When I was 3, my mother taught me my first “recipe:” tuna fish, for toasted tuna fish sandwiches. (Drain a can of tuna, add 2 teaspoons of sweet relish and two tablespoons of Miracle Whip/mayo. Mix it up, butter the bread, put the bottom slice on the grill, add the tuna, put on the top slice, close the grill.) That was my favorite lunch, unless we had toasted cheese sandwiches, my other favorite. I was about 30 when someone mentioned you could combine the two for a tuna melt! Heavenly! I’ve spent most of my life in the Pacific Northwest of the US, and I’ve toasted my sandwiches on a waffle iron/grill. (The metal plates flip over - waffles on one side, flat grill on the other.) I am very grateful to have found your channel - I’m learning a lot and getting new ideas to use with my old cooking skills. Thank you for all the work you put into each video - it’s really appreciated! I hope you heal in record time! Thinking of you, Cam

Such a good idea to freeze them. Here's a wee hint for you. If you put your cheese and onion in a bowl, then dribble a little boiling water over it (not much, maybe a tbl sp depending on how much you're making), then work it with a knife. You'll be able to spread the mixture and it won't fall out everywhere when you move your toasty to your machine. Way easier if you're making club sammies too. Speedy recovery❤

I used to do this for my boys when they were younger. All ham and cheese. Saved messing up the kitchen all the time. I used to wrap them in clingfilm and put them back into the bread bag. Must do it again.
Yes what you were referring to we call jaffles in Australia. I liked the first electric jaffle irons that came out. They didn’t have the slicing action across the sandwich and you could crack an egg onto the bread and it didn’t run out. With the new style you can’t do that. It runs everywhere.

Brilliant idea. I'm going to do this.
I had a knee replacement 18 months ago and its changed my life. Try and weight bear as much as you can. Moving really reduces the pain quickly. My physio told me in the beginning of week 3 to get rid of the crutches and just walk and it was the best advice. Good luck in your recovery Stacy. Sending love and best wishes to you. Thank you for all your clever tips. I'm vegan but I can still use lots of your clever tips and tricks.

Brilliant idea, especially just to have on hand for days when you’re feeling unwell or too busy. I like cheese, gherkin, tomato and bbq sauce but will now also do the cheese, ham & pineapple one as that sounds really yummy. I usually also add chilli flakes in my toasties.

Hope you are recovering well.. toasted sandwiches or toasties done in a sandwich press, when camping we use a raffle iron. Fillings are basically what you have already mentioned, but another good one, is left over pasta bolognaise or the sauce. When it's cold it's thickened and we used that as the filling, same as left over savoury mince. You can add grated cheese if you want as well. Totally yummy as...❤😊

I do like a tuna melt - canned tuna drained and mixed with mayo and balsamic vinegar on dry toast, covered with cheese, onion, and jalapenos and some chicken & garlic stock powder and grilled.

What a brilliant idea! A practical gift to someone you know finding things tough , especially now. Takes the pressure off knowing there is simple food for school holidays, after school, and times when Mum needs a break or anyone for that matter. A couple of bags, one for the fridge, one for the freezer and even a lesson how to make them for the young foodies in the house. And then they can have a go at the selfsaucing chocolate pudding with double sauce with a little supervision! The beginning of willing hands to help the family.

Hope your not in too much pain and that the crutches are being kind to you. My favourite toastie is chopped chicken and fresh diced tomato, I grew up calling them brevilles as my Mum had a Breville sandwich/jaffle maker but my kids call them toasties. I never thought of pre-making the sandwiches, such a good idea 😊❤😊❤

Wow! First of all, sending healing prayers and positive vibes to you all the way from North Western Ontario!!
Your sandwich toaster here in Canada we would probably call a Panini maker (?? maybe). I don't think they are too common in peoples homes though. What we would call a "Grilled Sandwich" would be just fried in a frying pan. A "Toasted Sandwich" would be a sandwich made in two slices of toast from a regular toaster. A "Hot sandwich" may be something smothered in gravy, like a hot turkey sandwich or the like. Also pineapple on a sandwich is virtually unheard of up here in the north.
Who would have thought a warm sandwich would become so complicated, lol.
    Personally, I don't have a favourite, I love all Sammiches equally!! 🥪💗

Same in the States, the sandwich press has taken it's time making it across the pond).. The George Foreman type grill is pretty similar (those are pretty common in homes here) and the oil paper is parchment paper. There's no clean up. I love that.

Dear Stacey, I wish you all the best for yor surgery tomorrow. Do Not worry, this kind of operation is routine for today´s surgeons. I have had a knee operation myself. Please make sure you wear an apron with at least one pocket, so you can carry stuff from A to B. I filled my Coffee into a thermo cup, so I could take it to my place of eating/drinking. Plates are more difficult - I ate in the kitchen, preferable something you can eat with a spoon. Remember, you must not stand on the wrong leg!
