i think its so nice to see someone who talks about about beauty just casually say "i didn't feel like putting on makeup" that's really powerful, love it!
As MUA's, we have a ton of makeup. I am retired now, but still have brushes and makeup galore. My squirrel-hair and natural brushes are so important to me. I will never be able to get them again, so I really need to take good care of them. One person uses Micellar water, which sounds like a good idea. Anyway, I love your videos. Keep it up!
Hi Elle, I spent 2 days reorganizing and decluttering my makeup and skincare stuff. Now I think I’ll spend the weekend cleaning it all! Thanks for this video, hope you’re well during this unfortunate situation!
You are exactly what clients are looking for. Being treated with clean, sanitized and even sterilized a bit means everything. Too many people in the beauty field do not commit to practicing proper sanitation and/or sterilization procedures.
Thanks for this vid. I learned so many things here. My mother never cared for makeup, and I really did not care at all until I got 41, so I am teaching myself now in my forties. I hope you and your family are doing good :-)
This was EXACTLY what I wanted to learn! How exciting. The oil with the dish soap, dating your products & cleaning the brush handles. All things I can now put in to practice. Thank you so much sweetie! Stay safe, stay healthy. Xxoo's.... PS-your hair looks adorbs🙂
Great video! So timely, too. Been doing this for years (retired cosmetologist), but everyone doesn't know this, and everyone needs to be reminded! Lots of great tips, too. There's always something new. Thanks. ⚘
Hey! Thanks so much for this video - super helpful and informative. I really appreciate it! I did want to let you know that using OCD as an adjective, and synonym for being cleanly, can be hurtful to folks with OCD, like myself. OCD is a really complex and challenging mental illness that is so much more than just wanting things to be clean. Totally not trying to call you out, but rather call you in and share some knowledge just like you did with us today! Hope this helps. Take care and thanks again for the tips!
My dear friend who has also been my makeup artist for almost 20 years, he does freelance now but worked for MAC for years as well as being a trainer at cosmetology schools has always told me not to invest in makeup brush cleaners. They are too drying and over time can ruin your brushs. He tells me to use conditioner-just whatever conditioner I would use on my hair and that helps lift the makeup but also conditions and then of course to gently make sure the bristles are in place and lay flat to dry. This is a super similar idea and I love it and will be trying it. Thank you!
Love love love this!!! As a germophobe myself, I totally appreciate this! Always wondered how to sanitize the actual makeup in a palate. Plan on organizing and decluttering my collection, and am definitely going to use these tips! Thanks girl!!!
I was always worried about drying out my brushes when cleaning them. Problem solved with the addition of oil to the soap! I want to thank you. I am in my 60s and had given up on makup. But with your help, and a few other u-tubers, I have begun to enjoy makup again. That Cosrx snail mucin is the best! Keep up the good work!
Before I even finished this video I went to go wash the brushes I have been using lately... BLOWN away. Nothing has washed them as well as this technique! I ended up washing all of my brushes! Old ones that I could never get makeup residue off of. All I can say is thank you thank you!
Great video! I have been using this brush cleaning technique ever since I first saw this video and you are right, it works way better than traditional brush cleaners!! Thank you!
Thanks for this video girly. Just a quick fyi. You always want to disinfect with 71% alchohol. Alcohol has the longest contact time needed out of any disinfectant. Bleach is 60 seconds. Pine sol is 50 alcohol is 100 inorder to disinfect yet it has the quickest absorption rate so it absorbs before its gona disinfect anything. So the higher the % the quicker it absorbs so u want 71% so it can stay in contact long enough without absorbing before doing so. In the hospital we've learned to always use 71% and thats what we use. we leave it wet on the surface for 100 seconds so it will disinfect. Absorbing before that wont be effective. Please note this in comments so people know to use 71 and not 90 thanks girly. you look amazing. Please dont apologize for how u look. That makes me so sad cuz your beautiful and dont need makeup. Silly girl. Love u elle!!
Thank you for the tips on alcohol on powder products - I would have thought it would ruin them. I use Zote soap for cleaning my brushes, but I like the oil and dish soap method. Thank you.
OMG these tips are AMAZING! Using ingredients such as oil and alcohol makes so much sense! Such a timely video now that we may have a little more time to clean our makeup. So important to clean and disinfect especially in light of our current health crisis. Thank you!
Thank you so much. I dropped my entire Ingot eyeshadow pallet. If you are unfamiliar with them, you buy each eyeshadow individually and create your own pallet. So I dropped it and bam. Eyeshadows popped out everywhere onto my bathroom floor. It was not my greatest moment emotionally. But now I can sanitize them. Because it's 20 colors I'd have to rebuy.
Hey it me again. Just wanted to say I just recently found you and I am going through and listening to all your videos. I’m a ICU. Nurse, 62 years old and off work due to a injury. So hard not being with my team to take care of our patients. Thank you for helping me learn
Thank you Elle for showing how to clean palettes properly! I’ve used marseille soap to clean my brushes, it think it has oil in it, and it seems to work great, but I’ll try your method too.
I guess if you are sharing your brushes with others this would be useful at the present time, but I suggest that you should not be allowing anyone to touch your brushes, and you should sanitise your hands before touching your brushes and/face.
Great video!! After an eye infection I'm looking to sanitize my makeup and I am a bit confused with what to use for spraying on brush handles and the eyeshadow. What exactly is the product I should be looking to get for that. Please help 😊
Thanks Elle for the great videos this week. Closet is all cleaned out and organized and now I have another “keep me busy” job. Hope you and your family are staying healthy!
This was great info! I really haven’t felt that the product you buy to wash your brushes in don’t really work very well but this makes perfect sense! The oil not only helps clean but I think also conditions the brushes. I had never thought about spraying my makeup with alcohol but that really does make sense . So 🙏 for the info.🥰
I always put the date on the product I’ve opened so I’ll know when it’s expired. How about eye shadow pallets, if we spray them should they be ok to use, with so many we have we can’t possibly use them up. Thank you.💕
So I washed all my brushes while watching your Vid. I have heard about using oil with soap, but never did it until now. Thanks for explaining why. Thank you so much & wishing you & your family well. 😀😀😀😀
Elle, ty so much for this video. My brushes are now clean for the next time I put on make-up. Since you recommend using this method one a week, do we think should also clean our brushes during the week and, if so, what method would you recommend? You're the BEST!!
Thanks Elle, great video idea. I have been doing makeup decluttering....looking for distractions for homebound stir crazyness! I will add in the alcohol cleansing while I am doing it. Great idea! I use Dawn dishwashing liquid and olive oil to cleanse my brushes.
I’ve used this method since watching this video the first time and it’s the cleanest, most conditioned my brushes have ever felt! Also, the easiest to get makeup out. Oh, aaaand it’s so affordable. The only thing I changed was using dawn antibacterial hand soap/dish soap because it’s all I had. Worked like a charm!
I never thought to clean the skincare bottles, brush handles or the inside of a pallet. Thank you for bringing that to my attention. I will be cleaning all of my beauty products this way from now on. I appreciate you sharing this with us. Hope you and your family are well.❤
So helpful and yet again so knowledgeable elle. Will be doing these for sure and have shared your video with some friends. Hope u and ur family r well xxxxxx
Best video on cleaning and disinfecting. No fluff at all! BTW, you look beautiful without makeup :) I have not touched my brushes in a few years. They are filthy and got dusty too. Should I disinfect them with isopropyl alcohol just in case?
What a very helpful video, Elle! I need to add some oil to my soap...and I need to clean the handles as you did! I have some 91% alcohol; I need to start using it in a spray bottle. Many, many thanks!
Thank you, Elle. This was extremely helpful. I know what's on my to do list tomorrow!☺ Ellen, I used all of your techniques and all my brushes and makeup are sanitized and look Great! I cleaned out, too while cleaning. Thank you.
Thank you so much Elle! This is such great info..as usual. Never knew that you could sanitize all these products like that! You always do such a wonderful job keeping the squad informed! 💖
Loved your tips. I do a pretty good job of keeping my brushes clean but I need to get a spray spray bottle of alcohol set up to sanitize my makeup, etc. We really can’t be too careful right now! Thanks a bunch. 😃
Thank u for this video...as iv told u before I just moved to Montana a yr ago..I'm a Colorado native ..all my family is out ther..😢😢😢..out here things aren't so bad yet thank god...well just wanted to say this video was sooo helpful...thank u sooo much...be safe n God bless

good! i started to be a brush cleaning freak since 3 years ago :)
You are exactly what clients are looking for. Being treated with clean, sanitized and even sterilized a bit means everything. Too many people in the beauty field do not commit to practicing proper sanitation and/or sterilization procedures.

Amazing method that actually works! Thank you for sharing 🥰
Thanks! It seems your method is the most complete!
Thank you Elle.. thank you for the great information.. incorporated into my Sunday routine..
Love love love this!!!

Genius idea right now!! Lol
One of the reasons I love this channel
wow thank you very much!! means a lot
Thanks for explaining the oil ❤ I have oily skin and was always to scared to add oil to wash before
I cannot think of a more timely and helpful video. Very helpful, thank you!
I recently started using the Castile soap and it works amazing actually. Gets the sponges and my brushes so clean
Very informative! I'll be working on this over the next few days. Thanks, Elle!
Good tips! Btw my eyebrows came out great thanks to your tutorial. Making a mark on top of your eyebrows as a guideline made all the difference.
Great video! I have been using this brush cleaning technique ever since I first saw this video and you are right, it works way better than traditional brush cleaners!! Thank you!
Wow I have never thought to clean the outside of my skin care products unless there was something visibly on it. Great tip!

This was incredibly helpful and life changing, thank you so much for always sharing your knowledge with us! 😊
so sweet thank you!
Well I learned several new things today!! Love the beachy waves. Be blessed.
I've always used dishsoap to clean my brushes. I've tried a couple brush cleaners that made them fall apart so ... I'm happy to learn using oil too!
This was great! I like how you just dipped your brushes and then washed them. Using oil makes total sense. 😊
Thank you for the tips on alcohol on powder products - I would have thought it would ruin them. I use Zote soap for cleaning my brushes, but I like the oil and dish soap method. Thank you.
This is so helpful Elle; thank you.

I literally went and did my brushes this way right after your video and it was so easy.
