    I wish all the make up artists in my country could watch this video! I have been a subscriber for 3 years now and I'm learning so much from you, that I hardly go to a salon to do my makeup now. Not that I'm an expert, but I'm so grossed out on how filthy their make up brushes are! They don't use disposable tools nor sanitize their make up :(.

      It drys out completely, it's not like water it evaporates and kills off bacteria as it does so. Wait for it to dry completely and then it's ready.

    I only use my products for myself. How often do I need to sanitize them? :)

    • @jaimie00
      @jaimie00 10 лет назад +7

      That will depend on a lot of factors, such as hand washing before using, if you leave them in one place or lug them around in your purse, the environment, etc. but a good rule of thumb is once a week for products you use at least three times a week. I spritz my brushes with alcohol after every use, and then wash my brushes with soapy water once a week.
      Also, I'd like to add: DON'T use anti-bacterial sprays or other anti-bacterial products. This will leave behind the most virulent bacteria to grow, and you don't want a MRSA infection anywhere on your face. Alcohol creates an environment that is not conducive to bacterial growth, which is different than anti-bacterials.

    • @fanfan0846
      @fanfan0846 10 лет назад

      Jaimes i dont think its a good idea to spray alcohol on ur brushes especially the natural hair ones.. replace with tea tree oil and pure water mix might be better (learn that from Tati's channel) about 15 drops of tee tree oil per 30ml of water :)

    • @fanfan0846
      @fanfan0846 10 лет назад

      Jaimes as alcohol will dry out the hair and shorten the life of the brush

    • @jaimie00
      @jaimie00 10 лет назад +1

      fanfan0846
      I've used it for decades, and I haven't had a problem (that could be because I also wash with soapy water often, and I rotate them). If you use the same natural hair brushes daily, tea tree oil would be a fine alternative. Thanks for the input!

    Just wondering if anyone knows the best way to keep liquid liner sanitary?

    • @brittsNAY
      @brittsNAY 8 лет назад

      I'd imagine it would be the the same as mascara (if it's a liquid liner with a wand). I don't know if they sell disposible wands for liquid liners, but it's something you could look into. If it's a marker style liquid eyeliner, I'm sure you could just spray the tip with alcohol.

    • @freakyeah95
      @freakyeah95 8 лет назад

      +brittsNAY I ended up just buying the clay liner from tarte because it's in a squeeze tube lol I was asking for use on my clients, not necessarily personal use but I'll definitely Google for some disposal wands when I run out of the Tarte liner (:

    • @LuluScarn
      @LuluScarn 10 лет назад

      You can deep clean them using baby shampoo and swirl the bristles on your hand under running warm water. Keep doing this until the water comes out clear. I also bought a silicone oven mitt that has ridges (basically looks like the Sigma brush cleaner glove) but it was only $5 (from Walmart) .. you can also find on ebay. So basically swirl the bristles on the mitt instead of your hand. Prior to this step you can really disinfect brushes by swirling them in some rubbing alcohol (just make sure you don't dip the ferule as it can cause it to swell up, crack and results in the loss of bristles). Then, continue with the former step of cleaning them with shampoo and warm water. Also, if you have really fluffy brushes and you wan't to maintain their softness, you can finish off by washing them with a gentle conditioner also wit warm water :) Hope this helped!

    • @jess_bounce
      @jess_bounce 10 лет назад +1

      I use Johnson's baby shampoo. The yellow one. I put a little shampoo in my palm, wet the brush I'm washing, then swirl the brush around in my hand. Then I rinse the brush under warm water, gently squeezing down the brush (starting from the part that is attached to the handle). That seems to wring the makeup out of it. I repeat that process once or twice for the dirtiest brushes (like a foundation brush that has been used daily that week). This process gets my brushes SO clean and the baby shampoo is very gentle. However, this will only get the oils & makeup out. If you want to disinfect your brushes, spritz with alcohol after washing.

    • @nenek9846
      @nenek9846 10 лет назад

      thank you so much! will defintly be giving the baby shampoo a go x

    I want that sharpener! Now im really speechless about this! Is it really safe?? I mean after sanitizing the make up products, is it really safe to apply them back on my face...?😶 I mean that whole sanitizing the sharpener & eye pencils is definitely what I'll do but I'm not so sure about the eye shadows & blush etc.... What if my skin becomes bad after the whole sanitizing. And I use make up wipes to clean out my eye pencil sharpener... Is that okay???

      This is just my opinion, but if you're worried about any residual alcohol, I don't think you have anything to worry about. Alcohol is a very volatile liquid and will simply evaporate after a while. I think you can put it in the fridge so that you're sure that it will evaporate completely. Again, just my opinion. :)

      I don't enjoy the way she sprays the powder and lipsticks with alcohol... I am a professional makeup artist, and went to school to receive my certificate, and we were taught to just wipe the top layer really good off of any powder products with a clean tissue, as well as to do the same with lipstick. spraying it with alcohol won't hurt it, but it is a really unnecessary step.

    • @spicy_fiona
      @spicy_fiona 10 лет назад

      Anna Lucky thank you! your opinion really helps me!!! I've always just wiped my makeup products with a tissue! glad its what professional makeup artists do as well! *relieved*

    In addition to the over 90% pure rubbing alcohol, you can also put some items in the freezer for 48 hours. I do this with open mascara, eyeliners and lipsticks. I haven't tried it with liquid foundation but the freezer kills bacteria. I'm not a makeup artist, I just do it for myself to prevent eye infections or to be safe if I purchase unsealed items online.

    • @paperskater
      @paperskater 7 лет назад

      Just a heads up - 70% alcohol works better than the stronger concentrations when it comes to killing germs! Essentially, the water helps the alcohol get through the cell wall better, and higher concentrations of alcohol actually can shock the germs into forming protective spores around themselves.

  • @LuluScarn

    • @LuluScarn
      @LuluScarn 10 лет назад

      Adoreu What do you mean by regular alcohol? You should only use surgical spirit as Sinead explained in the video which is usually a concentration of around 70% or else 99% isopropyl alcohol like I use.

    • @adoreu7790
      @adoreu7790 10 лет назад

      Yes, I was talking about the 99% isopropyl alcohol that you use. I've never heard of the one she mentioned.

    • @LuluScarn
      @LuluScarn 10 лет назад

      The one she used is actually much more common :) It can be easily found in any drugstore :) .. and Yes, it can definitely be done with 99% isopropyl alcohol. In fact, the higher the percentage the faster it will evaporate making it much less likely to damage products :)
