I wash my makeup brushes RELIGIOUSLY.
I once had an eye infection and my eye swelled shut..... 5 days before I was to be married! (I picked up a bacterial infection and for whatever reason it effected my eye first. I got antibiotics and eye drops and it cleared up in time for the wedding!)
That chaos made me REALLY CRAZY CAREFUL about my eyes and how to keep them healthy.

I wash my natural hair expensive brushes every other time or even every time. I know they might not last as long but I can't deal with them not being "clean" or the pigments mixing either. They say to wash them once a month. I cannot NOT wash my brushes either 😂 I also use conditioner after cleansing and it does help keep them soft tho

Makeup brushes are an investment. If we look after them, they will last for years. I have expensive brushes so I clean all brushes I've used every week. I've got a lot of brushes so I don't need to keep using a dirty brush. I love using Dr Bronner's pure soap liquid. It's gentle and I've been using it for a long time now.

Fun lil hack to hang your brushes: use a hair tie and loop it around the brush and attach it to a bar or handle or towel rack etc. loop it once around the brush, pull the hair tie behind the horizontal bar of choice, then loop it back again onto the brush. It’ll hold it upside down perfectly so the glue doesn’t get messed up and it dries properly.

During lockdown in 2020, I threw out all my brushes and gradually started to buy new ones. I began to watch Alicia Archer (KinkySweat) and that was the beginning of the end. She has the BEST brush reviews and tutorials. I started to learn about, appreciate, and buy Fude brushes and you’d better believe I learned how to clean them. Since I have several of each kind now as well as several sets- ( Sonya G., Wayne Goss, and Sigma, including your brush set ( I LOVE the 4DHD precision). I can go a week and not clean them. Every weekend I take the group of used ones and do my little cleaning ritual and actually enjoy it. ( mind you, I’m retired) I let them hang in the holder for at least 48 hours. Thanks for the sink hint.I was using a shallow bowl and changed the water 2-3 times. Your idea is easier.

I keep telling her it's going to ruin the brushes and now she's actually seeing the bristles and tops falling off and the wooden handles splitting, but still won't stop because she thinks this is how you're supposed to clean them. There is only one thing I could bring up... Look into what your brush cleansers are. This isn't a problem for everyone. It was for me. If your skin is very sensitive to certain ingredients, you may not do well with your brush shampoo. I share a small bit of my face cleanser since I'm acne prone and allergic to most common ingredients in skincare and soap. Aloe, coconut, and rose are the bane of my existence so that means my brushes take a little swish in my own face cleanser or baby shampoo.
My synthetic brushes tend to look "fried" after about three years of use. My secret is discount conditioner or a hair mask. I leave it in like you would a hair treatment and rinse so about three to fifteen minutes. That's it. My oldest brush is from when I was eighteen years old. I'm thirty now. It's well loved and very pampered.

Hi, Robert! Something I've done to help my brushes dry faster is I just head to my shower with the clean brush right after "squeezing" extra water from rinsing it and hold it tight, make a few firm strokes downward and let the centrifugal force push the water out. Nothing too intense, no crazy shaking. It will remove so much water! We have cold, humid winters and dense brushes can take a few days to dry naturally here, so I tried this method and it helped! So far, none of my brushes have needed replacement and I've done it for a few years! Hope you won't have to use the radiator as much anymore 💜

I don't remember where I heard it, but I used Dawn and extra virgin olive oil mixed in warm water. I dip the brushes in the mixture, then use the cleaning pad to clean them then rinse them with water, and let them sit on the corner of the sink to dry them.

Thanks for the info. Question for you. I normally use the IT Ulta Bath Purifying Make Up Brush Cleanser. I spray on the brush and use a tissue to remove the make up on it (as if I were applying it on my face) I think I was told to do it this way by the make up lady at Ulta. I like that you don’t have to let the brushes “dry” necessarily and I can do it after every use. But now I’m not sure if this is enough?

I do exactly the same procedure, minus the scrubby mat. Now I need one of those! So convenient and effective looking. 👍🏼

Anyone in Florida, if you have a dollar tree near you, they sell the brush cleaning mats there. They are a bit smaller, but it works and only $1!

I’m definitely investing in those scrub mats. I used to do this method I learned from another tutorial where you submerge them in hot water, distilled white vinegar, & dish soap. Over time, the hairs were coming out & I thought because they were cheap. Then I read the comments of that vid. 😬
I bought one those swirl machines too but returning it because they couldn't even fit the ends of my brushes. The ends on some of them are mermaid fins, others are Sailor Moon wands. 😅

I like the brush spinner because they dry faster. I’ve never had it ruin a brush and I only use it on brushes I need dry asap.

I love to use Argan oil on my natural hair brushes. It keeps them soft and doesn’t make them all weird and gross. I think a lot of brush cleaning sprays have a high percentage of alcohol in it and they can RUIN your good bougie brushes. If you’re only using cheap synthetic brushes then it doesn’t matter. But if I am using sable hair, I’m not washing it like a Sally’s Beauty Supply pony tail.

    Robert is an expert.
What I use is a bra/sock bag for the washing machine which has a stiff bumper guard..... or Shoes Wash Bags with Bumper Protectors, and throw them in the washer. The bumper guard will keep them from any physical damage. DO NOT DRY THEM IN A DRYER; let them air dry.

I was guilty of not cleaning my brushes when I was young which did terrible things to my skin. I regularly make sure they are clean now. I've never thought of using shampoo, thanks for the tip Mr. Robert

Thank you so much for doing this video. As weird as it may sound, cleaning brushes is a part of makeup I have always struggled with. 1) because I hate it and it’s super annoying 2) because I’ve frayed or damaged so many of them on accident. Seeing you describe this and break it down is so helpful in taking care of my tools

I have one of those StylPro brush cleaner, I will change my liquid after cleaning my foundation brushes, I love mine they clean and dry so well, I have washed them under the tap with shampoo etc, but take too long in winter or cooler houses to dry.

What a wonderfully helpful video!!! Thanks!!!! One question: for a fast clean can I rub the brushes (mainly eyeshadow ones) in make up wipes? And what about the fast drying spray cleaner... is it any good for cleaning between deep cleanses?
    Thanks
