manual
I'm the guy who was driving the Passat and if I didn't have a 200pound dog at the back, I would have humiliated you mate.
Yanni
Think you did ... You'd of passed him in that weather if he was in his Gt3 RS.
Awesome video! Need more of this. 🙌🏻
This video is the perfect gift for Christmas . 4 dream cars in the ALPS . The GT 3 RS is still the best but i can't imagine to use it every day . I would be happy with a CARRERA GTS and the good options (4 wheels drive, Chassis sport, a full leather seat with 18 settings and more) I am too old for the full carbon seats. Thank you MAT.
It’s a shame that the 992 GTS, which many top motoring journalists consider to be the sweet spot of the 911, and Porsche themselves kind of market as the best all round 911 is not in this test. As it has almost Turbo level straight line performance and can do a bit of the GT3 stuff on track too. Perfect for road trips and love mine.
GTS its not "classic" model
This video is a testament to why Carwow stands out! Each model brought its unique flair to the journey - the Turbo S with its unmatched power, the Carrera T for its classic charm, and even though the GT3 RS and Dakar are not everyone's cup of tea, they add that extra thrill. Big shoutout to the crew for their impeccable work, and Matt, your presentation skills are top-notch as always! 🚗💨🏔👏
All great cars. My 996 is the practically the same power and torque as the 'T'. Absolutely no contest around a track but would be interesting to see the straight line performance comparison between NA and forced induction
Some beautiful roads - with some of the best cars to take on those roads. Great video
This would have been so much work to shoot these videos! Thanks a lot to the crew of carwow and all the hard work the people do! Love you all! Oh and thanks to Adam as well, he can survive matt that's worth a praise 😂
Great video as always. Wondering if you would consider the carrera S instead of the carrera T? Cheers
He said in the video that he would take the T over the S
@rajmathur5624 yes I checked again and clearly he mentioned that, thank you. But wondering why!!! Since the S has more power, is really not worth the extra few $?
This is SO much better than Shmee. That guy lives in fantasy land.
what are you on about
Shmee is born to rich Burton clothing family
Excellent detailed reviews and comparisons.
Really nice insight compared other reviews of these cars.
I still think the GTS PDK is the best bang for buck, gotta love those • Front: 6-piston aluminum monobloc fixed calipers with 408mm cross-drilled and internally vented brake discs
• Rear: 4-piston aluminum monobloc fixed calipers with 380 mm cross-drilled and internally vented brake discs. Thank you for the hard work you put in this review !
Manual is honestly not that bad in traffic. 🤣 Why does everyone make it sound like it's actually hell?
Because it is.
try it in los angeles or san francisco
Turbo S it is the ultimate driving machine, period (It's ever been BTW) but... the 911T it's the right "everyday sportcar" with just the things that you really need from basic commuting to some fun driving.
Love it! Thank you 🤩🤩🤩
Love the Videos!
getting those spares off the roof looks like a task
Love the thumbnail!! A proper driver, with a drivers car, DRIVING IT!!
This review was perfect and had lots of information about cars. Porsches are outstanding, especially the GT3 RS is on another level. thanks for this.💙💙❤❤🏎🏎

I love these kind of vids!
Simon has leveled up on his watch game! Simon's making that big bread now!
The dakar is bloody lovely! Hope to see more races with it and the taycan cross turismo!
Really comprehensive video. Loved the whole thing
If I lived within 100 miles from the Nurburgring I'd have the GT3RS but since I don't I'll take the Turbo as a daily driver
this is my fav video of the year 😭 thanks mat🙏🏻💙
