    I use Dawn and my hand. Works for my artist's brushes, works for my paint brushes, works for my makeup brushes, works for duckies covered in crude oil. If it can get latex house paint out, it can handle some eyeshadow.

      @@leiladash I've seen videos where they mix Dawn and olive oil to strip the brushes of the gunk and oil, but condition them at the same time so your brushes don't lose their softness. I tried it this last time, but I felt like a few of my brushes had a tiny bit of oily film. It was a test, because I usually buy brush soap. Idk if I'll mix Dawn and oil again.

      I got a brush soap in my beautylish lucky bag the year before last so I'm using that right now, but when I run out I will go back to dawn. It works just as well and is less expensive. And there doesn't seem to be any difference in softness between the 2.

      Sarah Kay I use dawn to break down make up in the brushes if baby shampoo doesn’t do the job. I’ve used the Dove, Dr Bronner’s even oil cleansers or coconut oil do a great job gently breaking down tough make up for brushes and sponges. I’ve never bought a brush cleaner unless it was Elf’s quick cleaner that’s $3 for spot cleaning day to day or something (and I’m not even sure that does much, lol.)

      Flor Jazmin Juicyjas uses a pink bar soap found in the laundry section of Walmart that she swears by for brush cleaning. I have no idea what the ingredients are, but I just think a lot of the brush cleaners are gimmicks or more for convenience for make up artists to spot clean (the ones that dry immediately.)

    Hey jess! Thanks for doing this video! So I work at Sephora and use a lot of the same products that you use. The “brush cleaner” is technically used for dry cleaning your brushes. So for me as a make up artist I spray the brush cleaner on a paper towel if I’m switching colors and want to use the same brush. It is labeled at “quick drying because it doesn’t make your brush wet. So you spray some brush cleaner into a paper towel (or any cloth towel) and swirl your brush and it is literally brand new. Anything labeled as a brush bath or shampoo is to be combined with water! So they are two different products actually. The reason the one that smells so strong is because of the chemicals that makes it a no water brush bath! Typically an actually water brush bath will smell lovely! I am constantly using a lot of brushes, but one way I can extend the time of my brush washes is to use the dry wash after I use my brushes so that the powders and products do not pile on the brush and I don’t have to wash as often! Much love xoxoxox

      Just us Johnsons I try and wash my brushes every other week. But that because I work at Sephora and wear a lot of make up. I think every 3 weeks to a month is good to do the deep wash for most people

    @candicecrystal986 5 лет назад +129

    Noooo Jess you don't wet the brushes beforehand when you use the cinema secrets cleaner. You use WAY less product that way, and you really only need the smallest amount and it will clean them perfectly and they are available for use again almost immediately.

    I thought you suppose to use Cinema secrets for a quick cleaning of the brushes when they dry. The same idea as Elf cleanser. You dip/spray dry brush and wipe it on a paper towel or cloth. I use Kleenex though. It’s definitely not designed for a deep cleaning. I use it every day on my brushes after each makeup application and once in a while deep clean them wet with the brush shampoo

    • @OpportunisticOmnivore
      @OpportunisticOmnivore 5 лет назад +9

      I have used Cinema Secrets dry for a few months but had never noticed that it leaves a blue residue on brushes. I was cleaning some new brushes to use for the first time, they were synthetic with PURE WHITE bristles and they definitely had a lot of blue staining on the bristles after. I took a hard look at some of my other brushes with lighter bristles that I have washed many times with the CS cleanser and saw that they do have some blue staining up near the ferrules especially (I guess it wicked all the way up there and won’t come out?). I saw Jessica using the wet clean method with CS and am going to definitely try that today on some of the ones with the staining! Maybe it helps the solution come out of some brushes that are denser or just wicked up too much product towards the ferrule over time? Not sure but I figure it’s worth a shot to get some of them with the gross looking staining and residue clean!

    • @NicoleNeenan
      @NicoleNeenan 5 лет назад +12

      CN Beauty Addiction that’s happened to a couple of my brushes using the CS cleaner for sure! A few remained stained after a deep water & soap cleaning but most have lost the blue tinge. I’ve been putting the CS cleaner in a travel-sized spray bottle and spritzing my brushes rather than dipping them in a bowl and that’s helped me to not oversaturate the bristles with the solution.

    • @mks176
      @mks176 5 лет назад +6

      Nicole Neenan what a great idea, I've used the CS cleaner 3 or 4 times and I've used SO MUCH OF IT because my brushes soak it right up. Will definitely try a spray bottle next time thanks!!

    I used to use Dr. Bronners to wash my brushes, but it was definitely drying them out in a weird way. Now I use Mrs. Meyer’s Clean Day dish soap because it breaks down the oils and build up without being overly drying. My brushes come out soft and fluffy and the denser ones still have the right texture for their uses.

      Wow! I have been using Dr Bronners forever (just on my beauty blenders and RT sponges), and it never occurred to me that it might be drying them out. I always did wonder why other people’s sponges lasted longer than mine. Mine start to tear after about 5 washes, and I wash them every 3 days or so. I use Zote soap bar. It's cheap and you can find it at Walmart. I use a little egg shaped scrubber and sometimes scrubbing mat that you put in your sink. Then sometimes I'll put them in my hanging dry rack if I feel like pulling it out or just lay them flat on a towel ☺️ Seems to work well for me. As for my beauty blender, I run it under warm water and run it across my bar of soap and keep pressing and squeezing 👍🏻🤗 I would like to try that blender balm stuff 👍🏻

    This was super helpful! I've never used the Cinema Secrets on big brushes or with water. Going to try it tonight. Also, I have a mat that's like your glove and I spray it with bleach cleaner and then use a stiff brush (nail brush) to clean it. It then looks like new. 💕

    I've been using Eucalan no rinse delicates wash for my brushes, I always have it on-hand for hand washing wool and other delicates. It works just as well as the blender cleanser, but I'll have to compare with some of the bar soaps mentioned!

    I put an old spray top from a Sephora brush cleaner in my cinema secrets bottle and spray it on for a quick spot clean and wipe it on tissue or a microfiber cloth. I just splurged on the BB pro solid cleaner and it is amazing at deep cleaning brushes and sponges and leaves them very soft.

    1: you can also get all kinds of those silicone mats from places like TJ Maxx, Marshall’s, etc.
    2: I always lay mine out on a towel as well, but I roll it a few times on the long end so that the brushes are pointed downward at least a little vs. totally flat. Maybe it doesn’t matter but it makes me feel a little better lol.
    3: when I stay at hotels and they put out extra bars of soap I don’t use, I’ll keep them for brush cleaning!
    Very helpful video! Thank you, Jess! ❤️

    I use zote soap. It's amazing! It cleans so well!
    Also for drying my brushes, I take them and brush them in one direction on the texture really fast on my silicone mat and it helps get a lot of the water out of it so my brushes dry super fast

    Japonesque brush cleaner is my go to quick cleaner, and comes in citrus scent and one other scent. I purchased the large bottle from Ulta, and use a small spray bottle for spraying directly onto brushes, then swirl around on paper towels until all pigment is removed(may need to repeat if it is stubborn pigment). Deep cleaning with baby shampoo/wash works nice, but the Shae Moisture Peace Rose bar soap is a great cleansing soap and rinses easily.

    Hi Jessica, its great to see how everyone cleans their brushes, allows you to pick up new tips you might not know :-) I've been cleaning my brushes with African black soap ( tip from Stephanie Nicole ) it works great and a bar lasts a long long time. When they are completely rinsed I dip the bristles in aloe Vera gel and let them dry ( tip from tarababyz) once dry you just crack (swirl the bristles on your hand a few times) the dried gel and your brushes are nicely conditioned so especially natural hair brushes don't get dried out :-) these are the two best tips I had found on you tube, and I truly trust Tara and stephanie. :-)

    If you take a bar of soap and really do washboard style cleaning of the sponge on the side with the scoop part of the bar if you know what i mean and get every side of the sponge it works like magic in case anyone is reading the comments

    I use baby shampoo also and find it does a good job. I've also in a pinch used the cerave hydrating cream cleanser that you like and it worked too. I definitely wanna get one of those matts or gloves though because with just my hands it takes FOREVER and depending on how dirty the brush is makes it almost impossible to get out.

    For the eyelash curler I frequently wipe mine down with a cotton pad that has micellar water and it does a great job! Usually I just use the same cotton pad I used on my face (in the morning there’s usually not much makeup residue because I’ve already washed my face)

    Ivory soap is amazing. I learned it as a trick in oil painting class where the brushes were all very delicate. I tried it on my makeup brushes and have never looked back. It deep cleans them and leaves them soft and fluffy.
