Is League of Legends Any Good in 2022?

  • I've been playing League of Legends for a while now and some things about the game's current trajectory have started to worry me. It's not that the game is dying, or that the community is any more toxic today than it was before, or that I'm openly quitting League of Legends. It's more to do with how Riot has been handling champion releases over the last few years and how it's set a dangerous precedent for the future.

    Guess we can also consider this video a sequel.
    What, did you expect to find that massive wall of text talking about the video's topic like every other video does at the end here? Nah. I'm not interested in playing that game.

    I disagree with the very first argument. I would agree with it if riot focused on actual casual game modes instead of just ranked.
    I really wish we got more fun/goofy modes that would stay with us, and others that rotate sometimes.

    • @SojournerKai
      @SojournerKai  Год назад +2

      Nexus Blitz is sorely missed!
      Really the first argument that I'm making also has to do with how basically everywhere you look on Twitch and RUclips, the tippity top content has to exclusively do with rank and in turn that leads to a rather large vocal majority in my most viewed video talking about "how I can't have an opinion because I'm low rank". Therefore, the statements I make are admittedly a little jaded _but_ not completely without merit. There are some exceptions to the rule, like Skooch building his own explosive brand of content off of a far more casual approach or Necrit delving deep into the lore side of things, but otherwise it's all "Iron to Challenger!" and high elo stream highlights everywhere you look, at least in terms of what reigns king.
      I could honestly go on and on about all of the great small-to-miniscule channels that have some real talent (Fizzlenuke, Hypersugar, Silvxs, I am Bason, etc.) that isn't centred around a similar mantra and are genuinely creative people. Regardless of whether casual modes are released or not though, the environment that we've cultivated in the realm of content creation along with the systematic removal of casual modes combined with the sheer amount of cash that goes into the pro scene, the only thing that a lot of people _are_ often left to care about is what rank you are.
      It sucks and I wish that there was a way to promote casual play more, I just haven't figured it out yet.

    • @cckmyuxun3689

      @@SojournerKai I personally feel that the reason casual play is not as common is just due to the path that riot is taking the game. The game has just gotten harder and harder every season. You have to commit so much of your time to the game literally just to be able to play at an iron level, the learning curve is steep. It definitely turns off a lot of casuals because since everyone is so tryhard, if you don’t commit all your time and effort into keeping up with patches, you’re gonna fall behind really quickly. Riot is definitely pushing league towards competitive and I can understand why. League’s esports scene is huge. That shit brings them so much attention. But it’s unfortunate that they don’t really cater to their casual player base at all. They refuse to simplify the game, they don’t add new game modes or bring back old ones. It’s always urf, one for all and ultimate spellbook. With such few game modes it gets stale really quick. I wish they would just bring back a few old game modes and slow down the patches a little bit.
      Unfortunately riot doesn’t have much of a reason to do that tho, since they’ve shown that rotating game modes don’t really bring in that many players, which really sucks. I would love to experience the odyssey onslaught game mode.

    I think Akshan embodies the problem with modern champions perfectly, especially with his lore which imo have been also getting progressively weaker, he's not even a champion he's just the flesh puppet of the absolver and that thing's mere existance contradicts so much about the established canon that it'd be impossible to explain all of it in a youtube comment.

    I agree with I think every point.. except playing/starting to play this game now.. Its very tough cause you have to learn so many things which takes almost months to just understand the basic concepts + champs.. how to play against what.. and even know what exactly is what..
    New players are just getting abused in their game every game.. I talked with people who started to play and alot of them were scared to play jungle because they dont know how this role exactly work and they would get shit on by their team for not playing the role appropiate..
    So idk.. I think like 80% of the community is getting somewhat influnced by the teamchat or participating with the flames there are spreading with blaming each other..
    Everygame I have to type /muteall in chat so I dont get tilted..
    So yea.. mute everyone and get better at the game and enjoy it somehow.. or just dont play it, because u get addicted and depressed after a while

      Aw man, I'm so far into the game now that I do genuinely forget about the learning CLIFF that exists in this game. Not only do you have to know what four abilities _your own_ champion possesses, but you also have to know the abilities of enemy champions so that you know what to look out for. You have to know how to move and, God forbid, last hit minions, or manage your resources effectively so that you don't get shoved out of lane. Totally agree with you, League is not friendly in the slightest to new players.

    I think quitting a game because you have to interact with people you find unappealing or toxic is perfectly fair. It's exhausting and it's a multiplayer game. Even if you can't see chat, you'll still get people who grief you or go AFK and so on, and repeat FF vote while farming sidelanes and avoiding objectives. It makes the experience not fun eventually. That said, League is not any more toxic than most online games, it just has a reputation for it. The lore is by far the most enjoyable part of the game so I'd start there if I wanted to get into League.

    • @SojournerKai
      @SojournerKai  Год назад

      Yeah that's a good point! Not wanting to queue because of the possibility of having someone run it down or having to deal with children makes sense. However, I am subscribed to the idea that if the game is enjoyable enough to you, then those things should be a non-factor in your decision to play anyway. The issue therefore doesn't arise from toxic people directly, the issue arises from how the game itself is designed in a way that it can lead to exhausting interactions amidst repetitive gameplay that doesn't feel as rewarding as it used to. In other words, growing tired of the game itself rather than the community.

    It’s 1:20 am so I not going to finish the video but I agree and disagree with you. Riots doing an amazing job taking care of 90% of its players with new content and expanding their reach into different genres. However I think you’re wrong about leaks. Nothing is less entertaining then being pummeled by a new champion because you don’t know what they do. That’s the equivalent the wizard did it, ontop of that “leaks” are intentional by riot they are trying to make hype around the characters by not giving everything at once I think every major moba and game does this now.
    Also being silver and talking about the stat of the game is not indicative of the whole game. I think you need to consult some higher ego players to get their views aswell

    Good video, I disagree with the thought that a "toxic community" is not a valid reason to not play a games. Playing with friends helps the experience, playing with shitlords does the inverse. Leagues community is consistently toxic and makes people not even want to try and find the diamonds in the rough.
    I can understand the argument that a toxic community does not make a game bad, but its more than acceptable to be a reason you don't play it.

    The game back then was slower paced by design, not as much mobility, true damage, % health damage existed, you could actually Solo Carry Games, there was no turret shut down gold, no tower platings, Xp was distributed differently, no 1000 Gold Shut down that is given to you by a nonsensical system, Rift Herald did not exist to push in turrets, Dragons gave Gold not buffs, so no random factor there either, ap supports did not have that much Gold on their hands supports were actually that, supports, supporting. Not Senna as a 2nd adc, or Pyke with a Darius ultimate that teleports him around, Ap Supports, if played, did not have enough money to stack Ap Items only, they had to buy wards and Items to support their team. The annoying plants did not exist and champions were not designed so that some korean shoutcaster can scream his lungs out 5 Minutes into the Game in bot lane, seriously Proplay being such a cashcow was one of the worst things that ever happened for the Games overall health. It was overall a way more fun game to play.
