  • For several months, Richard’s been asking me to make some Dinosaur Kale chips. Since we had our first frost last night and early this morning, I knew the Dinosaur kale was getting sweeter and I wanted to do something different. I told Richard I was going to make him a kale surprise. Now that’s very difficult to do since he’s filming me so when the time was right, I asked him to leave the kitchen, and wait for his surprise in the dining room. This video records his reactions to what I made him. Now I have another successful twist that really pleased his taste buds.
    For those viewers new to our channel, we’ve recently published a 24-page Garden Video Blog Directory eBook listing over 1,000 of our garden videos each arranged by topic of interest from A-Z. You should have seen how I misread Richard's favorite chocolate chip cookie recipe this week. I had to make it up to him. So, I'm glad he really liked his kale peanut butter on warm toast as a special taste bud surprise. It worked! TKS Lynn

    We’re selling Dinosaur Kale at the nursery I work at as an ornamental plant for fall planters. Loved the look and nabbed one for myself and put it in my mailbox planter with some pansies and mums. All the neighbors love the look of it, but unfortunately the deer will treat it like a Pizza Hut buffet if I forget to spray it every couple of days

      Hi Nick. You're going to what to cage yours in the future. It really is easy to grow and healthy to eat, especially with seasoning. Now one of Richard's favorites. Thank you for watching, caring and sharing. Happy Fall - "Keep The Love Growing." - Lynn & Richard - www.WisconsinGarden.com

    Kale is a four letter word that ends in E. Could be a kid's name for Richard's formula.

    I did dinosaur kale for the first time this year because I love the color! Mine got eaten to the stem! How’d you keep yours so clean?

    • @WisconsinGarden
      @WisconsinGarden  Год назад

      Good Morning Deanna. Dinosaur kale is easy to grow, healthy and delicious to eat in soups, salads and as seen as chips. So good. We're also fascinated by its colorful bumpy leafy structure and now grow it every year.
      When you say got eaten to the stem, did you mean by critters or that it was so good you ate the entire leaf?
      We often grow our kale in our original SW garden area which is enclosed and rarely disturbed or eaten by anything other than us. Little bugs, flies and plant caterpillars are another matter we try our best to monitor. We do not use any herbicides or fertilizers other than the compost mixture we use when planting. Once established we let Mother Nature do all the watering.
      Not sure by how we keep our so clean? Kale or soil? We do our best to keep our raised bed vegetable gardens as free of weeds as possible. But with our busy schedules that's not always possible every week. That's OK. We get to each are as we continue to address another area of our gardens. While we only have a little more than 1/2 an acre, our various gardens surround our home and property which give us a lot of material to cover in our garden videos covering our eclectic experimental gardens. Hope this was helpful.
      As always, thank you for taking the time to watch, care and share. Happy Fall - "Keep The Love Growing." - Lynn & Richard - www.WisconsinGarden.com

    Hmmmm...that is one ugly plant...hope the taste makes up for it!

      Happy Sunday Tim. Had our first frosty freeze Friday night and early Saturday morning. May the Kale even sweeter. It may not be the prettiest of plants, but it is great in salads and soups and as you saw after seasoning, it put a really big smile on Richard's taste buds as a Kale peanut butter delight. I guess it made up for the chocolate chip recipe that I made this week. Now it's halftime so we decided to check comments while watching the Packers play in London. Go Pack Go. Hope all is well in the U.P. As always, thanks again for watching, caring and sharing. Happy Fall - "Keep The Love Growing." - Lynn & Richard - www.WisconsinGarden.com

      @@WisconsinGarden You could insult the humble turnip by saying,"You are ugly as kale but you are growing on me."

    • @WisconsinGarden
      @WisconsinGarden  Год назад

      We will not TurnUp our nose at any plant. We want all of our plants to grow and flourish in a healthy environment. If it weren't for the variety of Flora and Fauna we humans are blessed to plant, grow and eat, life itself would not exist. We'd truly be in dire straits, and I'm not just referring to the musical group. Grow Kale Grow! TKS L&R
