$225 Huge Camera Haul: Early Canon DSLR + More

- I bought a 2 box lot of of film and digital cameras for $225 from an online auction. The camera that caught my eye was an early DSLR camera released by Canon in 2001 with an MSRP of $3,000! Spoiler-it's barely worth a fraction of that now! But it's a neat piece of history, and there's some other cool cameras and lenses discovered in this lot. Nikon, Fujifilm, Minolta, and a few other brands make appearances. I was fortunate that most of the gear in this untested lot was working, which is definitely normally not the case!

I adore these types of videos. I feel like I learn a bit of history with each old camera you talk about.
Thank you so much for the kind words! It really is incredible the sheer amount of cameras out there, and each one has it's own little history. With maybe 1 or 2 or 5 different owners that have taken really important sentimental pictures with them.
Well, the nice thing about many of the old DSLRs (and old cameras in general, not the newer mirrorless cameras) is that they would take just about any batteries (OEM obviously, and most third party batteries, without complaint). camera companies are starting to crack down on this though (such as Nikon and Canon) where it will detect a non-OEM battery and sometimes either not work or work at a reduced speed and/or with nagging.
You are absolutely right- It is maddening and IMO very similar to printer companies requiring manufacturer only ink/toner. Quite ridiculous.
Really like these videos, especially since I've been getting into selling camera gear on Ebay. I put sample photos in my sales listings since Im a photographer as well. Think people like that more than someone that just sells stuff claiming it works. I need to pick up some hauls like this!
Thanks @michaelbell75 Sample Photos are a GREAT idea! Plus, eBay has a video slot too, so if it's a higher end camera/camcorder, you can put in a quick video showing it working, which I've found can help conversion quite a bit.
Love these videos. So much fun to see the variety of cameras you come across.
Thanks a bunch! I just got another interesting box in yesterday and am going to go through it tomorrow, and hopefully have a video up by Friday. Cheers!
The pink toy camera, if you ever wanna tinker with it, you can mod the lens to make the focus adjustable. I did it with one I got just for fun. Also the 32GB SD card is actually 8 or 16, beyond that it corrupts the files lmao
Very cool, good to know!
love these types of videos! Subbed
Wow @ 13:22, Bam! Easy on those high end kit lenses dude! 😆
That was quite a haul! Very impressive how much you have sold! Wow! I am trying to figure out why I like watching your videos so much?! 🤔🙄😆👍📷
😊It was a bit hard! I also set it right next to the 🎤 microphone! Thanks for watchin’
I like the box cutter you are using.
It's a "Scotty Peeler", and I agree, love using them to open boxes! Your youtube channel is really neat BTW.
Love old cameras - it's nice to see them finding new homes. =)
People discard good technology in favor of newer stuff, and a lot gets lost along the way.I am glad you can make a few dollars ,showing people the value of these older cameras.A box of cameras you buy, looks like a junk drawer from my house, with old gems just needing a little love.
Yeah, I think that's a good way to look at it! A lot of these older generation cameras still have a lot of practical use, so I'm just trying to find 'em a new home!
Love your videos, and I'm always so impressed by your great depth of knowledge and swift expert appraisal. But... the way you slide these beautiful things around on that scratchy old tabletop!
Thanks! I will be more gentle with the cameras in the future!
Almost 400! Nice job 🎉🎉🎉
Thanks Charlie!
Love your videos bro , you got a new subscriber ❤
Thank you so much!
Ah yes! the Nikon D60. my first and most beloved camera! mine shot up to 147k! i then did have to sadly sell it since i was upgrading it, but great tiny camera! a great powerhorse for just 10mp. would DEF recommend!!
Oh wow, that's an incredibly high shutter count for the D60! That's awesome!
Fascinating! Keep them coming! I’ve noticed in your videos that when it comes to DSLR’s it’s nearly always Canon, it’s the same in my local second hand store, are people keeping hold of their Nikons, Sony’s etc? Also the D60 was my first DSLR 😊
Thanks! Great question, I definitely see more Canon than anything else, but I think it's just because of their sheer production volume. I would say in terms of what I see DSLR wise, it's #1 Canon #2 Nikon #3 Sony #4 Mix of Pentax/Olympus/Misc.
Got a video from this channel in my recommendations after getting a DSLR for the first time and this channel is great! Definitely expected a subscriber count in the 5 digit area seeing the production quality
Super kind of you, thanks! I am learning and trying to improve with each video. What DSLR model did you get?
@@pricklypearcamera A Canon 2000D with the 18-55mm kit lens!
What auction site do you purchase the cameras at? Thanks, Ken
I find your mystery box vids oddly soothing. Question: Do you ever look at the pics on the memory cards that arrive with those cameras? Perhaps some dark secrets or an undiscovered genius (a la Vivian Maier) might have left a masterpiece on one. 😂
Thanks for watching! In some older cameras, you have to delete the pics one by one instead of formatting entirely, so you have to go through individually. It feels like over half of the pictures are of either dogs or cats, 25% are of living rooms/backyards/etc, and the other 25% are trips/vacations. Some weird stuff too for sure, but thankfully it's in the minority!
Hey, You mentioned a polish for the black rubber stickiness. What product do you use?
I use Mother's Back to Black Trim and Plastic Restorer, it works quite well!
@@pricklypearcamera Thanks a bunch. Cheers!
the way you handle the cameras and lenses I would not ever buy from you hahaha
He is not anything better than the typical dealership... just rats!
i legit thought that you had about 600k-1.2mil Subs!
Absolute great content and quality
Incredibly kind of you, appreciate it!
@kopier212 i bet the channel will blow up to 100k soon.
These videos are just so amazing
He is overcharging a lot for gear in bad to at best mediocre shape, im wondering his "business model" is working at all with his high prices
I felt already bad at selling a 400D + Kit lens in perfect shape for 70€ and gave the buyer a 28-105 3.5-4.5 additionally (which is worth another 40-100€)
@@harrison00xXx he must know what he’s doing,bc he did it for years
@@notclifz And so?
Doesnt mean its ok to sell old crap for high prices
Which auction you got those from?
That dslr in the back with no lens or cap is stressing me out
Just curious, what site/app do you use to check shutter count? I had to do this once and ended up on a site where I paid $2 to have access to the results lol
I have personally used www.camerashuttercount.com/ with good results for a wide variety of cameras, but a lot of Canon's are a bit tougher, and I have used a paid site like you mention that was a couple bucks to find it. There is also a little sketchier site for some additional Sony models
@@pricklypearcamera Thank you! Yeah it was a Canon so it figures it was harder
Where can i buy such boxes with used camera equipment im kinda curious
I get these from a variety of suppliers- local auctions, garage sales, estate sales, online auctions, gov. liquidation, etc.
realy would like to see some bundles with fewer slrs and bridge cameras, and more of those little point and shoots from the early 00s - 10s for that millenium feel.
Thank you for this feedback! I have some incoming boxes that are exactly this!
Do you do retail? w/o ebay or other middleman?
Hi, I don't do any direct retail sales, but am on eBay under california545 store name!
I enjoy these videos. I would like to get into buying these bulk lots for selling and keeping some interesting cameras. Who knows of any good online sites?
Glad you like them! Lots of opportunities. My main sources are local auctions (lots of business/school liquidation), pawn shops, goodwill, eBay, facebook, and a few others.
Do you have a website to buy parts
Hey, I don't currently have a website, but do have an ebay store under california545, I have mostly working cameras and some cameras for parts that have appeared on videos there. Not much in terms of parts apart from some battery doors I think. Thanks!
@@pricklypearcamera yeah I was just curious I have a Sony DSC h10 I need a cord or a battery charger was curious if you have
I love your work, can I get a free camera please I'm in Nigeria and love photography but I can't afford one
