I love camera flipping. It's so fun to find cameras at yard sales, check if they're working, and selling them on. You get to try so many cameras and the profits goes towards a better camera for you!
Wow, it's amazing how people don't understand what's in their box and sell it for less than half the price... Good find you have! Very interesting sight into past digital times! : )
A fun video, always neat to see older digital cameras unboxed in this fashion. I actually found a pristine Sony DSC-H1 at a thrift store that came with a screw on tele lens for about $35 and bought it. For an old low mpixel camera, it has a great lens and takes darn good photos. I'm very pleased with it.
Wow, nice! The DSC-H1 was one of Sony's first AA powered longer zoom cameras. I agree with your assessment of pic quality too, the DSC-h1 and H2 that I've used quite a bit produce surprising good pictures, haven't tried with a tele lens though.
Thanks @sammoodyiphone It's fun, but you just need to be prepared for a good amount to potentially not work, but if you can spot a good camera or two in the pictures it can help with the odds!
Just for people who are curious; the SX530 does not shoot raw. Reason to not take it too seriously as an 'in between' :). Especially since there's plenty of point 'n shoots that do have raw (canon g9x for instance) and no DSLR's that don't.
14:01 Wow thanks for a throwback! Sony DSC H1 was my first ever digital camera! Watching this sure brought back some memories, especially the "beeps and bop" sounds of the menu )
Loved it! I have a small hand full of old cameras that are best described as in the half-started stage of repairs, plus one nice film camera that only needed a reset to work perfectly. I enjoy messing around with this stuff, with mixed success. One minor, picky, point. I reckon the 'x' after the zoom factor - 20x, 30x, 50x - is a multiplication sign so should be pronounced as, for example," 20 times" not "20 ex". Or do USAians read "2 x 3 = 6" as "2 ex 3 dash over dash 6?" 🙂 Despite that, I'll be watching more of your videos.
Hi! Thanks for watching! Cool the camera repair, I dabble in it as well, and am often not successful, haha! As for X- I guess I just use it as shorthand. When I was a camera buyer and working directly with Canon, Nikon, Panasonic, etc, all of the industry people also used "X" instead of "times", so just got used to it I suppose.
Great video, subscribed! I have been doing this model by model, looks like getting a lot may be the way to go. I have actually found some keepers doing this though. Like the Canon G2 and A85. Selling most the others I have bought. Will have to watch more of your videos, great insight. Thanks
Thanks for the note, appreciate it! I've definitely had some bad lots and some good lots, it just took a lot of purchases to get me to where I can generally get pretty good value out of my purchases. G2 is a great camera, I've shot with it a fair amount! Happy shooting
some lovely cameras there i got lucky and picked up my self a boxed as new Nikon coolpix p500 and for the age of the camera its still great and for a price of £50 gbp so around $62 usd how can i say no to a deal like that
As it used to be called, 'a pig in a poke', old English saying meaning you could not see the pig in the box for sale but you could poke it through a hole with a stick to make sure it was alive! In your case, you can't even do that. But, you made out pretty well. Haha, Kodak Easy Share, my first 4-meg digital camera 20 yrs ago!
I haven't heard that saying before- that's really neat! Yeah, this was a decent one, and nice on the Kodak! My first digital camera was an old 3 or 4MP Olympus camera, loved that thing!
@@pricklypearcamera And the Easy Share camera came with 'Easy Share software editing'. I think you could do about 5 things with it. But to me, coming from film, it and the camera were the best things since tubeless amps. Oh, wait. Tubed amps are back in again along with vinyl!
Is it easy to find batteries for those old camera? Obviously the double AA and AAA batteries are easy to find but I wonder about those custom batteries.
Hi- They are easy to find through eBay and Amazon, but depending upon the battery can be kinda pricey if you buy in a single or 2 pack. Because I do quite a bit of volume, I buy the SLR batteries in 20-50 packs which can save on per unit cost by 60%.
I've sold about half of the items in the video so far, but when all is said and done, should be around $350 or so in profit, definitely a better box than normal.
I’m so curious as to who is buying all these bridge cameras. I know compact point and shoots are trendy at the moment for their retro aesthetic and being that small I can see how but I don’t know what the appeal of a bridge camera these days even is
I guess I should have been more clear- yes, I have a separate receptacle for all battery related waste, and we've got drop of stations roughly every few months were I live where you can drop off this type of stuff.
There's a lot of places- local auctions often have the best deals and many aren't online so the deals and potential profit can be much higher as there are less eyeballs on them. eBay has some options occasionally, facebook marketplace (not auctions but sometimes quantity or collections), garage sales, estate sales, church sales, etc etc.
@TheCheerupnow you can filter to the camera category and scroll through the listings and additionally filter to "used", "parts/not working". You can also filter to wherever your local market is, I choose the US. Generally I don't use search terms, as it limits the results
Interesting that you wipe and reformat the internal memory. I get why you do it, but if the previous owner had purchased and installed any apps, not only does reformatting/resetting the internal memory erase those apps but in many cases those apps are no longer available for purchase or installation. I know my Sony DSLRs and Mirrorless cameras supporting the old Sony PlayMemories apps each have about $50 worth of apps installed, and after September 2023 those apps will no longer be available.
I have thought about this, but was concerned it may add too much time to the videos, but maybe I'll try to take pictures with one, and include some samples?
Hi, I should have been more clear, but I have several receptacles under the desk, and one is for batteries, and they are disposed of separately locally in specifically battery disposal.
I suspect the seller knew exactly what they were selling. Not sure if it was a trick of the light, but some of the lenses seem to have fungus within the elements. They can be cleaned, but it means a lot of dismantling of complex lens mechanisms. Selling cameras and lenses with fungus is very hard. People don't want the bother.

So true! It's a great way to "finance" keeping some cool cameras for yourself!
"selling them on"? Who buys cameras way worse than a 2020 smartphone? Do these people really exist?
Evan, thanks for sharing. Sounds like a nice avenue for some extra income. How long have you been flipping for? Thanks.

Got to be careful on eBay with that “untested” as a lot of times that’s a sellers cop out for I tested it and it’s broken as heck
Unfortunately, this is sometimes true. Honesty is a virtue!
the digicams are making a comeback meaning the kodak and other low megapixel cameras

Looking through the optical viewfinder will not show dust on the sensor.
I was talking about black spots visible thru viewfinder that are visible as you zoom out which is often caused by dust in the sensor.
Looking through the optical viewfinfer does not and can not give any insight whatsoever regarding the state of the sensor.@@pricklypearcamera
