  • See More Garden Goodies: www.WisconsinGarden.com - - - - - - We’ve often talked about a second life for alliums after they dry. We will be spray painting alliums again this year and install them throughout our garden as garden art. It’s always fun watching alliums develop and bloom with impressive flower heads that look like nature’s own fireworks garden art display. We will also be inviting some of our neighbors get involved with this project as well spreading enthusiasm for planting more throughout our neighborhood.

    I sprayed painted the allium seed heads a light purple color one year, and lots of folks stopped to admire and inquire about those long-lasting blooms. Of course, I had to fess up that I had spray painted them. How fun! ~Margie

      Good morning Margie. It is really fun when neighbors or passing cars stop to see what kind of flowering plants we are growing, Like us many years ago, we were so impressed we had to stop and ask. It's a fun project for the entire family, especially at times like this. It's funny, we still have many visitors, but everyone stands at least 10' or more away. People desperately want to talk with one another. We too understand. Gardening is a true blessing. Giving our Alliums a second life was a lot of fun. Glad to hear you do this as well.

      @@WisconsinGarden I have been painting my alliums for at least ten years. I even have a video on how I did this. No idea on how to link the video here. :0) I avoided painting any of the stem. I want to make them look in their natural state. But I do like yours, fun and showy. Your gardens are really starting to fill in beautifully. I am sure Richard is happy since he loves the wild and full look. Did your Perilla come back this year?

    Hi. Just thought I would let you know I am ok. The fires are still going but are being contained and lessened. There has been rain in some areas where the fires are. Lots of people have lost everything and some places that had timber are like deserts. Trees and everything are gone. It was wind that rapidly spread the fire. The smoke was so thick the air quality was at dangerous levels for days. The rain helped with that.
    I hope you have a good rest of September, Karan

      Good morning Karan. We can't begin to imagine what you, and so many others in your area, have been going through. It's beyond devastating and beyond words. But, we glad you are safe and healthy even in the midst of this pandemic. When continually checking up on Richard's sister she also mentioned the poor air quality and they live along the ocean. Please continue to be safe and #KeepTheLoveGrowing. Lynn & Richard - www.WisconsinGarden.com

    Im a new gardener in wisconsin i was wondering if its too late to plant lettuce into the ground?

    • @WisconsinGarden
      @WisconsinGarden  3 года назад

      Hello Micio. Welcome to gardening. You are not alone. This year, we've seen an amazing spike and interest in starting a home garden. Nothing beat the taste of what you've grown in your own garden, including lettuce.
      Since lettuce is a hardy, fast-growing annual crop, it's known to grow well in cool weather, both in spring and in fall. There's still time to plant seeds in your garden as early as 4-6 weeks before the average date of last frost. Depending upon where you live in Wisconsin, that date can vary from October 1 thru October 31st.
      Just keep in mind rabbits and other critters looking for an easy meal. You could also begin plants indoors and plant them several weeks before last frost. Covering them would also extend your growing season. Hope you get to eat them before the rabbits. Hope you found this helpful.
      We have something we think would prove helpful. If like to see more videos of how our gardens have progressed over the years, you'll see what we do and how we do it here in Wisconsin.
      We'd love to send you a free copy of our latest 23-page video Directory indexing over 950 of our Garden Videos that we've arranging by topic and year of Interest from A thru Z. We've even included hotlinks for instant access to each individual garden video.
      Simply email me at: lynn@WisconsinGarden.com and please Add 'A-Z' in your message. Thanks again for watching, caring and sharing. Stay safe, healthy and happy. #KeepTheLoveGrowing Lynn & Richard - www.WisconsinGarden.com

      @SuperWoodyboy 3 года назад +1

      no...near the soil line

    • @WisconsinGarden
      @WisconsinGarden  3 года назад

      Hi Judy. As mentioned, Allium leaves are near the ground from which a stalk and flower head will appear. Depending upon the variety of Allium you buy or have, the size of the flower head and density will vary from really large to small. The is another plant you will want in your garden if you don't already have.
      We're glad you enjoyed another one of our garden videos. And as mentioned before, we have lots more to share but we can't do it here. I truly think you'd find many of our videos helpful. If you'd like, email: lynn@WisconsinGarden.com and we'll send you a free copy ASAP.
