Sinead, this is so helpful!
I wish all the make up artists in my country could watch this video! I have been a subscriber for 3 years now and I'm learning so much from you, that I hardly go to a salon to do my makeup now. Not that I'm an expert, but I'm so grossed out on how filthy their make up brushes are! They don't use disposable tools nor sanitize their make up :(.
Love all your videos, so helpful :) could you do one on best makeup brushes for different uses?
These are really good tips girl, thanks !
Thank you SO MUCH! I've been wanting this exact information for ages! :) Thanks, Sineady! Great vid--simple and sweet.
I rly missed you this monday and last friday:) glad you are back. I also use this tip to clean my makeup.
This is short but crystal clear! Just the way I like it. Thank you!

Phoebe Rebekah Hawthorn just get face wash and put it in your hand and rub your brush in the face wash.
It looks pretty simple but incredibly useful. Thanks for sharing these tips.
Glad to see i use the same methods you suggested, i also spray my makeup brushes after washing to make sure it's extra clean & i spot clean them in between uses, i'm very particular about that
This was Really Helpful Sinead, thanks

I've been wanting to sanitize my makeup for awhile and was thinking of using rubbing alcohol but was worried it would dry up my creams and change the formula of my powders.Glad to know that it won't affect the make up products

I have a question. How often should we sanitize our makeup? Daily, weekly, monthly?
WOW thanks so much !
This was soo helpful!
You can also use a CD instead of the steel plate, i could never find those anywhere
Awesome info! Thanks :)
You should do a video about sanitizing makeup brushes!
Thank u for confirming a method i already use, with added tips i like the method of spraying alcohol and air drying, i use alcohol pads
I have a very important question to ask you ma'am seeing the present prevailing situation throughout the world it is really very important to sanitize everything and I purposely search this video and I found your one and I really went to look forward it and I really appreciated that the way you have made it clearly mention how to sanitize your makeup which is really important my question is that how many time should we sanitize our products in a week it is really important please do answer I will be waiting for it
Do you live in Ireland , if so where do you but nyx??
With the creams, since they take so long for the alchol to dry can i just wipe it off? I did that with my anastasia brow pomade
Can you use hydrgen peroxide
I have that stuff you are using. can you use it on your brushes? xx something i heard but i wanted to ask you.
so helpful! :)
Love this ^_^
So your saying I can use the lipstick from tube on client using a brush if I sanitize it before and after?
fabulous!! xoxo-Bonnie
I wish I used a palette so I'd be able to get more use out of some of my limited edition gel liners. I've always felt bad about double-dipping but it's impossible not to without a palette when you're in a rush.
What percentage rubbing alcohol is best to use when sanitizing makeup??
I am writing you once again please reply to this question how many times should we sanitize the product in a week
If you are the only person using your products how often do you need to sanitize them?
where are you from?
How often should you sanitize your makeup?
I'm going to sanitize my makeup today! Thanks for the video! :)
doesnt surgical spirit leaves smell on these makeup products???
Great thanks for this video! But I was wondering, will spraying the eyeshadows seal them? (as some makeup gurus say when using eyeshadows wet never wet the whole shadow only a tiny corner of it) so does it apply in this case or not?!! are u still able to use these shadows even after they're sprayed?!! xxx thank youuu xo
It drys out completely, it's not like water it evaporates and kills off bacteria as it does so. Wait for it to dry completely and then it's ready.
Perfect thank you very much! :D xx I really enjoy your videos by the way! Xx
if only I wasn't lazy to do all of this lmao
Surgical spirit????? Thats the name for rubbing alcohol??? Gah that sounds so much cooler...
How many times in a week we should sanitizer makeup with rubbing alcohol
Hey sinade. Were did you get your nyx from. I can't seem to find any in Dublin
There is a store in Tralee Co Kerry called CH Chemist :)
tralee is waay to far just to get nyx. thank you for replying by the way. loove your channel
They're available in shaws in Athy, Kildare! Only came in a couple of weeks ago

A friend on mine went through my makeup recently and ended up using one of my mascaras. Is there any way I can disinfect it? It's an expensive mascara for me so replacing it isn't really an ideal option.
as long as they didn't have some sort of eye infection you should be ok
So apart from athy and Kerry does anyone else know where u can get Nyx from ??????
好棒
I even didn't know you should sanitize them...nice video
I only use my products for myself. How often do I need to sanitize them? :)
That will depend on a lot of factors, such as hand washing before using, if you leave them in one place or lug them around in your purse, the environment, etc. but a good rule of thumb is once a week for products you use at least three times a week. I spritz my brushes with alcohol after every use, and then wash my brushes with soapy water once a week.
Also, I'd like to add: DON'T use anti-bacterial sprays or other anti-bacterial products. This will leave behind the most virulent bacteria to grow, and you don't want a MRSA infection anywhere on your face. Alcohol creates an environment that is not conducive to bacterial growth, which is different than anti-bacterials.
Jaimes Thanks!
Jaimes i dont think its a good idea to spray alcohol on ur brushes especially the natural hair ones.. replace with tea tree oil and pure water mix might be better (learn that from Tati's channel) about 15 drops of tee tree oil per 30ml of water :)
Jaimes as alcohol will dry out the hair and shorten the life of the brush
fanfan0846
I've used it for decades, and I haven't had a problem (that could be because I also wash with soapy water often, and I rotate them). If you use the same natural hair brushes daily, tea tree oil would be a fine alternative. Thanks for the input!
Just wondering if anyone knows the best way to keep liquid liner sanitary?
I'd imagine it would be the the same as mascara (if it's a liquid liner with a wand). I don't know if they sell disposible wands for liquid liners, but it's something you could look into. If it's a marker style liquid eyeliner, I'm sure you could just spray the tip with alcohol.
+brittsNAY I ended up just buying the clay liner from tarte because it's in a squeeze tube lol I was asking for use on my clients, not necessarily personal use but I'll definitely Google for some disposal wands when I run out of the Tarte liner (:
Really helpfull.
I have a challenge for you(themakeupchair):
Do a full makeup design with tutorial on it using only urban decay products. Good luck- sincerely, querky makeup scifi geek
I would love a video about cleaning up my make up brushes. no matter what i do they just never feel fresh enough.
You can deep clean them using baby shampoo and swirl the bristles on your hand under running warm water. Keep doing this until the water comes out clear. I also bought a silicone oven mitt that has ridges (basically looks like the Sigma brush cleaner glove) but it was only $5 (from Walmart) .. you can also find on ebay. So basically swirl the bristles on the mitt instead of your hand. Prior to this step you can really disinfect brushes by swirling them in some rubbing alcohol (just make sure you don't dip the ferule as it can cause it to swell up, crack and results in the loss of bristles). Then, continue with the former step of cleaning them with shampoo and warm water. Also, if you have really fluffy brushes and you wan't to maintain their softness, you can finish off by washing them with a gentle conditioner also wit warm water :) Hope this helped!
I use Johnson's baby shampoo. The yellow one. I put a little shampoo in my palm, wet the brush I'm washing, then swirl the brush around in my hand. Then I rinse the brush under warm water, gently squeezing down the brush (starting from the part that is attached to the handle). That seems to wring the makeup out of it. I repeat that process once or twice for the dirtiest brushes (like a foundation brush that has been used daily that week). This process gets my brushes SO clean and the baby shampoo is very gentle. However, this will only get the oils & makeup out. If you want to disinfect your brushes, spritz with alcohol after washing.
thank you so much! will defintly be giving the baby shampoo a go x
hi dear, do you know how wasteful is to use disposable wands?
it's not friendly to the earth.
I believe it would be better if you live by reducing, reusing and recycling. btw I love your makeup videos a lot!
with love, jiesi
from Singapore
For use on other people you must use disposables, obviously not on yourself. I use brushes that I can wash and reuse as much as possible but for makeup artist it's sometime unavoidable!
I want that sharpener! Now im really speechless about this! Is it really safe?? I mean after sanitizing the make up products, is it really safe to apply them back on my face...?😶 I mean that whole sanitizing the sharpener & eye pencils is definitely what I'll do but I'm not so sure about the eye shadows & blush etc.... What if my skin becomes bad after the whole sanitizing. And I use make up wipes to clean out my eye pencil sharpener... Is that okay???
This is just my opinion, but if you're worried about any residual alcohol, I don't think you have anything to worry about. Alcohol is a very volatile liquid and will simply evaporate after a while. I think you can put it in the fridge so that you're sure that it will evaporate completely. Again, just my opinion. :)
thanks!!! needed a second opinion! :)
I don't enjoy the way she sprays the powder and lipsticks with alcohol... I am a professional makeup artist, and went to school to receive my certificate, and we were taught to just wipe the top layer really good off of any powder products with a clean tissue, as well as to do the same with lipstick. spraying it with alcohol won't hurt it, but it is a really unnecessary step.
Anna Lucky thank you! your opinion really helps me!!! I've always just wiped my makeup products with a tissue! glad its what professional makeup artists do as well! *relieved*
Where to get the steal Platte?
Search online a lot of places have it x
You can easily find it on ebay. I got a metal palette & matching spatula for just a few euros :)
Your voice is so soothing! Ever thought about being a 911 operator lol
why do you need to clean it so often ?
Because you dont want germ and disease on client...
Because if you are a professional makeup artist, it's a safety hazard not to when using products on various people
Wait why do we need to sanitize our makeup?
I am too lazy to do this.
In addition to the over 90% pure rubbing alcohol, you can also put some items in the freezer for 48 hours. I do this with open mascara, eyeliners and lipsticks. I haven't tried it with liquid foundation but the freezer kills bacteria. I'm not a makeup artist, I just do it for myself to prevent eye infections or to be safe if I purchase unsealed items online.
Just a heads up - 70% alcohol works better than the stronger concentrations when it comes to killing germs! Essentially, the water helps the alcohol get through the cell wall better, and higher concentrations of alcohol actually can shock the germs into forming protective spores around themselves.
I've been doing this for ages but i use 99% isopropyl alcohol :)
With regular alcohol can it be done the same way? Spray direct on powder blush?
Adoreu What do you mean by regular alcohol? You should only use surgical spirit as Sinead explained in the video which is usually a concentration of around 70% or else 99% isopropyl alcohol like I use.
Yes, I was talking about the 99% isopropyl alcohol that you use. I've never heard of the one she mentioned.
The one she used is actually much more common :) It can be easily found in any drugstore :) .. and Yes, it can definitely be done with 99% isopropyl alcohol. In fact, the higher the percentage the faster it will evaporate making it much less likely to damage products :)
Aint nobody got time for that
Seriously u can't sanitize mascara the wand maybe what what about the product inside gross !!
Oops,I'm gonna die,I never clean my makeup. :\
Haha I never knew you had to clean your make up
Thanks for the tips! Sanitizing is very important, not just for makeup artists! :)
